A stray black kitten used to come around and I would feed it sardines. One day I put some food out, I noticed he never came back again, I guess maybe someone stole him or it got killed. This cat reminds me of the kitten. Love olden time cartoons. .
Poor kitty.... Watches the ghosts come out. Talk about friends in high places! That bully rat back home's in for a BIG surprise when he pushes that cat too far someday...
This is the Castle Films print of a Comi-Color cartoon from in the 1940's, originally was from 1936. The version can be found in 8mm and 16mm home movie in both Headline and Complete editions and they are all silent with captions interrupted during a cartoon, and also in black & white. This version was in 16mm sound.
Corben Alley Yes it is! I finally have this cartoon on 8mm which I've got today and they are all silent, and it was in black & white. I've order it on eBay a few days ago and I've it a few days later. I watched it for the first time and it was good, but most of the explanatory slides as shown in the 8mm silent print are questionable. Castle Films did put out these silent versions of the ComiColor cartoons with questionable explanatory titles, and some are not as good as this and other ComiColor cartoons that Castle Films distributed it at the time. The cover on the Castle Films 8mm print had the wrong artwork, but the illustrations on the front and back cover of this cartoon was made by the legendary Art Bartsch of Terrytoons. He did most of the artwork for many of Castle Films versions of the ComiColor cartoons. As for this cartoon, the cover showed a cat that looked like Sourpuss from Terrytoons.
Great design and character for the cat and the rats. They really put the toon over the top.
I haven’t seen this in years
and I used to love this so much.

Cat: Whoa ( runs away)
Mouse: Get back here so
I can beat you up so hard.
I remember seeing this in an episode of Always Sunny in Philadelphia!

why don't they make this stuff nowadays!!! The BBC's CBBC Channel is really causing children intelligence levels to drop drastically!!!
snaps I've been looking everywhere for this one. thanks for uploading it.
In most cartoons, the cat is the villainous persecutor... in this one, HE'S the victim! Huh.
i had the VHS also growing up. i think it was this, a Casper Cartoon and another. I loved this and a Tale of Two Kitties as a kid.
Seeing as how this cat was scared of mice, the title should have been called "The Cowardly Cat" because he's a coward.
Im doing this for my year 6 production
The rats scared the hell out of me the first time I saw this.
I was scared of large cockroaches!
@corjonbett it did had a nine life it jumped in before. You have to look real close and you will see it.
@MultiKgiles Me too.
