Ceramics are just plain easier to manage temp. I started with Weber kettle grills like many people. My dad used kettle grills when I was growing up. I have fond memories of them but have been very happy with my Egg these last 11 years. I had a nice Weber Genesis gas grill in the early 2000s but never really grooved on gas for grilling. Gas is fine for vacations or in a pinch, but I have a gas range in the kitchen, and the weather is often better indoors, so what’s the point. I prefer lump charcoal and ceramics for the back yard.
Great video.
Hi Thanks for watching and sharing the memories. Thats what BBQ is al about.creating memories. I agreewith your gas comment, gas is for heating my shower not cooking outdoor. hihi
You used better fuel with the BGE than you did with the Weber. Why did you use different fuel when you did this direct comparison?
Hi uga83joe, i used the best fuel for both. The coconut briquettes burn longer in the weber than Lump. the kettle is just way less fuel efficient, plus weber and SnS both recommend briquettes for the kettle
I have used gas forever and started shopping for charcoal grills. I’ve narrowed it down to a big green egg OR a Weber master touch with vortex and slow n sear attachments. Needless to say, a huge price difference between the two but either would be awesome.
I think I will take your idea and just get both! (Eventually)
Hi Richie, sounds like a great idea. My tip would be to start with the Weber Mastertouch and all the accessoires like the SnS and Vortex etc. It's a great way to start understanding the basics and perfecting your skill. This will greatly benefit you once you buy the BGE Large. Good luck and keep grilling
Forget the reverse sear, where did the table come from?
I use the same method for lighting my Weber. But found out it works even better without the special attachment for lighting barbecues.
This isn’t a grill vs grill video. It is a coconut charcoal vs lump charcoal video. I always use lump charcoal it is king
Hi David, My aim for this test was to use the fuel that each manufacturer deems as is the best for the grill. and i agree with you, lump is also my preference
Shame u didn't use the same fuel to cook them with, would have made it a better test
Hi David, I understand where your coming from. My reasoning for not doing this was that the Weber kettle and SnS are supposed to work with briquettes and the BGE with Lump Charcoal. Its part of the difference between the two BBQ's. Hope this helps you understand. Thanks for viewing, hope you subscribed :-)
A special request: pizza cook off please!
Both using lump!
Thanks and subscribed.
Hi raymond, excellent suggestion! I got more ideas for comparing both but ill definitely do this one in the near future!
Can’t wait QBees!
BTW, I’ve seen people use wood with lump to increase the temp of the kettle.
How long did it take both grills to heat up to searing temp sir?
Thanks!
The BGE get there a lot quicker and higher, the Weber needs about 30 minutes (unassisted) if i use my blower is happens quicker. But if you purely look on the cookers performance in this aspect than a kamado style cooker is far superior.
Thanks!
No smoke flavor due to charcoal choice I believe
Hi Peter, You are right. The absence of the smokeness comes to fuel. In this case i believe that a kettle is not intended to be used with charcoal but with Briquettes. Its just my opinion. So naturally the food tastes different. When the weather turns for the better i'll do more of these. Thanks for watching
@@QbeesBBQBakery I’ve used lump in my kettle and it works ok, less control over the heat and doesn’t burn consistently.
When heating up the weber, should the (lid) vents been wide open and placed on the charcoal side for maximum heat? Just a thought.
Yes
I am glad you are not the scientist at the blood bank.
What size BGE is this?
Hi there, i have a Large BGE
Love your grill cart! How did you mount the Weber with the lid holder attached? All others I've seen have been without.
Hi Dan, I'll make a video on how the cart was made
Did you make the video yet? I want to build a cart.
Did you make the table?
hi rob, yes i did. i will be doing a video on how i did it. (if you like that.) thanks for watching
On the flank steak cooked on the BIG Green Egg, did you sear it on both sides. I might have missed you turning it over, Thanks.
hi richard, yes i did! 😊
Nice soft voice, to bad I can’t hear it. Which I’m not watching it. Good luck…
thanks for the feedback, i am still learning to improve. Hope the next ones are better.
