Thank you! It's been kind of nice looking at the snow since we rarely saw it in Texas. It's already melting, so should be back to riding next weekend I hope.
Fun tip: you can use the front derailleur mount to attach an auto lock remote dart system and pair it with a sram axs dropper lever to shoot tasty trail critters whilst riding it's called CRTR KLR if you got this far let me know if I should start a Kickstarter for this
Nice bike Kyle... I was close to buying this last year (2021 colorway) but as you mentioned in the comments, for more rowdier rides, spend a bit extra which I did with the Merida Big Trail 500 (Not available in USA which is a shame as it's an awesome bike - some agreement with Specialized - Merida is the Majority shareholder). Polygon manufactures the Marin frames also (Indonesia), having just procured the Marin DSX1 (your review pushed me over the line) - they are very well built and recommend them.
Very cool! I like the looks of the Big Trail bikes. Wish I could try one out. That's rad you got a DSX 1. I still got mine, and it's still one of my favorite bikes I have.
The 2021 Xtrada 7 is still available in my size for $970 w/shipping. Is that a no-brainer first mountain bike? Or would something like the Canyon Stoic 2 for $1300 w/ shipping(possible available in March) be worth the extra money?
Tough choice Steve! If your goal is to do jumps, drops, and more gnarly riding then the Stoic is gonna offer better geometry for more "aggressive" riding. The Xtrada will be a lighter weight more pedal efficient type bike. The Stoic also has a 30.9mm seat tube diameter, so you could run any length dropper you'd like on it, and the stoic also has the boost thru axle up front whereas the Polygon doesn't. I think both bikes are solid first choices, but they are also designed with different intentions.
The black marks on the frame are from those black packing foam blocks with the velcro straps. My 2021 model came with Racing Ray tubeless ready tires out of the box (lucky for me as that wasnt spec) Reminder to anyone assembling a boxed bike, especially a 12 speed you need a hanger alignment tool to check the hanger alignment, mine was way off and impossible to index the gears. 12 speed has little margin for misalignment. Dont understand them using a 27.2 mm seat post as there is only one dropper that fits this. Looks like they upgraded out of the box pedals Otherwise excellent bike for what it is.
Looks like the new place has lots of room for Activities! I'd lay money that the smaller frame sizes all use the same length seat post. Makes sense to have just one seat post length for sku reasons. You just have to take a hacksaw to it if you need to get it lower.
Look at that big wall ! I guess you made the move. Congratulations. Hope your doing ok. I'm not thrilled about the colors. Good review. Gonna do a ride with it?
Thanks Harry! I'm all moved in and happy to be here. Weather has been less than stellar since I arrived, but did a paved ride on this bike. It felt pretty good. A riding review will be in order eventually!
This bike is for sale for $850 atm. Would you recommend this bike for a beginner? I don't plan on upgrading anything unless it breaks over time. Maybe a dropper if the bikes served me well.
Hey Kyle, I'm at 6'4 240lbs. Gonna be doing neighborhood rides, some trail and dirt trails also. Was looking at the specialized rockhopper 29er. What's your thoughts?
What ? 1100 dollar? What country is it ? Here in my town just USD 720 if you buy in local store you will get free helmet and 2 night lamps (front and rear)
Hey Kyle, finally able to start looking for a budget beginner mountain bike and have been looking into the xtrada7 or giant talon 1 for a few extra bucks. Not really sure what to do. My local shop doesn't have any giant small frames, so I have to get it shipped anyways, but at least the shop is giving me free life time adjustments. I'm looking out torn specially because on bikesonline they have the 2021 xtrada7 on sale and I like those colors better than the 2022. What do you recommend?
Not my favorite-looking bike but can't beat the price performance. But like most people that review the bike one of the dislikes is the 27.2 seatpost which is just a bummer
I could see the paint being off putting to a lot of riders. I personally love it haha. The seatpost is kind of a let down, but since it's technically an XC bike I can let it slide a little. Probably not gonna be sending this bike hard, so just need it to go down enough to do some average downhill.
Hey Kyle, some questions. I’m looking for a MTB that will mostly be used for commuting, but we do have some nice trails in my state (Utah). I’ve been looking at Xtrada 7, Marlin 7, or maybe a beefier Roscoe. The 2022 Roscoe is considerably more expensive but has some features I really like such as a dropper. My local bike shop has the Marlin 7 in stock in my size. It’s a tad cheaper at $1029 than the $1100 Xtrada. Is the Xtrada worth the extra money? Is it easier to add a dropper to the Marlin than Xtrada? Or should I just pony up for a Roscoe 7 whenever they become available?
Hi Lee! I would strongly recommend to avoid the Marlin. In terms of modern mountain bike features the Marlin is pretty outdated when compared to the competition. It doesn't use axles for the wheels (has open dropouts), uses a coil fork (not all that bad, but lacks adjustability of an air fork), and has outdated geometry that wouldn't feel great on trails. I'd say the Xtrada falls nicely between the Marlin and Roscoe 7 in terms of geometry. Xtrada will probably be the better choice for commuting whereas a more aggressive bike like the Roscoe will perform a bit better on trail. I'd also take a look at the Giant Fathom as it's kind of between the Xtrada and Roscoe in terms of pricing and geometry. I have heard about some issues with the fork on the Fathom, so make sure you research that before committing to it. Just want to be upfront with that info! Xtrada 7 offers a lot for the price and I've been enjoying it quite a bit! If you add a dropper to it, you're total investment is about $1,300 which ain't too bad. I hope this helps you out some!
Hey! I could really use some help. I plan on purchasing the 2022 Polygon Xtrada 7. I am 6'1.5" tall. My R.A.D. is 81.28cm and my reach range is 459.84 / 469.22 / 478.60. I know you cant say definitively go with a L or XL but if you were me. Based of the geo/sizing of the 2022 Polygon xtrada 7 what way would you lean? I sat on a XL trek marlin 5 and it felt too big. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Hello! I'm 6' tall and I can just flat foot stand over the top tube on this bike. My inseam is about 32", so I'm assuming you would fit just fine on an XL of the Xtrada. I compared the geometry chart of the Xtrada to the Marlin, and the seat tube is 20mm shorter on the Xtrada, and the effective top tube is 19mm shorter on the Xtrada. Standover height is 18mm lower on the Xtrada. I think the XL Xtrada will give you a decent amount of breathing room without being too large. If you want a more nimble/playful feel then you may be able to size down to the large although I think the reach on the Xtrada is rather short in each size. The XL will be a more pedal efficient and fast bike, but maybe not as stellar if you're looking to learn jumps and that kind of stuff. Hope that info is helpful!
I have one of these and have been hitting plenty of medium size jumps, So far holding up well. If i had the cash and they where available i would have got the stoic 3 instead. but for an extra $400 AUD i would expect a better bike. Oh and my god are the stock plastic pedals slippery.
You are correct! I like my reach figure to be between 470 and 480mm. This is the first XL bike I've ever gotten cause 450mm reach seemed way too short for me.
idk if youll see this but im lookign to get this bike here in the next day maybe but I considered getting the Small instead of medium just cause itll be my first mountain bike that will get me started and im 5 6 which is on the border and they only have size 27.5 tires available in the medium anyway. I had a few other questions but was wondering what you might think here. thanks
Morning Kyle, I'm new to mountain biking but rode bmx my entire life. That said jumps are something I love, nothing big but it is something I want to get back into... In the 1200 range could you recommend something? I'm on the fence on ordering this bike, and just want to be certain it's something I can build up to handle some jumps. Thanks for your help, your videos have been great. -Shawn
Just found your channel cause I have been thinking about the xtrada 7, then I saw your OZ shirt, I'm in Springdale. Want to sell me the Xtrada? :D Nice video man, in depth.
I ordered one of these in the XL last Friday. Hope it ships soon. Those lockjaw’s look sick on the bike! Maybe it will thaw out enough this weekend so you can take her out! I live in North East Texas near Arkansas
Congrats on the bike! I rode the paved trails today, and it will probably be a few more days of sunshine before the trails are ready. The grips do look incredible on the bike, and an easy affordable upgrade too. They are way more comfy than the stock grips. Hope you get yours soon!
Hope the trails dried out and you got to hit them! Well, two weeks after my bikesonline in stock order still hasn’t shipped. Finally gave up and called the California number. It routes your call overseas. All they said was your order will ship this week or next. I’m really hoping this is a legit company.
Depends on what your idea of a sponsored video is. I wasn't paid by anyone for this video which is what I define as sponsored. I always have turned down any opportunity that requires me to sign any contract, or where they give me a script/talking points. I also state up front to companies that I will be honest and show the positives and negatives. Just so happens I really like this bike, and it's hard to criticize what you get for the price. Not sure why you're watching UA-cam reviews if you find them all to be useless. If I could afford to buy every bike possible to give you a useful review (in your eyes) then I would, but UA-cam certainly isn't my full time job, so if someone wants to send me a product that I want to review, I'll take it, and I'm willing to bet you'd do the same if presented the opportunity.
So they just shipped you a $1200 bike for free so you could bitch about every possible thing for 8 minutes? Man that company must be some kind people, too kind in fact.
What exactly am I bitching about? They sent me a bike to do a honest review of. Since this bike is geared towards beginners, I pointed out some items worth noting that most beginners may not notice. If someone is going to spend $1,100 from one of my videos, I choose to present them with all the specs and facts so they can make an informed decision. If I ignore all the little details of this bike, someone may buy it, then realize they can't run that longer dropper post they wanted, it can't be converted tubeless etc... If you want nothing but praise for the bike then just read the marketing materials on the website. I'm stoked to have this bike, like it quite a lot, and said many positive things about it in this video too.
Damn, those colors are poppin! Love to see you involved in the Bikes Online fun.
I'm gonna be peacocking all over the trails!
I don't agree. I think that bike's the uglies colored thing on the planet. Purple? Really?

for less than 1500 you can build up a Ragley frame be it a mmmbop or big al, and have boost, a hardcore hardtail with aggressive geometry

Otherwise excellent bike for what it is.
i would get a canyon stoic 4 cuz it's in stock in a size large and geo is for me. xtrada would be great too
That Stoic is sweet! Pretty shocking they have them in stock right now too.
A nice bike my main complaint is the front and rear axle spacing are not the same.
So super boost and a non matching boost.
