@@fabril2673 absolutely, one of my favorite songs of all time in general. I'd also add jacquard causeway and poppy seed (reprise) to this list if I were to do it now.
Tie between Julie and candy and 1969 for me, Julie and candy has one of the warmest feelings of any song I've heard 1969 is strange in the best way possible
Here's my Top 10, from an upcoming blog of mine. #10: Roygbiv We start this list off with perhaps one of the most popular and most loved Boards Of Canada songs of all time, Roygbiv... And while I can't say it's my all time favourite, it's definitely grown on me, especially recently. The happy melody in it just can't fail to cheer you up. #9: Rue the Whirl Just like Roygbiv, Rue The Whirl comes from Boards Of Canada's most loved album, Music Has The Right To Children. Another classic, but what really makes this song unique is the elevating flute synth playing throughout the song, which evokes a feeling of nostalgic Deja vu inside me, like I've heard the sample from somewhere before but I don't know where. Great stuff. #8: Satellite Anthem Icarus There's a lot of things I like about this song, starting with the coastline sample in the beginning, the two flute-y notes that occasionally play during the song, the vocal samples, and of course, the sounds at the end of each section that turn into an increasingly intense climbing synth. #7: White Cyclosa Probably my favourite Tomorrow's Harvest song, which is weird because the results on the poll of a Boards Of Canada wiki showed this song to be one of the least liked Tomorrow's Harvest songs... But I can't help it. I love the gloomy structure of this song. The pianos are great too. #6: Opening the Mouth I don't even know where to begin with this song. I mean what the hell is it? The wind noises, the eerie flutes, the whispering vocals in this song... It's short but it packs a lot of power, and shows just how genius the album Geogaddi is. It's a strange song that's gone somewhere nobody has ever gone before. #5: Smokes Quantity Another Music Has The Right To Children song that's been growing on me recently. This one has a atmospheric, almost piano-like synth opening the song and plays throughout. But what really gets me in this song is the very subtle use of the Dutch civil defense siren that comes in at around 1:30. #4: 1969 Holy hell... That chord progression. I'm a sucker for good chord progressions and this song hits me right in the sweet spot in that endeavor. But that's not the only great thing in this song. The subtle wind audio effect that increases and decreases in pitch throughout the song, and the sample saying "1969, in the sunshine" and more add to this song. Definitely one I come back to a lot. #3: Olson Ah my favorite Music Has The Right To Children song. Another short but big song. It's so simple but yet it's the first of its kind. Everything from the increasing bass-ish pads in the beginning to the piano at the end and everything inbetween... It makes for a timeless song. #2: Beware the Friendly Stranger Of course I couldn't make a Top 10 Boards Of Canada list without including the song that introduced me to Boards Of Canada. (No I didn't find it through Salad Fingers, I found it through a now removed UA-cam video featuring Espurr with this song in the background, but I digress.) When I first heard this I was like "What is this weird hybrid experimental classical song and where can I find more of it?"... I'm glad it was this song that introduced me to them, cause otherwise I might never have become interested. Everything of this short song, from the synths to the low quality fire crackling with a playground in the background sample, it's just weird but it works so well. #1: Dawn Chorus Man there's so much I could say about this song. Like the fact that the pitch isn't constant like in most songs, but instead wobbles around ever so slightly, adding to the atmosphere of the song, to the vague vocal samples that nobody can agree what it originated from, to the looping violins, to the synths, to the unintelligible chorus singing that comes in at around 2:30 to the overall trippy, almost ice-cream van-esque feel of the song. This song may not be for everyone, but then again most of their song aren't. If you aren't an Electronica fan with a taste for the weird and wonderful, than this song and band isn't for you. For me though, this is where it's at. Consider me a fan.

My favourite of all time from BOC "Echus" form "Live @ ATP" album is not even in honorable mentions :) It has some magical "I want to be there in that moment with those people" feeling for me.
I discovered Boards of Canada in 2004, thanks to David Firth’s '"Salad Fingers" Flash Cartoons. I hunted down most of their albums and EP’s and listened to them on a regular basis all the way to 2006 when the "Trans Canada Highway" EP was released. Then slowly I lost interest in them, until 2013, when Tomorrow's Harvest was released. At that time I was listening to a lot of “alternative” electronic music, and BOC sounded like “a blast from the past” in my mix. They slipped from my mind again, until you started your review series. Based on this “Top 10” video I decided to order a copy of “Warp20(Unheard)” Because “Seven Forty Seven” sounds really nice. When that disc comes in the mail I’m going to make a playlist starting with the “Beware The Friendly Stranger” Interlude, then your top 10 and fill it up with your HM. Looking forward to rediscovering this music!
Awesome list. Also good to see you don't compromise their predictability for the "hipster"-factor; if a famous, obvious track is your favorite, it's your favorite period. I agree with many of the placements, though 747 and Satellite Anthem Icarus are not that impacful for me. Turquoise Hexagon Sun and Red Moss would be musts, and some of the atmospheric interludes, like Olson and Semena Mertvykh aswell.

As you were going down the list I was very pleased to find out I agree with you in almost all the tracks , glad to see Im bot the only crazy one here lol . I must say that BoC is an incredibly moody experience so my favorite tracks always change depending on ny mood or nostalgic levels on a particular day . However your listing include the ussual suspects . I appreciate your videos thank you . greetings from the Bay Area CA

You stumped me at the end i thought it was going to be Peacock Tail haha. I definitely could not make a top ten because i practically enjoy every BoC track but there are some that stick out like Peacock Tail, Julie and Candy, Sixtyten, Transmisiones Ferox etc.. even the live unknown track at the end of the Warp 10th anniversary party is insanely good (the vocoded synth like voice is mental). btw if you have any time you can enjoy some of the Boards Of Canada remixes and videos i made on my channel. cheers
many people will probably not agree with me, but this is my personal top 10 based on the feelings I get from them, not substantively on the used techniques etc. 10. Amo Bishop Roden 9. Buckie High 8. Whitewater 7. Everything you do is a balloon 6. Roygbiv 5. Macquarie Ridge 4. Echus 3. Heard from Telegraph Lines 2. Rodox Video 1. Olson
A few months ago a friend asked me to name a few of my favorite BoC tracks so he could get a feel for them. It was a horrible struggle to narrow it down. I see now the answer is to get somebody who's not that into BoC to pick them, because I'm just gonna be honest - personal favorites aside (Dawn Chorus, Spiro, Flash Mix), your list is really fantastic.
1. In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country 2. Everything You Do Is A Balloon 3. Mr Mistake - BOC Remix(with vocals) 4. Kid For Today 5. Olson (MHTRTC version) 6. Open The Light 7. ROYGBIV 8. Good Friday - BOC Remix 9. Dawn Chorus 10. Dead Dogs Two - BOC Remix

The only BoC album I've heard is Geogaddi, and parts of Tommorow's Harvest but I can already call them one of my fav bands. I often listen to it while I draw. 😀 Also, In my opinion, I didn't find Geogaddi creepy. Tomorrow's Harvest is creepier to me. :)
Geogaddi is my favorite of their albums, but it totally haunted me and creeped me out for a solid 6 months. I guess the more I listened to it, the more I read into the weird sounds and titles. Freaked me out

my fave is either Chromakey Dreamcoat from Campfire (the chord progression is my favourite of all time) or In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country because it's so haunting
1 Peacock Tail 2 Everything you do is a balloon 3 An eagle in your mind 4 Kid for today 5 Sixtyten 6 Turqouise Hexagon Sun 7 Seeya later 8 Happy Cycling 9 Left side drive 10 Aquaris
My favourite has to be Nothing is Real. One of the most starkly haunting, desolate pieces of music I've ever heard. It feels like some murky post-apocalyptic nostalgia towards a previously long-forgotten time.
I just wanted to mention Sixtyten somewhere in the comments, since I think nobody has yet. I think Alpha and Omega and Sixtyten have my favourite beats. Roygbiv, Dayvan Cowboy, and Everything You Do is a Balloon have my favourite melodies. Aquarius and Left Side Drive have my favourite chords. But Reach for the Dead starts out with good chords, then adds a good melody and finally a good beat, so it's on all of my lists. Edit: let's put Oscar See Through Red Eye on here too. It's on my best chords list, but its sporadic use of effects is what makes it stand out.
10. 1969 9. Smokes Quantity 8. Nlogax 7. Chromakey Dreamcoat 6. Roygbiv 5. June 9th 4. Everything You Do Is A Balloon 3. Alpha and Omega 2. Sick Times 1. Peacock Tail

I have similar feelings towards BOC, but I still think that their discography is incredibly solid. I have listened to all their material at this point so here is my humble list. 10. Alpha and Omega 9. Sherbet Head 8. Turquoise Hexagon Sun 7. Satellite Anthem Icarus 6. Gemini 5. The Devil is in The Details 4. Nothing is Real 3. Happy Cycling 2. Everything You Do is a Balloon 1. Im surprised no ones mentioning telephasic workshop. As soon as I heard it, it was instantly one of the best electronic songs I've ever heard. That & Kaini industries are my two favorites oddly enough
found myself agreeing with all your picks. Then I went over my winamp playlist. I don't think there is a single track I dislike. It's all genuinely good, not just passable - good. Some tracks are excellent, but which ones tend to fluctuate.
top 20, not sure if i could fit all of my favorite tracks into a top 10. i also may combine tracks onto the same ranking if i feel that they rank the same as each other 20. Just found your channel and, seeing as you've reviewed almost all of my favourite albums, you've earned a sub! Bit of a secret tip by the way: you probably won't want to review it since it's fairly obscure, but you should check out the album "Lilypad Lady" by Meerkat. It's a free download on his website, just google it. Found it years ago and it's been one of my favourites since :) I also have two or three actual album review requests: James Holden - The Idiots Are Winning and the two Noisia albums (spoiler: they're both 10/10s)
I agree with many of your choices here but it would be really hard for me to make a concrete list. All I know is that Roygbiv is my favorite BoC track of all time. Why I like it so much I think is because it is comforting and nostalgic while looking positively towards the future, instead of simply longing for the past. This might also have to do with its placement in Music Has the Right, coming after more chilly, foreboding tracks like An Eagle in Your Mind and Sixtyten. It's kind of a turning point in the album, and even though there are some darker points like Smokes Quantity that follow, it marks a general change in the mood.
1: Roygbiv 2: An Eagle in your mind 3: Everything you do is a balloon 4: Happy Cycling 5: Dayvan Cowboy 6: Music is Math 7: Reach for the dead 8: Julie and Candy 9: Peacock Tail 10: Chromakey Dreamcoat

Sleep Mix by naked flames on YT is a BOC mix I must’ve came back to hundreds of times over the past few years. No drum tracks on it, or have been cut before the beat comes in. Highly recommend if you want to get lost in their melody. Also, don’t be “sleeping” on Orange Romeda my dude.
I discovered BoC quite late, probably around early to mid 2018 but as of now these 10 songs would be my favs (in no particular order) Diving Station 1969 Buckie High Breaking Nehushtan Spectrum Whitewater Sequoia Split Your Infinities June 9th Dawn Chorus
mine is probably 10: an eagle in your mind 9: sunshine recorder 8: kid for today 7: 84 pontiac dream 6: 5.9.78 5: happy cycling 4: gyroscope 3: over the horizon radar 2: alpha and omega 1: whitewater
I don't know. I don't look at BOC as having best songs because most are a part of a whole. Some tracks can be viewed as 'stand-alone' and for me, they are in no order: 1. See ya later 2. Dawn Chorus 3. Reach for the dead 4. Olson 5. Dayvan Cowboy. 6. Twoism 7. Tears from the compound eye 8. Everything you do.............. 9. Gyroscope 10. Beach at Redpoint.. @@fabril2673 absolutely, one of my favorite songs of all time in general. I'd also add jacquard causeway and poppy seed (reprise) to this list if I were to do it now.
At the moment my favorite is Julie and candy from Geogaddi.
Subarctic Paradise. I like that song too.
Funny seeing you here!
Tie between Julie and candy and 1969 for me, Julie and candy has one of the warmest feelings of any song I've heard 1969 is strange in the best way possible
Here's my Top 10, from an upcoming blog of mine.
#10: Roygbiv
We start this list off with perhaps one of the most popular and most loved Boards Of Canada songs of all time, Roygbiv... And while I can't say it's my all time favourite, it's definitely grown on me, especially recently. The happy melody in it just can't fail to cheer you up.
#9: Rue the Whirl
Just like Roygbiv, Rue The Whirl comes from Boards Of Canada's most loved album, Music Has The Right To Children. Another classic, but what really makes this song unique is the elevating flute synth playing throughout the song, which evokes a feeling of nostalgic Deja vu inside me, like I've heard the sample from somewhere before but I don't know where. Great stuff.
#8: Satellite Anthem Icarus
There's a lot of things I like about this song, starting with the coastline sample in the beginning, the two flute-y notes that occasionally play during the song, the vocal samples, and of course, the sounds at the end of each section that turn into an increasingly intense climbing synth.
#7: White Cyclosa
Probably my favourite Tomorrow's Harvest song, which is weird because the results on the poll of a Boards Of Canada wiki showed this song to be one of the least liked Tomorrow's Harvest songs... But I can't help it. I love the gloomy structure of this song. The pianos are great too.
#6: Opening the Mouth
I don't even know where to begin with this song. I mean what the hell is it? The wind noises, the eerie flutes, the whispering vocals in this song... It's short but it packs a lot of power, and shows just how genius the album Geogaddi is. It's a strange song that's gone somewhere nobody has ever gone before.
#5: Smokes Quantity
Another Music Has The Right To Children song that's been growing on me recently. This one has a atmospheric, almost piano-like synth opening the song and plays throughout. But what really gets me in this song is the very subtle use of the Dutch civil defense siren that comes in at around 1:30.
#4: 1969
Holy hell...
#3: Olson
Ah my favorite Music Has The Right To Children song. Another short but big song. It's so simple but yet it's the first of its kind. Everything from the increasing bass-ish pads in the beginning to the piano at the end and everything inbetween... It makes for a timeless song.
#2: Beware the Friendly Stranger
Of course I couldn't make a Top 10 Boards Of Canada list without including the song that introduced me to Boards Of Canada.
#1: Dawn Chorus
Man there's so much I could say about this song.
Skewb Historian my top are very similar like you
I think my most surprising picks in my top few is probably Zander Two and On A Rolling Sea

Buckie High is just perfect.
Then slowly I lost interest in them, until 2013, when Tomorrow's
Harvest was released.
I have a request for a "discography review". Squarepusher.
YES!

Roygbiv was predictable but that song heals your fucking soul. I really mean it.
You stumped me at the end i thought it was going to be Peacock Tail haha. I definitely could not make a top ten because i practically enjoy every BoC track but there are some that stick out like Peacock Tail, Julie and Candy, Sixtyten, Transmisiones Ferox etc.. even the live unknown track at the end of the Warp 10th anniversary party is insanely good (the vocoded synth like voice is mental).
btw if you have any time you can enjoy some of the Boards Of Canada remixes and videos i made on my channel.
cheers
Anyone with 'Telephasic Workshop' at any spot other than number one needs to give up listening to music. Forever.
I think that way about farewell fire 😊
My all time favorite BoC track is Kiteracer 2, one of the most amazing tracks I've ever heard.
TheGreatGoob Come to daddy
Agreed
Yes!
many people will probably not agree with me, but this is my personal top 10 based on the feelings I get from them, not substantively on the used techniques etc.

5. Macquarie Ridge
4. Echus

2. Rodox Video
1. In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country
2. Everything You Do Is A Balloon
3. Mr Mistake - BOC Remix(with vocals)
4. Kid For Today
5. Olson (MHTRTC version)

The only BoC album I've heard is Geogaddi, and parts of Tommorow's Harvest but I can already call them one of my fav bands. I often listen to it while I draw. 😀
Also, In my opinion, I didn't find Geogaddi creepy. Tomorrow's Harvest is creepier to me. :)
Why don't you listen to more of them!
Since then, I've listened to MHTRTC, The rest of Tommorow's Harvest, and the Hi Scores and In a beautiful place out in the country EPs.
Geogaddi is my favorite of their albums, but it totally haunted me and creeped me out for a solid 6 months. I guess the more I listened to it, the more I read into the weird sounds and titles. Freaked me out
Have you listened to campfire headphase yet?

(6) Xyz (7) Smokes quantity (8) Aquarius (9) Twoism (10) Over the horizon radar
This is… a very solid list. After your intro I thought it would be very random ones, but at least 5 of these I would put on a list too
my fave is either Chromakey Dreamcoat from Campfire (the chord progression is my favourite of all time) or In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country because it's so haunting
1 Peacock Tail
2 Everything you do is a balloon
3 An eagle in your mind
4 Kid for today
5 Sixtyten
6 Turqouise Hexagon Sun
7 Seeya later
8 Happy Cycling
9 Left side drive
10 Aquaris
10. 1969
9. Smokes Quantity
8. Nlogax
7. Chromakey Dreamcoat
6. Roygbiv
5. June 9th
4. Everything You Do Is A Balloon
3. Alpha and Omega
2. Sick Times
1. Peacock Tail
I would've added You Could Feel The Sky, Oirectine and Reach For The Dead, but you pretty much nailed it otherwise.
I mean- You Could Feel The Sky made it to the to semi-finals in his madness bracket.
My Fav BOC Songs.
10- Gyroscope
Basically, The Mysterious Buzzing And The Nice Drums Add It All Up.
9- Magic Window
Basically A Gasp Of Relief. Still Love It.
8- Julie & Candy
The Intro And The Vocals Make It A Very Noice Song. I Like The Outro.
7-A Is To B is to C
Best Especially In Reversed. Nice Chill Track.
6-Untitled Web Loop
Beautiful And Outstanding.
5- Roy G biv
Amazing Track, Amazing Drums & Amazing Bass.
4-I Saw Drones
I Don't Know What To Tell You About This Track.
3-White Cyclosa
Strange, Eerie, Empty. Just the way I Like it.
2-Happy Cycling, Whitewater, Nlogax, Alpha & Omega And Dandelion
They Might Be, The Best Track In Each Of Them.

6. Gemini
5. The Devil is in The Details

Im surprised no ones mentioning telephasic workshop. As soon as I heard it, it was instantly one of the best electronic songs I've ever heard. That & Kaini industries are my two favorites oddly enough
I’m fucking saying that song is a such a ride
found myself agreeing with all your picks. Then I went over my winamp playlist. I don't think there is a single track I dislike. It's all genuinely good, not just passable - good. Some tracks are excellent, but which ones tend to fluctuate.
top 20, not sure if i could fit all of my favorite tracks into a top 10. i also may combine tracks onto the same ranking if i feel that they rank the same as each other

8. Sixtyninner
9. In a Beautiful Place Out of The Country (Full EP as a whole thing)
10. Tommorow's Harvest (Full album as a whole thing)
My favourite is probably either Gyroscope or Beware the Friendly Stranger
Just found your channel and, seeing as you've reviewed almost all of my favourite albums, you've earned a sub!
Bit of a secret tip by the way: you probably won't want to review it since it's fairly obscure, but you should check out the album "Lilypad Lady" by Meerkat. It's a free download on his website, just google it. Found it years ago and it's been one of my favourites since :)
I also have two or three actual album review requests:
James Holden - The Idiots Are Winning
and the two Noisia albums (spoiler: they're both 10/10s)
I agree with many of your choices here but it would be really hard for me to make a concrete list. All I know is that Roygbiv is my favorite BoC track of all time. Why I like it so much I think is because it is comforting and nostalgic while looking positively towards the future, instead of simply longing for the past. This might also have to do with its placement in Music Has the Right, coming after more chilly, foreboding tracks like An Eagle in Your Mind and Sixtyten. It's kind of a turning point in the album, and even though there are some darker points like Smokes Quantity that follow, it marks a general change in the mood.
huh, I always thought that the kid on roygbiv was saying 'lake'
I always understood "Laid" which is quite disturbing...
the kid is saying lake hahah, it's a sesame street sample
@@froggycontrol8059 why don't you have a seat right in that stool

Sleep Mix by naked flames on YT is a BOC mix I must’ve came back to hundreds of times over the past few years. No drum tracks on it, or have been cut before the beat comes in. Highly recommend if you want to get lost in their melody. Also, don’t be “sleeping” on Orange Romeda my dude.
I discovered BoC quite late, probably around early to mid 2018 but as of now these 10 songs would be my favs (in no particular order)
Diving Station
1969
Buckie High
Breaking Nehushtan

I don't know. I don't look at BOC as having best songs because most are a part of a whole.
Some tracks can be viewed as 'stand-alone' and for me, they are in no order:
1. See ya later
2. Dawn Chorus
3. Reach for the dead
4. Olson
5. Dayvan Cowboy.
6. Twoism
7. Tears from the compound eye
8. Everything you do..............
9. Gyroscope
10. Beach at Redpoint..
Too many but the sum of the parts just works.
A tier list because there are too many tracks I find equally enjoyable

Mostly really agree with your choices. Disappointed you didn’t mention ‘Olson’, though.

Roygbiv was the first BOC song I heard before I heard MHTRTC. But my favourite BOC track is Basefree from Twoism tied with Roygbiv and Happy Cycling.
The best is Beware the friendly Stranger from the Soundtrack of Salad Fingers. And also The Devil is in the Details.
Great honorable mentions :)
great list! my all time favorite will always be julie and the candy
oh and kid for today
Pete standing alone is my favorite ngl
This goes in their odds and ends section, but if you like BOC you should check out the remix they did of broken drum by beck. I like it almost as much as everything you do is a ballon.
It was featured on the guerolito album.
1969 is creepy a lot because of the Branch Davidian related vocal sample imo
Gonna call it right now, one of them is Dayvan Cowboy or Turquoise Hexagon Sun.
I knew it 🥱
