@@Luvie1980 Yes, it is. More regulations. More over-site, more permitting.
More wealthy people and/or people that go to a club to 'be seen'....instead of people going to dance, drink, and have fun.
Then the prices go up and clubs go from just "Club" to 'gay club' - 'hip hop club' - 'etc, etc.
Instead of clubs for everyone with little regulation, the cities get involved with strict zoning, and people neighbors 'disapproving'.
All the fun "everybody is invited" clubs disappeared when California became Kalifornia.
.....or When NY started being ran by Democrats. Great clubs in US are now in Florida, Dallas, AZ. Where they leave people alone. Look around you.

Hell yeah. The Palladium from like 86 to 92 was the most popular club in NYC.

Webster Hall was The Ritz. Started going out in 1979. I was 15, but the legal age in NYC was 18. So 14/15 year old kids getting in as 18 year olds happened all the time! The exception, not the rule, were states with 21 as the legal age. It wasn't about drinking either. It was about being OUT! The Shelter! So many clubs, my older sister and brother took me with them! New York came together to get down! And I was just a kid.

An irony is the first time I officially went out is the last functioning night of studio 54, yeah it wasn't studio from 77-79 or whatever but it still was the real studio, it's crazy we got there an it was like a church/school dance winding down fa the night or something it was early but still, with almost no one there a girl approaches me an asks me if I liked Puerto Rican girls, I said if everything's cool yeah, it was for her friend with still few people in the place had the Cutest girl wantin to hook up with me I must have been there 10 minuets if that, haha not bad all n all fa goin to the famous studio bein dead but still doin damage without even tryin!!! Da goods, then it officially closed, this was 1986, after that me n my boyz musta been to almost every spot, underground, bedrocks, emerald city, 10-18's electric warehouse, pallium, but that was just Manhattan were we actually went the least in comparison Brooklyn Long Island Queens we hit all the time, Zackerys in Long Island is still opened I think haha, escapes J spratts on the water montanas avantes pastels Turchoise TJ bentlys to name just a few haha, did some damage, Newday world sucks dick no such thing as Newyork 100% whitebread cornball liberal's, intellect cornball fucks, no normal regular people almost anywhere, everyone a Robot to their fuckin phones Corny as hell, no authenticity anywhere, Just kids that go to School that think their important an shit halarious!!!!anyway yousta be da goods!!!!🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🐘🐼🐬🐅🐻🐕🐳🐖🐄

Also, Twilo, Sound Factory, Roxy, Palladium, etc. as been said here already, the late 90’s-00’s was a time of transition for NYC night life. There had not been any replacement of Studio 54… Hollywood glamour was moot and the SuperModel was born, etc. these dance clubs born from HouseMusic making its way into mainstream, DJ’s getting real recognition, Grammy’s etc.
All that was happening as NYC was losing its worlds Best “Night Life” to London, Ibiza, etc.
This time was truly amazing! For people like me, who worshipped just about every Sunday morning at the alter of Junior, it’s a time never to be forgotten or had again!

  • @jeffthompson3569
    @jeffthompson3569 3 роки тому +4

Wow i Missed out on the tunnel days by the time I started partying they shut it down . Shelter became greenhouse and limelight became Avalon..
Shortly after the community in an uproar complained about the noise. The city shut it down. It then became a inside market for local vendors.
However those Chelsea strip of clubs in the mid 2000's were off the chain they were the best!!😃
Club Home, Guest house, club Cain, club Bed, coral room became Stereo, Bungalow 8, quo, Suzie Wong, metrodome then it became strata, then crimson now its motivo, club Spirit, viscaya, Marquee, Eugene's, Duvet, Mansion,...now the only club left on that strip is Marquee😣
On other side of town in the meat packing district you had lotus, club apartment, club Air, NV, tenjune, g spa gansevoort, club trust, VIP Room, discoteque and The Park, if you couldn't get into The Park you had Avenue and Avenue if you couldn't get into 1Oak.
You had Nells. If you couldn't get into nells next store was club Two eyes, lol... Club Deep was another great club
Further uptown were the urban clubs you had those Mars 2112 , Supper Club, Club New York, Hawaiin tropics, float which then became temple then it came club touch, china club, Babaloo's, the coppa cabana. if you couldn't get in Coppa's you had octagon which became pearl lol.
further uptown was club cream, and moonlighting. The Roxy on Wednesdays for roller skating. Club Exit, And the old 40/40 forty when it was free and it didn't have the extra backroom 😃 and also even at 2:00 AM in the Morning you could still get in.
Giuliani killed all that especially when he mandated clubs to shutdown at 4:00. No more after hours. If I did to go after hour spots they were located on the lower east side. Also Webster Hall for there infamous amateur burlesque Friday nights. the dance and tecno floor stayed open into the wee hours of the morning. The shadow night club stayed open late as well. I would go there at 430 in the morning and they would let me in.
The mid 2000's were something else. So many memories! I will always cherish as young adult hanging out late in NYC ❤

77-84? I don't think so... The Limelight didn't even open until 83, and it's heyday was absolutely the early 90's. Same thing with Tunnel, it didn't open until 86 and again, 90's was it's absolute best... The Bank, Palladium, The Roxy, The Vault... couldn't beat the 90's club scene in NYC.

Don't get me wrong C5. I've been to clubs after 1989 and I had a lot of fun but it just wasn't the same as the 1980s I'm sorry and the music changed dramatically. But yes I've been to Sound factory in the '90s, and some others but I just wasn't feeling it like I did when I went to clubs from 1981 through 1989. Probably the main reasons were because I wasn't into the techno type of dance music. The Sound factory and Twilo I just wasn't feeling it maybe it was because I was getting older. But Ill tell you one thing I did enjoy the tunnel in the '90s big time.

I was at Tunnel one of the nights Giuliani had it raided. One minute I'm dancing in a cage tripping balls and all of a sudden bright lights flash on and police flooded in. Even though a lot of drugs were done there and at other Gatien clubs, there was never really a problem there. I never saw any brawls or shootings or violence at all really. Local dive bars in Queens would have fights break out almost every week, as did those terrible Long Island clubs, but Fri - Sat at Tunnel saw hundreds of people of all types getting along perfectly fine. Same with Limelight. Young, old, gay, straight, black, white, business guys in suits and rave kids in transparent pink shirts, regular locals and famous celebrities, didn't matter. You had the hip hop floor, the main house floors, all the various back rooms, co-ed bathrooms. It was like we all became friends the minute we walked in the doors. These days I imagine the entire scene is long dead. And with the Fentanyl crap going on now, you'd have to be nuts to take anything at all.

Oh My Goodness, as a premier club promoter for NYC clubs from 2002-2006 i can say that tehre will not ever be a time in NYC when clubs are the most-est. I missed some of the earlier clubs, Like Tunnel, palladium, limelight and the shelter. However when the velvet rope scene came around i was there. I think about that time most often. I had a list at several doors which was and is still unheard of for any "black club promoter" you only get 1 unless you were Puff Daddy or P Diddy. I had any club from 42nd street down to Canal street, from Broadway to Westside highway. If you said you were on my list chances are you were getting in and having fun. I almost became Princes go to club guy because of this. i declined and regret it still to this day. Suede on 23rd n 7th, any club in the meat-packing district, All those in the flatiron district or West Village, Basically Chelsea's in hot-spots Nells, Had a membership card to Avalon-former Limelight and Bruce Willis club, Flow on Varick which was Greenhouse(Chris brown & Drakes fight held there), Amy Sacco's clubs, Mark Birnbaum's clubs, Noah Tepperberg's whole promotional team-tried to black-ball me once over getting a JT after party. LOL. I miss these days. The vibe was New decade, century & millennium Studio 54. The pop of pop stars from NYSNC to Britney to Backstreet, to Diddy, to almost every musical star came around and some actors and fashion designers too. i talk about it to people sometimes and they think i am bragging or boasting. I am not i am just in awe of the life i had just 16 years ago. LOL

I never enjoyed it, was never my scene, but I've been in the last few years because it is really the only game in town for that kind of huge dance club feel... I used to work at the Limelight and preferred places like Tunnel and the Bank. If you want to relive your clubbing days Webster Hall is still around and looks largely the same, save for the obnoxious "vip" section that was added where one of the bars was in the main dancehall.
