There are some odd omissions. Not mentioning Dad is getting the mail, not showing Dad's seeming obsession with harlequins, not talking about Colonel Sassacre, some other stuff as well. Meanwhile, there's a lot I would cut (though I understand why you didn't!) Cutting the opening scenes of John messing around with his sylladex may seem sacrilegious, but I think while it works in mock adventure game style, it feels too aimless in animation. Commands similarly work there but feel jarring here, because it feels much more than in the comic that John has no agency. The narration, however, fits in pretty smoothly. I agree with everything you said here (which was quite concise btw), and wanted to add something on the captchalogue portion. Part of Homestuck's original writing had to do with conveying to readers more information than they'd normally need so they could submit commands that made sense and progressed the pages. All the screwing around with the sylladex and the in-depth tutorial conversation with Dave were excellent inclusions in the original comic, but don't really serve any purpose in this different medium since there's no active viewer engagement. With how long Homestuck is, it would definitely be wise to consider changes and omissions like this to ensure the final product is as engaging and time-efficient as possible. It's going to be quite the challenge, as the styles of presenting information are vastly different, but I think it could be done with lots of feedback. That being said, the foundation here is excellent, and I'm excited to see where this goes once they've found their flow. I'll be keeping a very close eye on this as it's being made.

Man, maybe it’s just the fact that I’m looking back on something nostalgic from over a decade ago but John and Dave really do talk like weird 13 year olds, which is exactly what they are.
Recent rereads of Acts 1-5 have gotten me feeling that way too. People used to say that the Beta kids didn't really sound like 13 years olds, but idk John always felt that way, and the Beta kids in general seem to act like dorky young teens too. There's a certain silliness and the sense that they're simultaneously still kinda immature and prone to freaking out, but are trying to impress everyone and seem more mature than they are. It's especially evident in the exaggerated depictions of parental angst that John and Rose deal with. You can see that even in the hyper-violent, edgier trolls, especially Karkat, Tavros, Terezi and Vriska -- they seem more mature but in the context of their society they're surely all still seen as grubs. Maybe people just felt that way because the characters seemed oddly resilient to the insanity and world-ending experiences they were dealing with? But I think that might be because most of them are a little too good at compartmentalizing, and maybe because the early acts literally take place within roughly 24 hours. Maybe it's cause I'm in my mid-20s now and they all just seem like kids now, and I tend to think that most adults are barely more mature than teenagers or tweens.
This is amazing. John’s voice is kind of weird, but it fits him perfectly because he is also super weird. Rose’s voice was amazing, and Dave’s voice was so Dave that I cannot wait until he has a conversation with Davesprite. Great work!
YOU STUCK HIS HAND IN THE BACKGROUND!!!! Oh my god this looks phenomenal so far, I particularly adore the way you styled it, it's so on point to the comic while still having its own flair. Everyone did a brilliant job, I wish you all luck!!!!!

My friends and I recently finished reading Homestuck. So I've actively been looking for new Homestuck videos in 2023, and seeing Act 1 Episode 1 get an entire animatic is awesome to see!
This was an absolute pleasure going through it! All of you are doing an amazing job and it's really exciting to know such a thing is being created... It's super cool to see homestuck animated and it also makes some of the jokes land in a new manner. I enjoyed how the captchalogue bits were done, Since it is a UI thing I fear they would get in the way of a More traditional animation, but it ended up working just as well as always!
First of all just thank you all for this masterpiece, right now I'm just flabbergasted by your work. The animation fit so well, Dave having expression with is sunglaces, YES, LOGIC! The narrator tone/voice is exactelly what is expected. I'm going crazy it's so great, you've made a great gift to the Homestuck community and other in general, it's another way to approach the webcomic but such in an accurate way. I could continue to write a long praise but I'm stopping here, again thank you for this video! (PS: If you need French subtitles.... This reminded me why I liked act 1 so much - the casual conversation between online friends, the nostalgia of being a kid in the year of our lord, playing around with the world, pretending it’s a video game… Happy 4/13 everyone)
much easier to digest than the comic itself, but still captures the spirit of it and the nostalgia definitely hit me like a freight train. everyone did so good!! the art is wonderful and definitely keeps in line with the homestuck style. so excited to see more of this from yall when yall get the chance to work on it more, doing this for the entirety of the comic wont be easy but it makes me so happy to see yall getting as far as yall have. i love love LOVE the typing animations and dave’s expressions happening purely with the sunglasses, definitely laughed my ass off at those because that makes so much sense for him. hearing the ending of the video (you have a feeling its going to be a long day) absolutely made me cry a little, i won’t deny it. my only kind of critiques are that rose’s lines do sound a bit far away, and john loses his disguise when the urn drops, but i don’t remember if the latter happens in the comic itself so maybe it’s just that lol. regardless, excellent job!! keep up the excellent work!! yall got this 💜💜💜
I know basically nothing about Homestuck except Toby Fox did some of the original music, so this should be really interesting. Good luck with the rest of it you all!
I had a whole paragraph typed out on the nature of the webcomic and why I adore these types of things, but listening to Foley on page 82 made me delete it. Thank you for working on this so tirelessly. I, and many others in this fandom, GREATLY appreciate your efforts on producing content for Homestuck, our holy bible.

wow they're really making homestuck into an animated series it's so cool man no like seriously, I hope the project succeds and I will be able to watch the entire homestuck as an animated series as I'm nearing my retirement in 50 years
I'm amazed by the effort that was put into even the first cut. I hope this is pushed to more people who aren't familiar with homestuck and that it gets the attention it deserves!
Honestly, Huge homestuck fan here, This is already exceptional. If you are going to do the full series, PLEASE take a break to admire how good the work you guys do is.
This is utterly fantastic and so well adapted. Me and my friend just finished Homestuck together this 4-13 after slowly reading it for like 6 months- it’s so exciting to finally see new fan content come out as it’s happening! And something as impactful as this!
This is by the far most competent and well-thought out concept for an animated rendition of Homestuck that I have ever seen. No one before has put this much effort and thought into what Homestuck could be in motion.
My friend Luna has advised me to not look for more Homestuck things to watch while I prepare myself for civing back into it soon (I only read a little past act 1 back in 2020), but this video has been in my reccomended multiple times yesterday and today, so i clicked it. This is just... freaking wonderful! And it made me feel things I didnt know possible concidering I am only fammiliar with such a miniscule part of the comic! I love that the voices are jsut pretty regular and arent very exaggurated, I think it benefits a story like Homestuck and I loved your rendition of the [S] page at the end, it was wonderful, upon re-reading the act recently I realised how much I appreciated that short moment of geniuine prose and this animated version was very cool to see Though I wish some things werent cut, like seeing dad outside the window, but I appreciate that you put the piano refrain of showdown in the credits! Thats great I wish everyone the best of luck with this project and I hope it's not too much of a pain to complete. Honestly if it were like this only a bit cleaned up instead of made into a full fluid animation I'd be okay with that! this is already so so good.
i just discovered this today and i think i cannot describe the happiness it provided me i was genuinely shocked when i looked at your team's sub count, and will be doing my very best to spread the word concerning your genuinely impressive work! i cannot wait to see more of you guys' content!!!
I don't know why I waited so long to watch this, yet it made me feel _SO_ much nostalgia (as it's been ages since I've read Acts 1 - 4) I can tell already this project is going to come out amazingly ^v^
As someone with reading issues who hasn’t read too far into homestuck because of it this is gonna be the best thing ever- can’t wait to watch ALL of it!! 😍😍😍
Idk if you’ve heard about this yet, but theres a read aloud series by Voxus Nexus you can watch as an alternative! Thats how i got into homestuck myself :)
On one hand, the effort and talent put into this is absolutely mindboggling! Massive props to everyone involved. On the other hand, I think this could benefit a *lot* from a bit more looseness in its adaptation, most particularly in the department of condensing things further. Not only would that probably make it work better in this medium in terms of flow and stuff, but it'd make things much easier in the long run (even if it would leave behind some of the work put into this-sunk cost fallacy and all that)-at this rate, adapting the whole comic (I'm unsure if you're truly _that_ ambitious, although the presence of John's retcon arm would seem to indicate that…) would take just under 100 episodes! (Lots of other comments with very good suggestions as well. Also, I really do hope you find this criticism (both that of this and other comments) constructive instead of frustrating-nothing should detract from what an incredible accomplishment this already is.)
this is so goooodddd, love the art style, the jokes, the music, great job putting this together! much luck with whatever's coming next, wishing ya'll love
I love that they actually sound like 13 year olds many homestuck voice overs make them sound like adults and it always bothered me it took away the teenage feel they had to their speech :3
You guys absolutely nailed it!!!! The voice acting, animation, writing added AH!!! I ADORE IT ALL!!! The backgrounds are wonderfully done, I love how you used the space and I know I feel like I am there in the house with John. Amazing work!!!

I’m literally so excited for this right now, I run a Promstuck event every year with my friends at a con and I’m always so afraid Homestuck will be too irrelevant by the time we run the next one. 2:14 To captchalogue something you've made it so John has to squeeze the item, and he hesitates with the handful of nails 😂
It's honestly a great idea, and how I always figured captchaloguing would work "for real", that you need to physically hold the item and _have intent_ to store it.

YOOOOOO They remembered to put John’s hand next to the Homestuck title at 12:18!
Overall: this is incredible. It's extremely fun to watch, well produced from VA to animation. The urn scene is an obvious highlight (though the smashing sound effect is a bit out of place where the urn remains intact!) and I love that you called back to the original Homestuck book 1 with that upward angle of John during the note desolation plays.
I think you could spice up the typing shots (which are amazing - the smoothness on the finger animation is brilliant) by adding in other planning shots of the things they talk about, like Game Bro, the calendar, the Little Monsters poster, the apple juice, zoom in on characters' faces occasionally, etc. It's not that those scenes are bad, and it would be wasted effort to add more complex animation to them, but a few interspersed bits of visual interest that convey information to the audience would go a long way and take advantage of the medium.
Overall, this is incredibly impressive on a technical level, and I was smiling a lot watching it, seeing these scenes come to life.
The start of something great.
I love that the voices are jsut pretty regular and arent very exaggurated, I think it benefits a story like Homestuck
and I loved your rendition of the [S] page at the end, it was wonderful, upon re-reading the act recently I realised how much I appreciated that short moment of geniuine prose and this animated version was very cool to see
Though I wish some things werent cut, like seeing dad outside the window, but I appreciate that you put the piano refrain of showdown in the credits! Thats great
I wish everyone the best of luck with this project and I hope it's not too much of a pain to complete. Honestly if it were like this only a bit cleaned up instead of made into a full fluid animation I'd be okay with that! this is already so so good.
i really loves this, that said, maybe having the commands on screen (and maybe a mouse clicking it) would serve to help understand the narration
I thought this was well, or just have the text blink as though it was clicked. it would make the scene changes better I think
i just discovered this today and i think i cannot describe the happiness it provided me
i was genuinely shocked when i looked at your team's sub count, and will be doing my very best to spread the word concerning your genuinely impressive work!
i cannot wait to see more of you guys' content!!!
Also, I really do hope you find this criticism (both that of this and other comments) constructive instead of frustrating-nothing should detract from what an incredible accomplishment this already is.)
great voice acting, and glad to see that it's uncensored, it is faithful to the original and yet has it's own unique charm. imma sub to you now
this is so goooodddd, love the art style, the jokes, the music, great job putting this together! much luck with whatever's coming next, wishing ya'll love
DUDE finally! I was begging for an animated adaptation of homestuck ever since I started reading it. So cool you guys are doing this !
I love that they actually sound like 13 year olds many homestuck voice overs make them sound like adults and it always bothered me it took away the teenage feel they had to their speech :3
Fantastic,
Just keep doing these with those sketches, it's a signature by this point.
This is it, this is the thing that gets me back into Homestuck
watching this was what made me read homestuck last year! I just stumbled across it again and remembered this was the inciting incident
dave’s shades doing the spiderman masks emotes is such a big brain idea im so in love with it
RECENT HOMESTUCK??? YESSSS OMG
I love the voices and love the art style even more! This so good! You really put a lot of work into this and it shows! Amazing!
You guys absolutely nailed it!!!! The voice acting, animation, writing added AH!!! I ADORE IT ALL!!!
The backgrounds are wonderfully done, I love how you used the space and I know I feel like I am there in the house with John.
Amazing work!!!
i dont know if yall will ever finish this just cuz its literally homestuck that shit is long but id really love to see even just 2 episodes i really like this project lol
brb showing this to everyone i know.
everyone comment for the youtube algorithm to boost this to high heaven
SCREAMING CRYING THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST HOMESTUCK ADAPTATIONS EVER OMG, (second only to lets read homestuck) THE ANIMATION AND VOICE ACTING WAS TOP TIER
What an amazing way to experience Homestuck. The artstyle fits the original story really and the animation is fluid and satisfying to watch.
This is so incredible! Immediately brought me back to early high school days and the animation fluidity was beautiful. Not to mention the voice acting, the music, the attention to detail on the narration- just, screams!
the madlads are actually doing it
Oh wow, this is an impressive project! Very entertaining, you made it flow really smoothly from comic to animatic/animated form!
WOW!!!! This is incredible, amazing job!!! That end scene especially so so cool. Congratulations on pulling this off, seriously.
The voice acting for everyone was killer too.
The animation? The voice acting? The goofs & gaffs? Top tier!! One could say.. god tier??
This was so good! Props to the great animators and voice actors!
I’m literally so excited for this right now, I run a Promstuck event every year with my friends at a con and I’m always so afraid Homestuck will be too irrelevant by the time we run the next one. Seeing stuff like this gives me so much hope for the fandom’s future! It’s so exciting to see new Homestuck things going on! Keep up the good work, everyone involved seems to be doing such a great job so far!
Hey I run the biggest Homestuck blog on tumblr and I'm gonna signal boost this to all the three people still using that platform. Great job.

Okay Ive been with Homestuck from the *beginning* and I dont hesitate to say this might be, if continued, it's ideal final form. I can't imagine the masterpiece of experiencing the entire comic like this, just, great fucking work man.

You all are utterly insane for even starting down this road, but I have to respect what you're doing.
