- Everyone loves a good pirate story about sailing the seven seas, but this pirate story is more about the ending that takes place in -- of all places -- Lincolnton, North Carolina.
Two local authors Ashley Oliphant and Beth Yarbrough spent over two years investigating the mystery of the local legend Jean Laffite and found out some amazing information.

That's fun to see. I have Jean in my Fangs & Halos series, and the death was "faked" because he had been turned into a vampire. Fast forward to 2005 and he's a good friend of his maker, Marcus Lancaster, and when not doing things in the vampire community, he's a famous actor in Hollywood.
I live near Galveston, where he lived when he called the community "Campeche" and had Jim Bowie and his brother running captured cargo of the pirated ships into sell the captured slaves. It was quite an operation. And this is a true story out of that era before 1820. If you don't kow, Jim Bowie is also known as one of the heroes of the Alamo in San Antonio Texas. He was very ill at that time but managed to defend the room he was in until overrun.
Thanks for the story, I may have to go find the book and study up on Lincolnton NC. Thanks!
