January 1977: Sting was still playing vague jazz, fusion, funk, in Newcastle, with his band Last Exit. In February 1977 the band moved to London to play some gigs. The same month Sting joined The Police and recorded Fallout. And the next month, March 1977... this show! Wow!!
Sounds pretty good! Just like early Police with Andy Summers. Thanks for uploading this rarity.
Sting with a Geordie accent, priceless!
Is this the days when we used to wear metal badges on our jackets

Thank you !
Many thanks for upload
WOW !! AWESOME !! THANK YOU !!
THANK YOU for posting this Darren. I always wondered if Henri Padovani was a decent guitar player and he played well on these songs.
I think he did alright for the time being but you can tell Sting wanted someone who also had the jazz sophistication and background that he had. Also I think they clicked energy and vibe wise and Henry didn’t
Henri is playing the wrong parts at the wrong time at the start of Dead End Job but plays a decent solo
Sting doing stand up.....who da thought!!
Thank You, man!!!!!
Franco Pando yes! Please subscribe
Muchas gracias y muchos saludos desde Santiago de Chile.
Love this!
Well that exposes the Henri Padovani could play better than the trope they throw out!
Ok Andy Summers was on another planet but Henri could play!
Yeah Henri could play; he was as good as any "punk" guitarist on the scene. They just wanted to not be punk and wanted a more sophisticated player. But Henri was decent, and became much better later.
He wasn’t great let’s be honest
Henri was the coolest of them by far.
Peccato
The guy playing guitar on the right is not Andy Summers!
is Henry Padovani
Turns out Padovani was a decent guitarist and played fast! But no one can play what Andy Summers did! He was exceptionally gifted and knew how to play with effects and creat soundscapes!
I’d say Padovani got Pete Bested from the Police. I wonder if he got paid anything finally like Pete Best did for Anthology 1? I kind of doubt it.
He played at the final gig of the reunion tour
@@foraustralia2558 Well, he got some recognition and respect them at the end finally. Good for him!
Henri worked for / with Miles Copeland, Sting and others. I don't think that he was ever out of work after The Police hit it big. They looked after him.
@@Albrecht777 That’s great! Because he missed out on the Fame and money.
@@dynjarren8355 Indeed! I'm sure that was their reasoning, too.
Any chance of posting the tape of them backing Cherry Vanilla? Cann't find a copy anywhere.
The police using HH electronic. That’s def an IC100
THX Darren for these great Police shows !!!! How come they have now surfaced 40 years later? were you the soundman?
Martin Savale If I was alive 40 years ago then sure, lol. Nah, I just collect shows and put em up on the Internet
I bought a bootleg of the Mont de Marson gig at Edinburgh Ingleston market in 1984 I think it was, in fact I still have the tape after all these years, and the set is similar to this gig.
This was before Andy Summers Joined the band,
9:39 isnt this grand hotel by last exit???
That song Grand Hotel sounds very Faces
do you have any early shows then this like the first show
Sorry I dont
6 years later they play in Shea stadium to 70 thousand
History
I wonder what song was after Clowns Revenge cause it’s definitely not “It’s My Life”
Night at the Grand Hotel
I don't understand anything that sting says between each song... someone can transcribe some part worth listening to... Thank you.
Landlord and Dead End Job sound different. I wonder who rearranged them.
And Henry does not sound half bad, makes me wonder why he REALLY was kicked out.
... because Andy Summers was a better musician and Sting, who by then had practically taken over the Police from Stewart, decided that Summers was the right choice for a trio (btw, for a short while, the Police had 2 guitarists). The whole story and dynamics are well described in Henry's autobiography "Secret Police Man", published in 2006.
Landlord, like Fall Out on the single and this concert, is basically played in a key requiring Sting to sing high. Perhaps these two were pitched down to prevent vocal strain?
There is a reason Stewart played the rhythm guitar parts on the early police singles...
@@malicious1969 That book's value seems to have exploded, can't fund it on amazon/ebay/bookdepository for a reasonable price.
@@malicious1969 unfortunately only available in French, nowadays
Get it together! Someone has 2 O levels...
Thank you¡¡¡¡¡. what is Sting say, when audience laught. Sorry my english is terrible
"Mum?"
Andy ‘s Summers guitar playing is the missing link here, with lot’s respect to Padovani’s playing… do not forget this is punk area mid seventies…
That’s hippy talk man!
Tim Ward very hippy talk lol. If your interested in more Sting and Police shows please subscribe. I also do challenges, pranks, dares and reactions to crazy videos
Darren Henderson thanks mate I’ve subscribed keep up the good work much appreciated 👍🏻
Tim Ward please be warned that I’ll also be doing reaction videos and maybe some song covers, pranks, etc. I just want to become an actual UA-camr
@@TimboTravelsupdate 6 years late: I was such an annoying teenager back then wasn’t I..?
@@darrenhenderson3 ha ha no not at all 🙂
Padovani is good! And his solo style and sound is not far away from Andy's...
The police raw only 1 song reconignise landlord b side so lonley single lol
Fallout is also played.
Landlord was B side to Message...
@@_6079SMITH Kids to Blame is a Copeland song, so , technically it was written for The Police too.
You can hear why sting got frustrated with that french guitarist
