My grandpa left me a 1964 triple black impala SS 409/425 when he passed away. I was 16, didn’t know any better. I sold it. Kick myself in the ass everyday for that. Hoping one day to buy it back! Beautiful car!

I bought one restored it ,cherry. Had it for 22 years, promised it to my then 4 year old son when he graduated, well he graduated and kept me to my word. It was 1964 SS red on red had the original 327 rebuilt blue printed and balanced. After graduation I gave him the car,he sold it without my knowledge 11months later for 10k. I could've strangled him,but he's lucky I love him unconditionally. I almost cried....

I guess it was his to do as he wanted with it .
Speaking for myself I wouldn't have sold something my father cherished and passed along to me .

That is one '64 convertible that I'd like to have, a flip top with all the right stuff. They were rated at 425@6000 rpm. I'm pleasantly surprised. Last year I had one guy tell me that 409s quit producing horsepower at 5500 rpms so then the '62 409/409 was later rated at that with a question mark and threw out this bummer story about them not doing what everyone wanted them to do and if best tuned maybe put out high 300s. This video debunks that, GOOD. 432 is still a little above the 425. And subtract 5 horsepower if it's a power steering and manual brakes car, which this one isn't, would still leave it with 427, 2 horsepower more than the 425. One '63 SS coupe did 0-60 in 6.6 and a 15.2 1/4 mile with the 340 horse 409 and powerglide auto., power steering, power brakes, and 3.36 limited slip. That was in 1963. So, no one can say these 409s weren't for real. And I took it on myself to show that one guy verification that the 409s in '62 still outperformed 406 Fords which had a general rule of mid15s quarters out of the showroom whether they were tri-power or not. So, if the 409s were overrated then they were all overrated.

I had one it was what Chevy called Daytona Blue. Mine had a 327 though. How much do you want for this gem?

I had just about every chevy 60s thru 76 caprice models.. HT and convertibles.. dealers are over pricing bringing private sales along.. I can afford just anything. But I wouldn't pay current pricing .. I have SS 409 fully loaded which I bought january 2021 for 19k needing nothing other than buffing out original paint.. an unrestored car is worth much more than something like this which I would pay no more than 35k

Thanks for the comment! We sold this for $100k more than what you said you would pay for it. This was a highly sought after and collectible car with outstanding ownership history. It was with the second owner for many years as mentioned in the video/description.

@@MSClassicCars congratulations to you for obtaining that some and condolences to the buyer. Mine is not a holy grail as it one of many 409s 4 on the floor black on black documented 11k plus miles at Jones Chevrolet in Whittier California factory A/C. Power windows including power vent windows, vacuum trunk release, cruise control, factory tachometer, continental kit, wire spinner hub caps, power steering and factory skirts.. its in pristine condition that Volo, vanguard to name a few have been after to purchase it and offered my huge amount for it being I paid 19k for it recently. I will never ask anyone to pay more than what I paid for it when the time comes. Shoot I just sold my 69 427 convertible for 10k in number 2 condition which I paid 15 hundred for from the original owner having little over 35k miles.. my 68 FB GT 390 S code with 58k two owner car in perfect condition on 1 repaint done at Montebello Ford was purchased for 85 hundred.. just goes to show what one can obtain.. but in the coming decades gasoline cars will drop like hail storms as technology moves forward with electric vehicles as gas becomes even more expensive that only select people will have the funds to operate them.. case en point, im paying almost 10 buck to run my 68 and 69 RS on 102 octane..
