Thanks Keith!! I am a Cisco guy all around, but branching out to other venders gives me another skill. Especially easy when you have the best instructor ever!!!
You make us love everything explain. You are so far away from other Teachers Keith, the way you explain the subject. is incredible, you Deserve Golden buz.
An excellent guide! I'm starting deployment of a pair of PA-3430s Monday, moving from the ASA world. Will the ubiquitous blue Cisco console cable that every self-respecting network admin/engineer has 15,000 of work here?
Curious. How is the firewall reaching out to Palo Alto to get the software and license information? I assume you already have a wan interface configured for DHCP and connected to your ISP? Edit: ok I realize now the MGMT interface is connected to your home ISP. In my mind the MGMT interface wouldn’t be internet facing but I see that’s how it is set up now.
Question: I was given an older 3050 that is running PanOS 5.0.7, followed the video thru login to the web interface, and it hangs at the dashboard load following cred entry. How can I force thru the hanging, if at all?
Question about the dynamic updates, why do you have to manually download and install applications and threats to get anti-virus? I’m coming from the Fortinet world and if the firewall is licensed and has a connection to the internet, you don’t have to do these manual steps. What happens when a new update is needed for the Palo? Do you have to keep manually updating the dynamic updates?
Thank you for the question Sabotocki. After initial setup, you can also set the schedule for how often to check or the updates, and then whether or not to automatically have them downloaded, installed, or both.

Is it possible to set up a palo alto firewall without licensing in a lab environment for fun? I saw they had a "lab license" but can you get away without that?

I see you have mentioned configuring default static route but I'm not seeing where it's actully configured?
enjoying the videos, for the Palo Alto are there any licensing issues like the meraki mx84FW?
An excellent guide! I'm starting deployment of a pair of PA-3430s Monday, moving from the ASA world. Will the ubiquitous blue Cisco console cable that every self-respecting network admin/engineer has 15,000 of work here?
Thank you for the question @keyswelch. Yes, that same blue rollover cable works on the Palo Alto FW as well.
Happy labbing!!!

Not sure about how to solve that one.

Does a factory reset remove licenses?
Factory reset doesn't remove the licenses.
Thank U so much mister
Happy to do it, thanks for the feedback Mohammed Harag.

0:29 Hey Kieith. That thing looks RUBUST! Is it feasible for a war zone?
Thank you for the question Eddy Cuevas.
They do have a "Ruggedized" flavor. www.securityweek.com/palo-alto-networks-releases-new-rugged-firewall/
Is it possible to set up a palo alto firewall without licensing in a lab environment for fun? I saw they had a "lab license" but can you get away without that?
Thank you for the question @beeefin. Some type of license is required to practice with the advanced features.
No matter what I do I get invalid syntax error.
