Rotherham's Abandoned Millmoor Ground

The Millmoor ground was the home ground of Rotherham County fc, between 1907 and 1925. There successor Rotherham United fc had the ground until 2008, redevelopment work had started on the new stand and was due to be complete by 2006, but a number of setbacks including Japanese knotweed being found meant the stand was only ever half built. In May 2008 Rotherham United left the stadium to play in the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield until 2012, they then moved back to Rotherham into the New York Stadium at the cost of £20million. We sneaked in for a look even though there was a security car and van parked at the front entrance, bushes had started to take over the turnstile entrances and alot of the walkways behind the stands, we found the control room starting to fall apart inside, a police detention room which had old cells inside, the home and away dugouts still in decent condition, the goals were still up with rotting netting attached, and the grass seemed to still be cut even though the grass was just all weeds like a cabbage patch. And a memorial clock for Derek Dalton frozen in time at 10.36.

Interesting to see the current state of Millmoor, where I spent many years following the Millers from 1957 onwards. Sad to see it semi-derelict. Frustrating that the camera work is often so poor - too fast panning couple with jumpy shots spoils it but it's a useful post. Thanks for contributing it.

Where were the security when you guys were in the main stand? Looked like you wanted to keep a low profile.

Think there in main building to the front, in one of the side windows at front theyve got a dummy dressed as security tho haha
