From what I understand, this is how RM views going on western talk shows. The hosts act fake as fuck by pretending to be excited for them, and they are all proud of themselves for learning a couple of Korean phrases or hand gestures, but really, their mask slips showing how they really feel. It’s brilliant!

I also love how they very purposefully presented the talk show sections with no subtitles, so anyone watching, whether they are a Korean or English speaker, is only getting half of the conversation. If we felt frustrated and disoriented not understanding everything they were saying in the video for 30 seconds, it forces you to imagine what it’s like for artists trying to do talk shows not in their native language. Absolutely brilliant.

@@LotusBloom0309 it occurred to me after seeing literally everyone reacting to this video pause, frown, and check to see if their subs are on during the talk show section, and I realized I had done the exact same thing when I first watched it. And the subs of course kick right in for the song so they were clearly left out on purpose…just to give us a little taste of what it’s like to be in such a foreign and uncomfortable environment! This video has so many layers, it’s incredible.

I've been seeing so many interpretations really, but I like the one where this is what happens in his head/his interpretation of a performance, especially abroad. The name of the album is Right Place, Wrong Person, a play on right person in a wrong place, so it could go both ways. So the idea is that he doesn't even remember the performance cause he is struggling inside so much with these different parts of himself, unsure of how to perform or how to present himself. Like a confident and anxious part of himself, being careful and having no impulse control. At the end, he gets out cause these different parts of himself work together. In addition, his brain is an office space, it feels like work, even corporate. And while we love bts and their art and creativity, there is a corporate side to it and a lit of baggage on that side (btw, as he climbs to the surface you can see baggage.)
On the other hand, a cool review of the song also made it seem like "things aren't so bad if you get lost with friends". RM/BTS had the message of being friends with yourself out there before, but this might be more literal, that he had friends help him get to where he is, and he even had to climb over people to get where he is.
Just a few cool interpretations :) Ofc lost in translation could also be added to the list.

"He's not doing that for the BTS crowd". He's doing it for a bunch of us, though. Like you, I like the song and I like the video, but it's way over my head - I think one must be a few decades younger than my 75 years to understand most MV's. Luckily there are UA-camrs like xCeleste and Bookish Theory who do a great job of explaining the nuances. 💜

When he’s in the elevator, there are different people with his name. I think those are his different personalities that he has to put on in the public eye. It makes me think that it’s a play on the Pixar movie “Inside Out”, which is about the main character whose emotions are an influence on her actions as she grows and develops as a person. This song is about RM growing as a person and navigating his personal, public, celebrity lives concurrently. It’s him struggling to find himself and figuring out where he fits in
Today RM just released a performance video of another track from his new album Right Place, Wrong Person, it’s called “Nuts” lol. The song is really good and already a lot of people’s favorite. The video is titled “RM’s ‘Nuts’ Live Video” (by BangtanTV, BTS’s channel).

His first album last year (he had mixtapes before that) was called indigo and it was very listenable and discepherable. Really good songs. I have the cd in my car. But this album is way more cerebral and visceral and experimental. I love it.

I know it seems biarrare and nonsense, but actually this is all really genius. There's an Army theorist that has a great explain video = ua-cam.com/video/6YLW4ngwwmU/v-deo.htmlsi=Ij1am85yv0jUYL8V but a lot of it has to do with actually feeling lost in life, RMs persona's, his experiences with actual talk shows, etc. I also think the lyrics themselves may have something to do with how he was going out with friends and drinking this past year or so as well, and how maybe that was an escape he used while he's been having a rough time emotionally and mentally. Also beware not to pigeon hole the "BTS crowd" as in Army - we're not a monolith and are a huge fandom of millions and there are many of us, like me, who this music is exactly what I love to listen to. Right Person Wrong Place is also predicted to chart #6 on the BB Global charts which would indicate that there are more than enough of us who are fully supporting.

As you've mentioned Jungkook is your favourite, let me tell you, Jungkook joined BTS because of RM. RM is one of his role models from the very start. BTS started out as a hip hop group back in 2013, with 3 rappers (RM, Suga, & J-Hope) and 4 vocalists (Jin, Jimin, V, & Jungkook). These guys were inspired by many of the legends in hip hop. You absolutely need to check out their song "Hip Hop Phile/Lover."

They wrote this song 10 years ago and it is basically BTS paying homage to the Hip Hop Legends of our time that inspired them. Definitely watch the live concert performance version. It's a hidden gem💎. I'm a 60 yr old grandma, and I have never seen a group this talented before. And trust me, I've been to 100+ concerts in the last 40+ years, from Fleetwood Mac, Elton John, Michael and Janet Jackson, Boyz II Men, Usher, Justin Timberlake, and so so many in between, in every genre. BTS is hands down the BEST concert I haver EVER been to! BTS, as a group or doing their own solo projects have broken so many Guinness World records, it's insane. They definitely are NOT the assumed bubblegum teeney bopper boy group at all. Enjoy the journey 💜
