China Southern. Cheap & functional but don't expect great food or good service.

There are a lot of Chinese airlines, some are average and some are poor. Come fly China Southern . I found them cheap & functional and safe but don't expect great food or good service.
Let’s be honest, the headquarter of China Southern Airlines, Guangzhou, it’s a food paradise.
I have no doubt there is great food available in Guangzhou, as there is in several cities and regions in China. One bad experience on an airline. is simply that one bad experience it certainly isn’t an indictment of a particular city or country for that matter. Travel safe.

Thanks for the video Ewan. Yes you are correct in the low prices. Here in Europe the mainland Chinese carriers are simply discounters who will sell destinations in Asia/Australasia via their hubs in China (I don't refer to Hongkong-based CX which is a premier airline with high prices). But since the Ukraine conflict these airlines (not CX though) have gained an advantage in that they overfly Russia (Western carriers do not use Russian airspace) so can offer faster travel times between Europe and Asia.
A great point you’re right they can afford to be slightly cheaper with the money they save with shorter sector times than their better quality competitors.
@@ewanwilson2315 Yes. I mean one UK vlogger recently travelled LHR-BKK with Air China via Beijing. He filmed the long trip including the Beijing transit. Air China had one of the lowest prices. In normal times such a routing would be considered ridiculous !

I lived in Guangzhou for about 10 years and I had to travel domestically quite often for business but I did use CZ mostly but for int'l flights I did use SQ, Air NZ as well as CXall ex HKG and had no issues with any

what kinda good service you expect from economy class, at least it's much better than most of the western major airlines which has no service at all in economy...
I think you might be mixing domestic services versus Intl airline services. With the exception of the odd low-cost long-haul carrier like Scoot most most carriers provide full meal and bar service in economy . I clearly highlight that China Southern is safe, they were punctual and cheap. but I don’t rate their service or food. I’m flying a couple of Chinese airlines again over the next few months and I look forward to putting them to the test again.
Do they still require an expensive visa even for transit ?
No, they don’t although there’s quite a process at the airport but you don’t need a Visa in advance. In fact you can transit and leave the airport in some cities without a Visa for between 24 and 48 hours and then some cities up to 72 hours but you need to verify that with the carrier and your point of entry.

The seats are not leather, they are plastic looking superficially like leather.

old man, Chinese airlines are excellent, if you want better food go with business class next time you get what you pay for.
Good airlines serve great food even in economy. The facts are China Sothern on the two flights we had were safe but had poor service and poor food.

my experience has taught me you can fly economy and get great service and amazing food. That's the mark of a good airline.
To be fair, even for economy that food looks awful!
Yesterday I was watching another vlogger who posted his report on CZ for CAN-DXB. Y class. Again you could see the catering quality was not great and onboard service was basic.
Hey, Alex as you say it's clear they have an issue. I hope they can sort it out as other important parts of their operations are good.
