You have excellent tutorials, and you take your time explaining everything to where a child can understand. Everybody can't teach it requires a skill, some a little more unique than others. I have to commend your work. You get the point across. I can't thank you enough. You're a Godsend.
Hey Ed, you're doing a fantastic job, and I'm really impressed! I just created a meta object for the "text with image" section on the product page. I linked the meta objects to a selected product, and everything is working perfectly except for one issue: an empty (no content) "image with text" section is being displayed on every product.
As of now that's not very clear to me either. If you're working with a developer it's easy to output them in liquid and build whatever you want, but for store owners without a developer I'm not sure. I assume the latest versions of themes will come out with special sections that use metaobjects, and they will just instruct you to set up a metaobject to populate those sections.
@@EdCodes Is it more clear to you now? I'm still trying to understand them well, it seems like they're mostly just used for organization at this point but I may be wrong. I was hoping to do something like allow multiple file uploads ( list entry ) that populates to something like a video gallery without having to code that myself.
Hello, you video is always up-to-date and provide insight for me to design the storefront!!! May I know if metaobject can integrate to the collage section block? Let said I have different lifestyle photos with respective product, and would like to display the lifestyle photos in collage in product page. thx
This was so helpful! I was hitting a brick wall trying to figure out how to customize the fields on each item. Life saver!!!! I do wish there was a way to disable a field though @shopify! Some of my clients items don't have care instructions.
Ed, at 10:15 you say that now that the data is stored (as an object) that we will be able to output it to the front end of our stores in a variety of ways but you never tell us how to do that. I'm just setting up shop and will ultimately have a large list of different kinds of contributors to my site, including influencers, artists to name just 2. So in the case of an artist with a collection of their work (and there will be many), how can I use metaobjects to output to the front end of my store?
Hey Ed, how are you doing? Man, I got and I'm still really excited about these updates and your content was really helpful for me, but with information comes doubts, right, of course. So I wanted to know if using a non-Shopify theme will make me not have access to recent updates? Like integrations and other things. Big hug, brother!
Do you mean themes on the Shopify Theme Store vs elsewhere? I don't think it matters. It takes a while for theme developers to build features that take advantage of new Shopify features. For example, when Shopify 2.0 came out in July 2021, it took 2-3 months for themes to come out with updates that used those features. Didn't matter where those themes were listed. The one exception was Dawn - because it was direct from Shopify they obviously had that info in advance.
It should be pretty easy to see this css if you're debugging something in chrome inspector... but yeah you're right. The issue is basically that with more power and customizability, more things can go wrong. That's the case with any technology and it's all about striking a balance.
Hi Ed, Thank you for your videos, you explain really well!. I have installed your blocks ("Related Products Block" and "Related Products Section"), they are great by the way! To update my Dawn theme to the 8th version, should I re-installed them or will they update within the theme?
Hey thanks for buying, glad you like them! But yeah, you will need to reinstall them on the new theme manually, and also any other code changes you made. So consider if you really want the new features from Dawn v8 or not really. There is no need to update Shopify themes if you don't want to. It's not like updating your phone or something.
@@EdCodes I'm so glad you said we don't 'need' to update our themes.... I made a few small changes last year & I was wondering if there's an easy way to find the changes I made? (I stupidly didn't note them down anywhere & last time I updated to Dawn 7, there were a few updates that didn't change)... I like the look of Dawn 8, but I don't want to lose my changes again... I hope this makes sense 🙈 TY 🤗
I don't think you will be able to find those changes now yourself. Best method now is probably just get Dawn 8 and set up your settings and content, as close as possible to your live theme. By doing this you will probably notice the things that are missing and changes you made. Not sure if that will help you find the exact code though.
Heyo! For the metaobjects, there seems to be the handle field, how does that work? Is the handle something you can create a template for? And would the format be something like /influencers/{:handle}/?
I'm not a techie. I would have thought Shopify updated itself, but it doesn't. So after watching one of your videos, I contacted Shopify to ask about updates and they advised against it as it may disrupt the code. So where do I stand with adding all this flashy new stuff to Dawn 2.0?
I've been working on adding an audio player to my site. I was thinking of creating a single item (list) tracklist metafield and a single item (list) audio URL metafield and making the player that way. Would that be better done through the new metaobjects method?
Great video - However, I have a question. The MetaObjects link under "Content" on the side bar is grayed out. And in the Settings area, under Custom data there is no section for adding MetaObjects. Any ideas?
Pessoal, preciso de ajuda! Eu não consigo trocar de tema, aparece que eu preciso fazer um do zero, mas ainda estou aprendendo e queria colocar um tema mas não consigo só aparece editar branding. Quem puder me ajudar agradeço muito
Hi Ed, my Dawn theme cannot be updated because it said that i have made changes to the code. The only change i made is adding the SKUs as you have shown at another video. How do i fix that?
If you're sure that's the only change then you might be able to just rollback to the original version of the file. Just save the SKU code somewhere before doing this, or just follow the tutorial again later. 1. Go into the theme code editor, open the file with the code changes, and check "Recent changes" dropdown (top left). 2. Select the original version and save 3. Go back to all themes page and you might see the auto update is available.
Thanks for the updates! Is there any way that I could contact you? I have some questions regarding using website builders, I just can trust your answers. A discord group, an email or anything else you're OK with. Thanks

First Ed, this is the best explanation of Meta Objects....but most of all, this is the most awesome feature Shopify has released
Very good stuff dude, big thanks!

Thank you for this comment. That's precisely my goal so I guess I'm on the right track. All the best!

Thanks for making the metaobject a bit more clear for me now ^^ hope to know how can we show those content on the store front. thanks

Hi, I'm having problems getting a afterpay button at checkout. Can you do a walkthrough? Thanks!
Can you make a tutorial about Shopify bundle? The docs are not clearly enough to me. Just giving you a video idea
Thank you for videos 👍 great explanation!!
7:00 It looks like they removed this feature? I looked right where you had the meta fields on this video and nothing showed up for me. 😓 IDK why
Hi ed, you can show how to create a calculator fit size ? And show like find your size on my product page
can you talk more about meta objects thanks

@@EdCodes Okay, thanks bro
The custom CSS field scares me. Especially if a dev/merchant use !important in there and I don't realise they have added it and can't override it 😱

Thanks, this video is really helpful. (9:32 ), I don't have the content tab on my list of headings though. What do I do?
Hmm, maybe it's still being rolled out across all stores. I think you will probably see it in the next couple of weeks.

@@EdCodes Hi, Thank you for your advice!. Please, could you confirm if your blocks work properly for the new Dawn version?

@@jan.emgetriebel-shopify Ah I see, thanks for the reply! Hopefully they add that capability in the future one day.
Didn't really understand what you were saying about Metaobject, Could you please touch on it better

Shopify (the admin part) does update itself. It's only your theme that doesn't. So you just need to download the latest copy of Dawn.

Might be that it hasn't fully been rolled out on your store yet. I think they are doing it gradually.
So, is this AI thing working now on Shopify or is it still to be released?
Shopify Magic (for writing product descriptions) is yet to be released. But the Open AI integration in Shopify Flow is live already.
