  • Continuing our annual tradition of watching the Nobel Prize announcement and making a video in the immediate aftermath. This year's prize was awarded jointly to Robert Lefkowitz and Brian Kobilka "for studies of G-protein-coupled receptors".
Our video features Professor Martyn Poliakoff and special guest Barrie Kellam from the University of Nottingham School of Chemistry.

My god. Here we are, perhaps three hours after the announcement, we have not only a VERY high quality video explaining just what the prize was for (including research by the professor to see just what they're on about), explaining hugely complex yet important concepts in terms that even I can understand.
And all I can offer in thanks is a punch of a 'like' button. Somehow that feels so ... so insignificant, considering the effort expended and the material presented.
    Thank you. Again.

This theory is based on just one equation (E=ˠ M˳C² )∞ the Lorentz contraction of space and time is between the energy and mass. The greater the energy the greater the contraction of space and the slower time will run. Mass will increase relative to this and each ref-frame can be seen as a vortex in space formed by the rate that time flows. The brackets represent the boundary condition of the ref-frame formed by the energy and the infinity symbol represents an infinite number of ref-frames.

It's rather effective as is, the opening of these channels usually allows for changes in polarity to produce complex electro-chemical changes from the binding of a single ligand.

Brady, the text you put on screen when the professor was on the phone got me thinking, what are the odds that the professor's work/ his field of research actually did win, not necessarily a Nobel prize, but any sort of recognition for it's merit?

  • @Veriloquy

The endocrine system and nervous system use many of the same compounds in different ways. Something that acts as a neurotransmitter within the CNS can act as a hormone elsewhere in the body. Epinephrine is an excellent example of this. It IS a hormone. That doesn't prevent it from acting as a neurotransmitter. The body is versatile like that. :)
Nomenclature confuses pretty much anyone who studies chemistry or medicine, and especially those of us who study both. No need for name calling.

If I were a scientist like this, I would sit eagerly waiting for the names to be announced and say 'DAMN!' whenever it wasn't my name (which would be every time) and then pretend to be really angry for about 5 minutes. Even though I already knew it wasn't going to be me. Every time. I would want everyone in the hall to hear the 'DAMN!' and say 'woah, wut? oh yeah, him' If you're going to be an old scientist, you have to milk it!

    Interesting video!
This is an invitation to see an artist theory on the physics of light and time!
This theory is based on just two postulates
    1. Is that the quantum wave particle function Ψ or probability function represents the forward passage of time itself
    2. Is that Heisenberg’s Uncertainty Principle ∆×∆p×≥h/4π that is formed by the w-function is the same uncertainty we have with any future event within our own ref-frame that we can interact with turning the possible into the actual!

It's a shame the other nobel prizes don't fit into the Brady-categories so they could be talked about as well, closest I could think of would be numberphile for economic sciences, maybe words of the world for literature? Peace prize is an interesting phenomenon in and of itself, I'd suggest philosophy file.
