You are so right about this claim noncontact voltage tester. I have one in each of my tool bags. I have given them to my nephews when they do electrical work in their own homes. I want to keep them safe. This device is so necessary if you’re doing any electrical work at all.
Thanks a bunch! I have to replace or... Troubleshoot a disposal. Before I do anything I wanted to make sure it was getting power. Like your light bulb example! I appreciate you!
The video explains very well. The voltage test pen is still necessary. I bought a renhotecic brand test pen not long ago. The test is very convenient, accurate and safe. Family must.
I need to get one of these for a wire I found near a old shed that feel and the wires are caped but I need to see if any of switches in the house turn it off or if its linked to the main power to the house.
There are clones out there going for cheap and can make sound and show graphs. I bought one. Definitely a handy tool. Before I was scare of dealing with switches, breakers, and outlets. This sure is a safety measure.
Is there a beep feature on your model? I have the NCVT-1.. It beeps pretty loud repeatedly along with the red light flashing but sometimes only one beep but most of the time continuously and it doesn't stop until you pull away.. Which by the way your link seems to be upgraded from your NCVT-2 to the NCVT-3 Also mine does not have any selection for different voltage but it does say on the side sensitivity ranch 50-1000 V also mine only has a power button which can unfortunately be very easily bumped! And I think I remember receiving a notice from Amazon that my model was recalled lol
This came with my new Dewalt multimeter and I didn’t know what to do with it. I thought it was very cool going around the kitchen touching it to the Keurig wire, the air fryer, etc. But then I touched it to a mixer that was not plugged in and it gave me a positive reading. What’s up with that?
This tester does not tell you if you have power in the outlet or a switch. It tells you there's voltage on the line, but you can have perfectly good reading ,indicating good line and the outlet does not power anything. Easy test proves the pen is not a tool to detect power in the wire- rub the tip of the pen against any plastic bag. It will glow red and chirp( if the function is present). Needless to say , the wattage shown is minuscule. If the live wire got shorted under the screw in an outlet and there is an oxide/carbon build-up on the wire, the pen will show you a perfectly good outlet, which cannot power anything. But keeping in mind all the limitations, a useful gadget
@@FrankBenlin It works, but you get spurious results which are probably not its fault but rather due to dead wires affected by nearby fields from hot ones. So some effort is required to get clarity, which can be frustrating. BUT, I should add, false negatives are surely impossible.
Never at work with out it but I have found the one with the flashligt to be very handy. Soon after you start carrying it around it power cycles and beeps in your pocket. I think the battery spring just needs to be more robust. Sometimes a small washer helps for a while.
I think 70 to 1000 is automatic whereas 12 to 1000 is manual. So if your looking for an accurate reading I'd go with the 12 to 1000. This will pick up all voltage even faintest ones. Thr automatic will focus on thr dangerous voltage m3wnint it will ignore anything below the threshold. I would recommend manual one. But please don't take my word. Do your own research before testing out.
I came to try understand meaning of different sounds and different flashes since there is no English description. But you don't have it too. Yes and it is 1 year ago. Everything is changing so fast.
Do not sleep on these. Just turned the power off to what I thought was the entire room I was working in and like the rookie I am, I got a nasty shock. Don't take any chances with wall power.
can i see the circuit of this device? i am making a project and i am going to do the same of this device. Can you open it up and send me your photo? Unfortunately I can't find it google.
ua-cam.com/video/g7HWBfeawJ4/v-deo.html yours appears to be silent and the red light is not flashing looks like the NCVT-2? I wish you would've put the model number since there are several of these this link explains all the different models of Klein voltage testers.. i'm going to get the NCVT4 with thermometer.. BTW in this video the NCVT -2 does beep.. Is there a way to turn off the beeping?
These are banned in the UK in most industrial settings as they do not work on some cables such as SWA and the only approved method for testing for dead is prove the tester, test all power sources including earth and neutral. Then prove the tester again. This is standard in the UK but non contact testers and volt test screwdrivers are banned for safety reasons
On internal cables yes, on external armord cables no, sometimes they flag in dead cables with transient voltages such as RF but as they are not dependable and UK voltage is 230v they are not used, only volt testers such as fluke are used to verify the voltage with a lo-Z meter and in industry meters are always tested with a check box before and after testing

There is a clone I like, thinking about getting it. How is yours
Thanks for the upload !
Fun bonus, it will also detect if an ionizer found on many air purifiers is actually running.
Great video and thanks for sharing. Would this pen work to check for a live wire with higher voltage (240) on something like a hot water heater?
Very helpful. Thanks
thanks for watching
Great video. I’m sure I’m correct on this, but for future videos on this product, consider clarifying what the colors indicate.
I like the one that also has a plug in on the othet side that tells you if its wired correctly.
Thank you

Great share, brother!
Why is the water proof one cheaper
These are nice for tracing wires and checking outlets but if you can check voltage with a meter always do that first.
yes checking the voltage is something else. This thing can test if the wire is live right through the jacket.
Very good information. Tks
thank you for watching
i put the tester up about a meter next to my wall and it started beeping hard. what could be in my walls that extend the range by a couple feet?
What do the different colors mean??? There are different lights from different breakers. Doesn't matter if it I turn off the main fuse or not
What about for mechanical use ? Relays all that good stuff

Can test car fuses
Thanks for the review. It was very useful. Just to add the one I brought has a vibrate function as well.
dont let the wife borrow it
@Flannel Guy DIY no worries 👍. House we brought has a lot of redundant cable throw under the flooring will be a good safety asset.
how to order
I have this tool. Can't figure out why it can go from green on the right to blue on the left.
What is suggest tester for so much wires in a large box if test single wire has power with insulation with so much wire cross each other
I suggest turning off all of the breakers until ALL of the wires in the box do not have power going through them
Show a demo with the light bulb!!!!!
4:22 That’s the most useful test of all. In a minute I’m driving over to Harbor Freight to get their 5$ NCVT and see if it’s worth a crap.

Right on
could this be used to detect if there's a wire in the wall? (so you don't drill a hole there?)
no, for that you need a different device which I also made a video on
First time on your channel. Very confused ... You aren't wearing any flannel!
I wear flannel in the majority of the videos... except when it is hot AF like it was when I filmed that day. Thanks for watching!
🤣
Will a detector like this register voltage from a dryer outlet?
it will detect the current but will not tell you the actual number of volts

yes
Can you use it testing car fuse box
yes you can
Can this pick up possible voltage that may have leaked into water i.e. swimming pool etc..?
no
Will this tester work with an electric fence? The ground side is the ground right?
not sure...

yes I have used it for that

it cannot detect Where the break is

Yes it should work but safer with a volt tester such as a fluke T90

This tool shows you how much electrical radiation you are exposed to every day!😮
Why don’t I hear any beeping sound?
You didn't test the light bulb for us.
More like camera “operator” failure, … lmbo!!!

Take the batteries out when not using, if the batteries leak they will swell and you can't get them out and your tester will be ruined.
Mine is not green it's red
So green is good and red is bad
Depends on what you want to see😅
We don't need the first 47 seconds
that is a bonus that I did not charge extra for

there are times when it is just too hot.
Too much talking and not a lot off teaching.
