I left USPSA 6 years ago - just letting my membership run out. It was my life for a few years. I made Master - was nipping at GM and I placed high/won a few matches beyond my local Saturday ones. I had all the books, my garage was a dedicated dry fire dojo - I trained every day at home, at the range once a week. It just seemed like a huge investment of time and resources for something that wasn't that much fun. It was like a part time job. I still shoot GSSF (no drama on any level) and I'd shoot an outlaw mixed steel benefit match if one popped up. I re-upped a few years back to vote in an election - I wouldn't be able to do that now. Drama, rule changes, dumb rules, the management. It just wasn't what I wanted to be part of.
Almost the same story. I paid again to reinstate membership to vote... but became ineligible to vote. Will continue membership only if Ben Berry take A6 directorship. At least I managed to get classified in PCC :)
Similar story here too. Attending my 2nd GSSF match tomorrow. The “drama-free” environment is refreshing. This increase may have put the nail in the coffin for me.
5 year renewal last year so I’m locked in for 4 more at the old rate (like my low fixed mortgage). At age 70 it may look a lot different in 4 years but I love it, two USPSA matches and two outlaw matches a month keeps me in shape. Also 3-4 level 2 matches a year is added benefit. I don’t understand why my area rep keeps voting the wrong way. I think it’s an egalitarian thing not in touch with the average income shooter.
My membership expired in June.. Lowering their membership fee would’ve been the only reason I would’ve renewed (~$20 would’ve been nice).. def not renewing my membership now. If they were already bleeding members lowering the membership fee would’ve helped to retain or pull back members (like myself) and they could’ve “slightly” raised the classifier fees to make money on both members and nonmembers still shooting matches.. I’m still going to shoot an occasional match but being able to say I’m an A class shooter to other people that really dgaf at the end of the day isn’t worth $65/year when I’m just shooting because shooting is fun. Imo
I’m a Leo of 28yrs, I shoot Idpa. I got master in SSP, now working to get it in CO. I’ve taken classes from Frank Proctor & Centrifuge, I need to take some of your classes.
This year is the first time I paid for a membership just to see what class I fall in. $25 was fair for that but this year is the first and last time I will be paying for it.
Been a member for 30 years, almost didn’t renew this year because of all the controversy in USPSA over the years. That’s it though, I’ll not renew again.
What magazine? Nothing hitting my mailbox from USPSA. With no multi-year discount I foresee fee revenue falling over time because those who compete casually aren’t going to pay year after year to maintain the same classification.
I don't see the point in paying for membership. Other than a classification system and attending majors, what's the point? If you're a pro or semi-pro, it's just a cost of doing business. For the average "wanna get good" shooters, I have access to several local matches with high level shooters. Bottom line: what's in it for the majority?
Yeah, it's getting high enough to think twice about it. Still, as a percentage of your total participation cost, it's pretty low, assuming you shoot at least a couple of matches and a couple thousand rounds a year.
I already knew I was going to be a life member once my 3 year ended Sept 24, so earlier this year I decided to go ahead and up to Life. If I didn't do that then Life member would be out of the question. They also excluded people from being able to be on the board.
I doubt I’ll renew at those prices. It’s not that I don’t have it but I only shoot level 1 matches so there’s really no benefit to me other than classification and I don’t need to spend $65 to have the USPSA tell me I’m underachieving.
Ok, well what if there was an application where you uploaded video of a classifier stage run and timer output? The fees can go to maintaining the compute resources burned and publishing a digital ID with shooter classification if that’s meaningful.
I only maintain membership for scoring on events. The individual breakdown in scoring is worth the money paid per year but not 65 so I'll probably let mine lapse in 3 years when it expires and just snap photos of the scoring at the end of the event.
Is’t the events (matches) something you pay for? In Sweden we pay like 45 dollar to Ipsc and between 70-80 dollar ( level 2) and 120 -150 dollar ( level 3 and national championship) for matches
I'll renew. However my interest in shooting Level 2 matches is zero the last year. Recently had to choose between a vacation with the family or going shoot a Level 2 and I chose vacation. At this point with the cost of everything my money is better spent taking a quality training class over shooting a level 2 match.
When my 3 year expires, I’ll be moving out of USPSA. This Leadership team as a whole is inept and grossly under qualified: life bans unjustly issued, mismanaged budgets, and now this level of increase with no fundamental change to the product. Disappointing and unfortunate. IDPA here I come…
I just got a 3 year membership this last November so I’m locked in till 2025, and I’m consistently going to several local matches a month. I’m using matches and classifications as a standard metric to judge myself so I do find that valuable. If I’m keeping this pace during renewal time - I’ll pay, but this is a pretty steep increase to call it “adjusting for inflation” lol
I've got a few friends who just started shooting USPSA this year and haven't become members because they don't see any value for them only going to local matches (they don't care about classification). You think raising the price of the membership just won them over? Or maybe would lowering the cost made it to cheap for them to have a reason not to join?
Welp...was thinking about getting back into USPSA but this makes me say nah. I'll just shoot and I can look up my own classifier scores and know where I am. Unless you're towards the top and winning/sponsored to go to these events it makes almost no sense to be a member. I'm never going to be one of the fools that spends thousands to go to nationals just to pay for the top 5% who go for free or make money doing so. You can shoot ALL of these events unclassified, so why be a member unless you're at the top and it actually pays/makes sense? I'll never understand these dudes who want to claim "division winner" or whatever when they are down 3 or 4 classes from GM. Even if you are GM it doesn't make sense unless you're competitive w/the top and or sponsored. The board has voted themselves pay increases and obviously show NO duty to members or fiscal responsibility, the board positions are for they themselves rather than growth of the sport. As Ben points out they travel at a SIGNIFICANTLY higher cost than him...and that's only on purpose. If there's waste there there is waste everywhere else. Who gives a hoot about a print magazine? LoL
I dumped my membership, I"ve not renewed. I was pony'ing up just to maintain my RO status. But honestly, nobody at matches cares who's actually and RO or not. And there's a good number of matches in my area that aren't USPSA. And the ones that are USPSA aren't really run better anyway.
Or they can just charge more for the events. Seriously this is not a hard concept. I've run events for other organizations. The cost of the event should not be more than the dues collected at the door unless you vastly over estimate the number of people coming to the event. Obviously there might be a few exceptions for promotional events but that should be rare enough and offset by the budget.
I haven’t shot a match this year. I’m not going to renew next April I was into it for years but after the Kung fu flu and prices on ammo and availability of ammo has slowed me down. I’m retired and I don’t like buying ammo 50 rounds at a time for a ridiculous amount of money. I don’t have access to large boxes of ammo anymore without traveling about an hour away so it’s just not worth the trouble. Plus I watched the NRA take over and knew then bad things were happening so bailed on that organization long ago. I don’t see good things happening with this power grab by the board and honestly if not stopped things will only get worse. Power and greed are things that destroy organizations very similar to our government..
45% increase on annual fees doesn't simply address inflation.

lol Ben is constantly shitting on the Centrifuge grifters
@@algodon7424 I try to learn things I can use from every shooting class I take. Somethings are useful, some are not. 😁
The cost structure to participate is getting absolutely ridiculous….heaven forbid they cut costs!😎
This year is the first time I paid for a membership just to see what class I fall in. $25 was fair for that but this year is the first and last time I will be paying for it.
This is why I renewed for 3 years last year, knew this was coming.

Im lucky to have a local club that is drama free and relaxed.

My 3 year expires in November. Letting it lapse 🤷🏽♂️
Just locked in a lifetime membership a few weeks back. I kind of expected this to happen and plan to shoot for the foreseeable future.
Renewing and subsidizing their shitty decisions seems dumb.

Probably won’t renew. I’ll just make my own shooting course and invite friends over for shooting and food.

Who gives a hoot about a print magazine? LoL
Ought to increase interest in outlaw matches.
The REAL question is how much will they gouge the clubs in attendance fees.

I’ll renew as an associate. Don’t need the magazine of ads
Don't think that's an option anymore. Hope I'm wrong for your sake.
It's not an option anymore!
I laughed at the thought of you getting reinstated just so they can get your $65 a year.
3 gun seems to be the same, has jumped 100 dollars (75%)for a 2 day match inside a year.

Make IDPA great again.
The cost that people spend on Guns and equipment and matches, $65 is nothing for an entire year. People spend that for their Starbucks in a week.
They're at least getting something from Starbucks. $65 a year for a couple Kb's of space on a server somewhere is a bit much.
