    That is a 3 ringed mini ball. Used in the civil war. It was the first.bullet used in a rifled musket. It was the reason the Napoleon tactics used in civil war battles. Shilo being the first and bloodiest demonstration of the improvements the expanding bullet in a rifled barrel. It was a leap in accuracy. But it was one of the reasons standing in a line and firing till one side had fewer men tactic ended. The next big leap came with the brass self contained cartridge. The repeater was created. The sharps rifle that wiped out the buffalo also used a similar improvement. Sadly war bring innovation. Im sure the evolution of the Indians weapons changed during times of battle. I think the bow transition from atlati spear occurred after or during the columbian exchange when disease went through the American indigenous population. Like the horse, the bow may have evolved as a more practical weopon to carry on horse.

    Your videos are so helpful for me! Could you sometime talk about tips and tricks on how to access rivers, creeks, and such when the only access you have is public access? I know people say just ask for permission from property owners, but I don't want to do that. I've sometimes found a place to park, then walk a ways to a bridge over the river, enter the river or creek, and then begin walking. What other ideas do you have for us super new newbies that will expand our location options?

    • @cleggsadventures
      @cleggsadventures  Рік тому +3

      Pamela, unless it’s public access, it’s gonna be owned by someone. I have a couple of permissions that I walk to, as in this video. But other than that, I also have to use the public access and paddle the kayak.

    Awesome video! These clear, lit up well and close up videos are so important, to me at least, for being able to study and learn the pieces and what to look for. I see my faceted hematite look more natural than purposely worked when compared to yours.Mine may have been but then tumbled longer.Who knows. I'd love to see more videos of your other pieces... the not so great and the great other artifacts. If you can spend some time doing those, that would be appreciated.

    • @cleggsadventures
      @cleggsadventures  Рік тому +2

      Look those hematite pieces over well. I’ve never found a worked hematite piece in a creek. Maybe like you said, too much tumbling. The ones I find are coming directly from under ground, falling out of the bank, so not much tumbling until they reach the water.
      I tried so hard to get good video. It’s very difficult filming alone, and I’m a bit shaky at my age. Thanks always for watching Tracy.

    • @TracyZdelar
      @TracyZdelar Рік тому

      @@cleggsadventures we are basically same age, I'll be 53 in a few months so you are not old 🤠👍. I believe where we live is near the end of where they say the glacier came through Ohio. I rarely hunt and find anything in the water. I believe all my hematite has been found via digging in my yard and at a church ground near me that was adding onto their building. I found scads of hematite there. The most I probably ever came across in one site. I may do a video and if I do I'll let you know and you can give me your opinion.

    When I find potty pieces it often times looks like it might be pieces of clay pipes like they had in the old days but I dont know for sure.
    I have found quit a few of those clay jugs that the movies show people blowing in to make music. I would find large pieces of them even the mouth part with the round part that the finger holds on to. I found an entire jug one time but it broke when I was trying to dig it up.
    I found an ancient campfire too according to the native American historian at the pow wow. All by accident. I found them when digging edible and or medicinal roots up or when having to bury a pet on the farm.
    Our land had a creek running through it that connected to a large river. The historical society and the pow wow committee had said that it was one of the most well known used encampments for the Miami Native Americans back in the day.
    I was not aware that arrowheads didnt always look like the stereotypical arrowheads. So I passed off on a lot of blades etc thinking they were not a part of the arrowhead family back then.

    • @cleggsadventures
      @cleggsadventures  2 роки тому +1
