Also the movie was released around 2006-07 so when poonam and chhoti were in childhood it would have been 80's and 90's and as boomer generation person I can tell you there was a lot of insecurity in darker shade people. And to be honest people used to directly mock people with dark skin shade. So I can understand chachiji's defence mechanism for her daughter as per the situation in movie. If we judge this movie by 2021 scenario then we have a lot of problem with this movie.
Yes but if Shahid Kappor went to see choti, will he or his family would have agreed? Answer is no. It wasn't shown but I am sure that relatives and neighbors were comparing both the girls since their childhood for their looks. And chachaji, wow, he saved Poonam, then her Joda and then when his wife pointed out he remembered to save his daughter chhoti.

Even in times of marriage, people are more focused on the Degree the girl has, the job she is doong or whether she is well mannered or not. No one, simply no one discuss about the complexion of the girl. And yes I am talking about the early 80s.

You missed one point, this movie promotes color discrimination, agar ladki gori hai to sundar, aur agar kaali hai to vo badsurat 😂, chachi ji apni ladki to safed powder lagati rehti hain, 😂

Also color discrimination was a part of society in early 80s and 90s. And it is still part of village and small town culture.
@@siddhantjaiswal9115 colour discrimination is everywhere, you are told ugly if you are a dark/brown skin and people will make you feel that there is something wrong in your skin, where is nothing wrong being kala, brown, it's totally genetics. Actually kala, brown comes from indigenous genes of Indian sub continent. Before mixing with western people, indian population was brown only. Until fairness creams are being sold and bought, discrimination will still be there.

The entire concept of marriage shown in the movie was highly derogatory and male chauvinistic I belief. On top of that unrealistic as well. Educated, healthy, talented women don’t get married so easily and face so much of societal prejudices in India but someone who got burnt got married. It shows that how unrealistic the movie plot was. Never liked the film.
I have seen similar scenario & always loved this movie. In fact it got massive live from masses back then. U forgot one scene where Anupam Kher says that she should join office after education even his elder daughter in law did. He believes women are better adminstrator than men. Check the movie again to find this dialogue. It's just that today's modern non-virgin youth (male female) have crushed values under their so-called modernization. Really sad

While we are talking about movie highlighting fair part why can't acknowledge & accept the fact despite being burnt the groom's family accepted the girl wholeheartedly. If fairness & physicality was the issue then the marriage wouldn't have happened. And tell me very honestly wouldn't u luk for gud lukng life partner for your kids. Who doesn't consider luks while planning for marriage? If it wasn't why all are so well dressed up for the nuptial.
