      I think its one thing if you’re productive. Have a job, pay rent etc. In the case of this movie they’re 40 years old, don’t have any careers, goof off all day, and just stay at home all day and jerk off to exercise videos. Thats a problem.

    I nearly died laughing the first time I saw this. I've seen it a bunch of times and it still cracks me up. The actors playing the parents, Richard Jenkins and Mary Steenburgen, they're such good dramatic actors and they play the straight characters so well against Ferrell and Reilly.

    The Cheesecake Factory is a restaurant chain that is famous for making a lot of cheesecake. They have a bar inside of them to wait at when you have to wait for a table.
    And any time you see birds flying during a combat sequence, it is a reference to the movies of a director named John Woo, who has a habit of having birds flying in the middle of combat scenes.

    John C Riley has had such a odd Hollywood career. Goofy comedies like this movie, _Talladega Nights,_ and serious roles in films like _Thin Red Line,_ and _Boogies Nights._
    There is also the great Dr. Bruel . . .

    Ha! The Cheesecake Factory is a large chain of restaurants, that I believe started here in Los Angeles, but is now like a huge corporate owned chain of restaurants, I think that are all over the US now. They have a bakery section with a display of deserts, pies, and obviously a variety of cheesecakes. Now a days, they're typically in large shopping malls, and places like that, and are known for having a huge menu that's like a book, that has pages of a large variety of different types of cuisine. It's basically one of many similar places, but that are about as fancy and adventurous dining as middle class suburban Americans eat.

    Richard Jenkins (Robert Doback) is one of my favorite actors ever. He usually plays a dad or figure of authority. You have to check out the comedy, “Flirting With Disaster” starring Ben Stiller. Even with a small amount of screen time, Jenkins makes the most of it.
    He was also the “father” in “Let Me In”, the US remake of Swedish horror film, “Let The Right One In”.

    So sad to see you took down Falling Down. I get that you felt like your "soul was destroyed" (by it), but that just means that it was a good movie with actors that really made you feel something. As you know, not all movies do that. Hopefully you'll find it within the kindness of your heart to re-up it and leave the "soul was destroyed" comment in.

    • @wolfsbane-rw7um
      @wolfsbane-rw7um 9 місяців тому +4

      Yeah but her take on it was instantly from the view the main character is just pure evil he's a psycho with no empathy toward or sympathy with why he felt the way he did or what got him to that point. She essentially grouped the main character in with a Neo Nazi like they're both the same & had no thought that perhaps the main character could have been a decent man on the verge of a breakdown who broke & just wanted to go home & met nothing but greed, anger & hate in return.
      A lot of people can relate to someone working a stressful job & maybe bringing that stress home as frustration & anger thus being on a short fuse. The wife said he never actually hurt her, maybe he would have eventually but also maybe talking it over or getting counselling could've helped him. Maybe getting away from the job that seemed to be killing him & finding something else? Nope, the solution was a restraining order & him not being able to see his child again.
      The scene with the Mother where she said something like "always blames others not himself", how does she know what kind of Mother that Woman is? Some Mothers have a horrible effect on their childrens mental health as they grow up leading to life long issues but no, we'll just assume in this case the Mother was perfect & he was the problem.
      It might have been copyright striked but the comment section was full of comments like this one, lot's of people quite surprised how cold her take on that movie was. If she's taken it down for that reason, that's a bit of a cowardly thing to do IMO as a reaction is a reaction even if many people don't like her take on it & as far as i saw the comments were still fairly respectful.

      @@wolfsbane-rw7um I reckon it probably was due tt overwhelming amount of "alternative views" re: the main character. Many commenters pointing out a possible generational divide here. From many parts of the world the comments stated that when Falling Down came out back in the day, ppl considered the man to be a tragic hero, anti-hero or at least had a fair amount of compassion for D-Fens. She's now moving on to "Black History Month".. Cheers from Amsterdam!

      @Wannabe_Baby 9 місяців тому +1

      @@wolfsbane-rw7um No, what was incredibly weird was the comments acting like he was some noble hero and getting mad at Mary for pointing out that he wasn't.
      Michael Douglas is *explicitly* the villain. 10 minutes into a movie, he's racist to a Korean store owner and smashes up his store because of one overpriced can of Coke. Just because he has a few points that the viewer can relate to doesn't justify the disproportionate retribution he dishes out. Robert Duvall blatantly states the point of the movie; not achieving your goals and being let go isn't an excuse to go on a violent rampage. You write as if the wife was unreasonable for taking out a restraining order against Foster when we see him forcibly kiss her when they meet, act like they're still together, wield guns around their child and blow up a crane with a rocket launcher.
      Bill Foster is presented as an everyman in some ways but as the movie goes on, they make it very clear that he was always unhinged. He was not a decent man, ever; his ex-wife has a restraining order against him for a reason, his own mother is terrified of him and Prendergast implies that Foster would have committed a murder-suicide had he not shown up.
