Fun gact: The Rock's daughter literally tells her daughter to shut up anytime she hears him try to sing along with "Your Welcome" because it 'ruins the song'. XD
I know you watched and love the music from Encanto. I'm sure you know that Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote the songs for both of these movies. Your reactions are so much fun to watch.
3:05 Cody: Explaining the various elements of the vocals and music simply but also detailed enough that the audience understands what he's saying. Me: Not hearing a word because I'm to busy laughing at Moana's face.
I have heard that "Shiny" was written to be performed as David Bowie would perform it. It is very much a style that fits Bowie, so I can believe it. Also Dwayne Johnson actually does have a very nice singing voice, but I don't know if he ever had any real vocal training.
I'm not sure either if Dwayne did either, but I do recall(and Lin Manuel draws his inspiration from a number of different accounts) there's a scene from Journey to the center of the earth(also features Dwayne Johnson but he's the dad in this version) where he and actor Michael Cane are having a wholesome moment by a campfire 🔥,than you see Dwayne play an instrument,I don't recall exactly the right one but he plays it and starts singing. It wasn't for very long yet that scene reminds me a lot of Maui from Moana, You're Welcome 😁
@@levimiller5419 Journey is the first time I heard him sing. Then I saw a short on UA-cam where he was singing to his daughter. His voice is beautiful and I am so glad they let him sing in Moana. 😊
My mother was an English teacher and amateur pianist. One of her favorite musical terms was the 'hemi-demi-semi-quaver', because of the repetition of sounds. Every time Tomatoa refers to Maui as a 'semi-demi-mini-god', it reminds me of Mum.
You might want to check out the Voiceplay Moana medley... and their Little Mermaid one too... if you haven't already. Fabulous the way they can capture the essence of an entire movie in 6 or 7 minutes... and you get some different rhythmic takes and arrangements on some of the songs which is quite cool too. BTW... just found out from one of your videos that you're a Canuck... glad to have you out there representing us. Cheers! ~Dan
If you've never heard of Jemaine Clement before, check out some Flight of the Conchords. The song Shiny was written specifically to match Jemaine's creepy Bowie-esque vibe from one of the conchords songs.
Shiny is my favorite song from this movie. When I first heard it, I thought it was Bowie. Years later, when my granddaughter got into Moana, I looked up some trivia and found out that Bowie was the sound they were going for.
I love your enthusiasm, it's contagious! When I was last at the Magic Kingdom, this was played at the end during the fireworks show. My (then) 5 year old daughter was in my arms singing this at the top of her voice.
Have you watched Enchanted? I love the songs in that (and all the hundreds of disney cameos and references). With the sequel coming up it could be a great option
Dwayne Johnson (aka The Rock) doesn't have a singing background at all. He was a pro-wrestler through the 90s and mid to late 2000s and he would use music and songs a lot to mock people in that persona. You really should watch some of his old promo clips, they're hilarious, and the "Rock" concert he did in the middle of the ring. Great video, I love how you break the songs down, really get a feel of them.
In an interview, Lin Manuel actually said that he cast Dwayne Johnson just because he was so incredibly likeable in real life that he could get away with being Maui, one of the most conceited beings ever. (Also, being part Samoan helped.
Great takes on the Disney vids, I’d love to see you react to “Lost in the woods” from Frozen 2, as it has an amazing 80s power ballad vibe, reminescent of Chicago or Peter/Cetera and a nice Queen reference as well. Just discovered your channel, keep it up. Love it
Cody, if you're interested in reacting to other musical performances, I'd love to suggest some of the soundtrack from the show RWBY. Specifically "Red Like Roses", "Indomitable," and "This Life is Mine." Hoenstly it's just a great show to react to as well!
I swear if you never watch Hamilton I am going to cry privately 😂. React to ONE song. ONE. I feel like you're the only one on UA-cam who would even understand how to articulate the complexity. Which, btw, is on Disney plus.
so if you haven't seen this film, I recommend giving Pixar's animated musical Coco a watch. Also I know someone already mentioned this but give Enchanted a watch.
I don't know know if you like music which have some, how could I say, church vibes. I would really enjoy if you would give us a personal comment of either the full movie 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame' movie or the songs 'The Bells of Notre Dame' , 'Out there', 'God help the Outcast' , 'Heavens Light / Hellfire' and 'Court of Miracles' (maybe 'A Guy like You' too) in a row? Yeah if you do secind the effect may be anticlimatic, but i would like hearing your opinion for these (for my opinion) masterpieces

The rock voices a Demi-god
The rock singing in moana is a reference to a match he show up and started to sing.

I love this🤣 same!
I noticed this too, it was hilarious. 😂
I have a 3 year old. I've seen Moana every day for the past 2 months 🤣 I enjoyed your analysis. It was like hearing these songs again with fresh ears.

Also Dwayne Johnson actually does have a very nice singing voice, but I don't know if he ever had any real vocal training.
When I heard "Shiny" in the theater I immediately thought of how it reminded me of Bowie, who'd passed away earlier that year...

I absolutely adore the Moana soundtrack 💙
This song was written by Lin Manuel Miranda. Disney songs tell stories so well because they hire Broadway songwriters from Richard Roger's on.

He also sang in Mysterious Island :)

I would have loved to hear "Shiny" done by David Bowie.
YES! That would have been 100%
Enjoyed your reaction! 🤩
Have you tried the Disney movie 'Tangled'? It's amazing and has great songs (especially 'I see the light').
Have you watched "Coco"? Now THAT'S got some good songs, too. I laugh everytime I hear "Un Poco Loco". But, I'm also easily amused.
Yess keep these coming!!!
