That is such a compliment, kak! It is truly our hope and mission to enable everyone, sighted or not, to be able to read. We genuinely appreciate the support. Kindly share this app with those you know might need it. Thank you again kak for viewing this and leaving an encouraging comment!
Thank you for your kind words. We were moved by the stories of the users during our interview sessions. Their stories compelled us to make this app to help them read texts and identify money.
Hi! Thank you. Teman Netra was launched on the App Store in December 2019. There 2 other Indonesian iOS apps that are similar to NoonGil as well: Awasin (an app that helps the visually impaired identify objects and avoid obstacles within their surroundings) and Ainun (an app that helps the visually impaired identify Indonesian banknotes and recognize counterfeits). Teman Netra, Awasin, and Ainun were developed in 2019. Kindly spread the word to those who need it. Thank you kak!
A few things you need to know: 1. You’ll be surprised to know that a lot of visually impaired people own iPhones because of Apple’s great accessibility features. We saw and observed this during our user interviews. 2. Even if majority of them don’t own iPhones, this shouldn’t have hindered us from creating an app that actually helps those who are visually impaired iPhone owners. For your context, this app was invented during our time at Apple Developer Academy, so we launched Teman Netra starting with iOS platform. Instead of focusing on how some visually impaired people can’t afford an iPhone, why not celebrate that we are helping them one step at a time? Our app may not be perfect and is currently only available on iOS, but it’s better to start small than not at all. 3. Majority of the visually impaired individuals are not poor. A lot of them are independent beings who can sustain themselves financially. 4. Often, sighted people make assumptions about visually impaired people. We are here to let you all know that a lot of those assumptions (usually negative) are not all true. Hopefully all these points can shed some light about the visually impaired communities and give you a different perspective.
well done Teman Netra! I got goosebumps when you guys said "because with Teman Netra, semua orang bisa membaca". Well done well done well done!
