Where did this version come from? The only previoous version I've heard of this was from Tim Hardin 3 (the live album), a much longer extended version. Where IS this one from?
This is an amazing song, which I also first heard on Nico's Chelsea Girl album. Hardin and Bruce were remarkable artists. Bruce is in my top 5 of comedians ever. And lr2025, you sound like some old grandfather type. Don't you know people were saying the same thing about musicians and the music scene during Hardin's time. There's plenty of wonderful musicians now who sing from the heart just as much. Quit your moaning and stop listening to commercial radio.
Surely this version precedes Nico's. A demo that was given to Nico? The words she sings are exactly as here (+ some repeated at the end). Whereas Tim H tended to vary them in live performance.
@PennyTraition yes, offensive and obscene indeed! its so very sad when the truth is silenced by removing such an intelligent and influential human being who speaks it..we have lost far too many either through maliciously organized or senseless, needless and misdirected crime..MY heart still bleeds for the pointless deaths of those wonderful souls who were our brothers and sisters, our Mothers and Fathers who wanted to help us!help us get through this hard life with a little more happiness.
Regularly brings me to tears. I also love Nico's version, perhaps a little more because I had known it for three decades before discovering the original. Morrissey's version is terrible in comparison, full of pseudo feelings.
No, it's not from #3 (his voice was much more shot-through in that performance). I actually think it's an edited version (from about 8 minutes) of a performance (something like Live at the Bottom Line NYC) that appeared on a Tim Hardin website, possibly with a base in the Netherlands? I can't find it now, maybe it's been taken down.
@PennyTraition gratitude in likes for ur touching comment would carry the number 2 great heights!I do LoVe you darling!I was right 2 share my heart with you,for you are truly special! listen 2 the deeply heart touching song filled with colors of a rich and poor soul that you have chosen 2 send me in our reflection..so beauty full, like your heart! may ripples from the pieces of time we toss together in the ocean of forever flow out, rebound off the heavens, return, and unite us in time again.XO
Yes. It's the only reason I searched for it. I wanted to hear how Morrissey made it sound different and more melancholy like in one Amazon review. I love the whole California Son album.
I've retained a friend, and I'm blessed...sunchilde68.Check him out. I need Opium and its derivatives, and I can't listen to people talk about what they don't know. But he DOES know. And how. You've all seen Hoffman in Fosse's 'Lenny'. You all heard the Nico song. Funny how ripples keep going forever...Bless.

Never knew this fantastic Nico song was from Tim Hardin. Great version!
Nice! Thanks, it's great to hear Tim's tribute to Lenny, and it was great to see the slide show of Lenny. Two kindred souls...RIP Lenny and Tim

"That's great, it starts with an earthquake, birds and snakes, an aeroplane and Lenny Bruce is not afraid."

Anyone else here because of Morrissey?

Yup. Morrissey's version is pretty awesome.
Yup. Obsessed, and felt compelled to find the originals.
when is Vince Vaughn going to play Lenny? Dustin Hoffman nailed it, but I bet Vince has lived it
I think that this is edited from Tim Hardin 3.
No, he sings a lot of different notes, & some different words. And has a band behind him on 3!
It's from this:
