    Great video and pretty much everything you said is why I ended up getting the Weightman over an acaia. I guess the only complaint is that it can't be charged and uses a battery but I've been using it for over a year and have not needed to replace it yet.

    It's cheap, has a timer and measures down to 0.1g? I'm sold.

    Yup, I've been using the Weightman scale with my Cafelat Robot for about a year and it works great. I considered switching to the Wacaco Exagram but that one has a well-known issue where the batteries don't stay seated and if they move around at all the Exagram loses it's tare setting when the battery voltage fluctuates. I also had the GreaterGoods scale and I think it was slower and less convenient than the Weightman. So really, the only better scale that fits under the robot is the Acaia Pyxis, which costs about 15 times more.

    Had a neowiegh for a couple of months and then it got wet and died ☹️. Using a greater goods pocket scale now and I agree I hate having the display on the side. One thing that I do like more with the greater goods scale than the Neowiegh is that the greater goods scale has an auto off function, which for some they may not like that feature, but for me just using it for espresso I like it.

    My first Weightman has never been the same after I had a major spill on it. The tare button stopped working and the scale value sometimes just randomly starts decreasing. I ended up buying another one because I definitely still think it's a great value, but just wanted to warn people that they're not SUPER water-resistant.
    The physical buttons are such a huge plus though, even if they can fail like mine did. One of my friends gifted me a Timemore Black Mirror, but I haaate the touch buttons.

      Purchased mine Feb 2021 and it recently started getting spills due to more turbo shots. This week the timer button went on it and like you I purchased another one because it’s been a pleasure to use.

    Thank you for this - I have a small discontinued Salter scale that I use for my robot as its one of the only scales that fits under. I have been using my phone to time and then swapping back and forth between the two. Defo picking one of these up!

    There are other model names for these as well like EDO and JoeFrex but sadly here in Germany they are between 35€ and 45€ (about the same in $) so not as affordable.

    Great review Brian. Pretty much matched my experience. They’re the only reasonably priced scale which fit easily under the Robot, and they work great with the Nomad too. They’re also good for travelling, and both of mine have survived major spillages! The only addition I’d like to see is USB C charging.

    • @NoZenith

      Something cheap like this would probably have very unreliable electronics inside. By keeping It basic with AAA batteries the life expectancy and reliability is probably better … otherwise you're gonna spend a lot more money for an integrated battery with usb c charging

    Bought this scale (the Neoweigh iteration) based on the last video, and the only issue I have is that the capacity is only 1000g, so brewing a 500mL pour-over on a Fellow Insulated Carafe surpassed the weight limit. Otherwise a perfect scale, especially for smaller brews and my Cafelat Robot.

    • @jpjay1584
      @jpjay1584 2 роки тому

      agree, 1000g can be tricky. sometimes we pack a lot of stuff onto them.
      so its ok to use it for Espresso.

      @@jpjay1584 what’s the problem to tare everything on scales before brewing? Can’t quite catch the problem…

    • @StartCodonUST
      @StartCodonUST 2 роки тому +1

      @@somethingspecial6111 So, even if you tare, you can't put more than 1000g of stuff on the scale. I've done a couple pour-overs where my scale measures less than 500g, but the scale starts reading EEEEE when I've put more than 1 kg on the scale.

    • @StartCodonUST
      @StartCodonUST 2 роки тому +1

      It actually means that I have to use lighter cups even when brewing a 250 mL pour-over. Another consideration would be for Americanos, where using the method of placing a cup of hot water under the espresso machine may not work. You'd probably have to brew into an espresso cup and then pour it into the cup of hot water.

    You don't by chance have Eneloop rechargeables in the Weightman and fresh alkalines in the Neoweigh? I have both as well, and the screen brightness seems heavily dependent on voltage. Fresh alkalines are over 1.5v and Eneloops top out at around 1.4v. For me, the screen is brighter on whichever doesn't have the rechargeables. Not that it matters too much, only one is available for purchase anyways!

    Brian, is that preheating cup you have for your Robot? Can you tell me where you found that? I don't preheat mine mostly because it's a bit a pain to do with minimal water and no dripping (like with the Aeropress seal in the spouts method). Thanks for this video though, it's definitely a useful scale!
