It is so difrficult to sing in these arenas because your voice will bounce off the stadium and come back to you while you have just finished a word and you're on to the next word and the next note. They key is to sing slowly. And, the planes weren't there yet, so Donna held out the note... because she can... but, once the planes pass, you get drowned out by the roar of the engines. I love her. She has an incredible voice.

My god, she (once again) sends shivers down my spine! This voice is supernatural. Thank you dear Donna for your voice and all the joy you gave and still give me.❤️
Donna and her family were my neighbors and friends at 16 Parker Hill Ave. in Mission Hill. A sign was erected at the corner of Parker Hill Ave and Huntington Ave by the city of Boston which reads "DONNA SUMMER AVENUE". The memories will last forever. R.I.P. Disco Queen.
Soooo miss Donna Summer. She had such an incredible voice. Most only think of her and disco, but she sang some of the most beautiful songs you never hear on the radio. She had amazing power and range and wrote some great music. Gone too soon.
People always bring up Whitney Houston's version as being the best version, but people need to remember- Whitney lip-synched her studio version that time. Donna did this difficult song acapella and as always, she sang it just the way it should be sung.
Wow!!! Now that is a stunning rendition from the Queen of Disco Donna Summer. That's how it should be sung without those crazy runs and vocal gymnastics. Thank you for this post. I love Donna Summer
A lot of singers use a backing track when singing in a large stadium because of the echo. Donna dealt with it as you can hear from this performance. She left spaces between the notes so the echo wouldn't effect it.
Finally I can see this!! Thankyou very much. To me, this is the apotheosis of the many stylings and variations on the anthem; straightforward (a testament to her skill), resonant, respectful, clear, and uncomplicated by those pretentious runs and trills. Utterly beautiful.
@@ernestogasulla767 Mariah sang excellently; if she really wanted to show off. She would have been riffing, running & hitting whistle notes in every line.
Thanks for sharing this video. It is from 1999 though. I think this is the best live version of the National Anthem. Whitney's was great too, but it was prerecorded and she lip synched to it.

Whitney sung her version live and acapella multiple times and better let's not forget she did hers in 1 take. She didn't need the music and she sung it live on the field and it was a requirement to sing along to a back track due televise reason and air forces flying over. Donna singing at a baseball game so she had to sing it live, Diana Ross sung it regular and live and she's not even a powerhouse Vocalists.
She should have had the opportunity to sing this at a Super Bowl. Most don't know that Whitney's was pre-recorded and lip synched. This along with Lady Gaga ABSOLUTELY A+!

She hits and holds the word "free" in "land of the free" for almost 7 seconds during the fly-over- what an amazing voice...
I wish the fly over had happened after she sang "home of the brave". Would have loved to hear that last part without the fly over.
