- Here is a quick overview:
🍼Normal FHR: 110-160
Fetal HR Pattern Mnemonic: VEAL CHOP
❌ (V): Variable Decelerations are due to (C): Cord Compression
✅(E): Early Decelerations are due to (H): Head Compression
✅(A): Accelerations are (O): Okay!
❌(L): Late Accelerations are due to (P): Placental Insufficiency
Accelerations: ⬆️ in FHR by 15 BPM and are 🔥normal🔥
Decelerations: ⬇️ in FHR and not usually normal (except in Early)
💊Remember Treatments with the L's:
Late Decelerations or Low FHR: Treat with 🦁LIONS🦁
(L): lie mother on side
(I): IV Fluids
(O): Oxygen
(N): Notify Provider
(S): Stop Infusion of Pitocin
My 345 page book of Nursing School Mnemonics and Visuals that helped me ✨ACE✨ Nursing School and that are included in this FHR lecture is now available at:

❤️Happy Studying❤️
FOR PEOPLE LIKE ME THAT APPARENTYLY NEED TO KNOW EVERYTHING OR ELSE NOTHING MAKES SENSE😅: The reason the FHR slows during Early Decelerations is because the pressure on the head is putting pressure on the Vagal Nerve (heart, lungs, etc),. Pressure on the vagal nerve causes the heart to slow. And this is why the FHR rebounds to normal quickly once pressure is stopped, and why early decelerations aren't a danger.
Studying for the NCLEX as I hardly remember OB from nursing school anymore. This was perfect, thank you!
LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLEASE MAKE MORE OF THESE 5 MINS OR LESS !!
Thx for giving some details! The other veal chop videos basically just read the mnemonic for us without saying which ones are most concerning
Thank you so so much! You do such a great job explaining these concepts.
LOVE! Only important straight forward info and not trying to sell us stuff! Love these videos.

Excellent explanation !!! thanks
beautiful explanations. very easy to understand. thanks
Thank u!
Note: with cord prolapse UWorld says hold cord up n never let go. Knee to chest aka Trendelenburg
You don’t hold the cord, you lift the presenting part off of the cord.
Wouldn't a bolus increase the heart rate?
❤👍😊
I can’t sleep because I have my OB final in 2 hours. You went live on yt with this video just at the right time. If ya can’t sleep might as well study 🥹 pls have critical care videos for next semester 😭 I have a feeling I’m gonna need them 🙃
