  • One of the most common objections of a paver patio is the assumption that weeds are going to grow through the joints. Following these simple steps will ensure that you do not experience this.

This is a nice overview! I have a crappy old deck and I want to replace it with a paver patio, but I'm an amateur. I'd really like to see this all done in greater detail - like, the practical to go with the theory. There are particular things I'd like to know more about:
0:10 How do you go about digging out the foundation? You probably use something more efficient than just a shovel, right? And how deep does it go?
0:19 What kind of compactor do you use? I don't know know what's a good one and what's underpowered. How do you know when you've compacted it enough?
0:30 What fabric, and is there a particular way to install it well?
0:55 How thick is this bedding course?
1:03 What's an ideal pitch, and how do you accurately grade it?
1:14 When laying pavers, do you butt them directly against each other, or intentionally leave a specific gap?
1:57 I'd like to see the roller-compactor, and know if there are any specific protips to using it well.

I feel like if I compact the soil waaaay to much, I would be creating a barrier for rain water to do disperse naturally into the ground. But at the same time I do feel like it needs to be really compacted so the the pavers don’t move around. I’m scared because I don’t want to redo the whole thing.

To what total thickness do you recommend laying the base stone layer? Does the thickness vary based on the size of the pavers?
It would be helpful for novices like myself if you included pictures of what you consider a "chintzy compactor" and what you consider to have "serious horse to it"
