Most likely horrible. They do fine when playing music with guitarists such as David Gilmour, but they just can't quite capture the true essence of Trevor Rabin's guitar. /s
Without Dynamic EQ (volume-dependent EQ), low/mid/high volume listening will not be linear no matter the sensitivity of the speakers due to the Equal Loudness/Fletcher-Munson curve. IOW, ideally, the spectral balance (or EQ curve) would be different for low volume listening vs moderate to high volumes. This is why many traditional/vintage receivers and integrated amps were available with the optional "Loudness" button for low volume listening.
It's erroneous to always assume that "large cabinets" or enclosures ALWAYS equate to deep or strong bass response. The ideal cabinet volume and port tuning (in bass reflex designs) is wholly dependent on the T/S parameters of the actual drivers that are being used. The cabinet size or volume also affects power handling, and finalizing the size of the cabinets/enclosure is always a balance or compromise between power handling and obtaining the ideal response. Yes, it is generally true that the larger the drivers become (or using multiple drivers), the more enclosure volume that is necessary for their proper or ideal response. But the specific size and volume of the cabinets of the PointSource 888 loudspeakers are dictated simply by the parameters of the specific drivers that are being used. Making the cabinets even larger would also have negative effects, the same as making them too small.
@@bbfoto7248 The (immutable) balance/compromise is mainly between bass extension, sensitivity and cabinet size. Pick two! I can't at the moment think of a substantial relationship between power handling and box size, but it is 2am here in London. What I can say with certainty, though, is that power handling doesn't enter the discussions on cabinet size in real life. Although Andrew always does his own drivers (kinda giving him another degree of freedom), for the rest of us the cabinet size is dictated by our target bass response shape - generally (and fully) described by the Q (in a sealed cabinet). For ported there are additional restrictions like port length and air velocity.
I'd love to know what songs were used in this video. I've been an Andrew Jones fan for years, and I currently have the Elac UBR 62's and absolutely love them for a bookshelf. I've been eyeballing the SourcePoint's since they came out, but I'm now going to save for these... probably my end game stereo speaker (unless I win the lottery or something lol). I was hoping to make it to the Axpona show this year to shake Mr. Jone's hand, but maybe next year!

I just found out that first track is a Chesky record, which is kinda cheating. 😄 Still, for the record, I thought it sounded bloody great - with the same to be said for what came afterwards. Given that I am on one of the worst sounding laptops I've had in a while - and has to be more of a step down than a Chesky record is a step up - that's quite an achievement. It also wasn't at all the style of sound that I was expecting, though I'll check that on a hi fi system before elaborating further. They're also disturbingly cheap for speakers that, so far and to these ears, appear to by largely flawless. Cor!
@@HanifBarnwell LOL, okay "cupcake", you are hopelessly trying to actually judge and evaluate a pair of speakers through an imperfect recording of speakers in a room and via UA-cam? Well Andrew… you have a Bull here. A Chinese built Bull. Internals are my where queries come from. Low sensitivity… ok… I guess I’ll need to read reviews. Cheers.
87dB/W isn't low sensitivity. Until we started on the chase to lower and lower impedances in the early '90s (late '80s?) almost every speaker was 87dB/W or below. I would concede that they are perhaps a dB or two less sensitive than we might expect from this format (2xLF, MF, HF), to the point that I'm intrigued to know why, but they are not low sensitivity per se. (I expect the reason will emerge at some point and it might be rather interesting.
Not good enough for what? Vandersteen Model 5 was 87 db… Model 7 was 83.5 db… It’s about matching equipment. A lot of the super efficient speakers sound terrible.
so it's a Thiel with a lower style factor. alright, bring the passive radiators back 1:48. So it has some weird phase angles and loads amps poorly good to know a massive 400w amp kicks out. I guess it's a good thing he didn't make the SourcePoint 6 with a 6 inch woofer, because then there would be a SourcePoint "666"
