Hi, lovely playing. The camera is well positioned to show the fingering but it's a pity that your left hand is only just in shot and sometimes drops out of shot completely.

Hi Al! Thanks for the comment. I tend to discourage my students from watching my fingers too much and to keep working on relying on their ears. I made this video mostly for those who have worked on these tunes individually, and want to try playing them as a set. :) One suggestion I would make is to change the playback speed a bit when learning a tune, which you can do by clicking that little "settings" wheel on the video. But I'll think about that for future videos...I hope to have more in-depth tutorials soon. Thanks!

Loved your addition to already awesome Shannon and Matt Heaton today 👍🏻
What cainúint and styles influenced you the most?
Many talented musicians in that neighbourhood it would seem

Thanks so much, it was so fun to play.... I started my Irish fiddle journey with a James Kelly workshop week, and he's still a great influence on me. Then so many - from my friend, Vermont fiddler Sarah Blair to Liz Carroll, Mick Conneally, Martin Hayes, and lots of sessions here in Boston, and during my time in Ireland, and so on. The Boston College Fiddle Festival "My Love is in America" recording from 1990 or so is still one of my all-time resources for exploring the different styles and players out there- solo fiddle with only bodhran accompanying. Might be hard to find now....

@@elleryklein-fiddler9330 That James Kelly here with Arty McGlynn?

      He is brilliant!
I watch and played along a couple of tunes on that Fiddle hell sesh you were and I found it very easy to figure out the notes and pleasant to play along.
Cause I don’t recall having seen you before, or perhaps on Tune Supply?
Be sure you are in my top 5 of fidil players from Northern America with Caitlín Warbelow and Valérie Plested, that Liz Caroll has a very unique sound like rich and squeezy, I wonder how she does.
I play the guitar but for learning a melody the fiddle and melodion are my favourite instruments.
      Kindest Greetings from Brussels, Belgium.
Hope you come back again next week 😼, I could sense Matt was very glad to play today too, and Shannon too.

@@Melvorgazh That's the James Kelly I mean. I have mostly been teaching and performing locally the last decade, but hoping to be teaching more online after this past year got me more used to doing it. :)

      @@elleryklein-fiddler9330 Excellent!
I saw Máiréad Ní Mhaonaigh teaching on the Internet.
I think she can make a living out of it before the gigs are allowed again. And you Ellery, do you normally play gigs and concerts?
      Regards 🙂

    Heyo dear, Lady 😺
I finally made some space on my smartphone and was able to download that Live session with Matt and Shannon audio you played this Summer.
    First choice for practicing.
And also the audio of this one.
Last week they had the lovely Maura :) she is also great.
By any chance do the names Valérie Plested and Samatha Hunt ring a bell?
And ever met with that fidil player here?

    Sláinte agat!
Hope to see you back with the Heaton’s before Nollaig 😉
    Have nice week!

Hi :) Love your playing and the Salt & Pepper album is awesome. I have a question- you play a lovely reel called the sunshine, is it a tune of your own? or do you know if it has another name? i tried to find the music for it to learn but no joy. All the best and thanks again for your music. :)

thanks so much! The Sunshine Reel was written by my Fódhla trio-mate and flute player Nicole Rabata. I don't know if she has it on sheet music anywhere. Great tune, right?
