Quarterback Matthew Sluka walking away from UNLV 'not adding up' | Dan Patrick Show | NBC Sports
/ nbcsports
Before a kid steps on campus, or puts on a uniform, they should have any agreement in WRITING.
The Tark era UNLV would have found the money. 😉
With all respect I really don't understand thinking this guy will get anywhere close to 500k to 1.5 million. Just look at his stats, under 60% completion at Holy Cross and 43.8% this year. If he could have made that much he wouldn't have gone to UNLV for 100k.
He’s a running quarterback. You’re cherry-picking his stats to make an argument. Interest in him will be limited. But, I don’t blame him for holding UNLV accountable for its shady bait and switch recruiting. Barry Odom thought they could nickel and dime this kid and string him along. Sluka put a very public end to it. ☝🏽
@zplapplap A running quarterback is still supposed to complete a serviceable percentage of passes. And even still, his production just isn't worth anywhere close to what the guy said. Those numbers rival the NIL valuation for starting top 10 quarterbacks.
@@Forester- I don’t know about NIL valuation beyond the reporting. Do you? I remember Sluka getting some attention before his transfer. He was an FCS all-American and won a lot of games at Holy Cross. He was also winning at UNLV despite not having the benefit of spring practice. 🤷🏾♂️
This was the wrong guy for UNLV’s media narrative. Sluka was at Holy Cross for four years and graduated before leaving. He was not going to UNLV for a scholarship and he wasn’t going to leave without being severely aggrieved. He was the wrong guy. UNLV should have paid him what he was both promised and owed.
But you would understand leaving if they said they would pay you $100,000 and only paid you $3,000?
@@zplapplap perfect QB for Michigan
So Giants can't run the ball well. They refused to pay Barkley. All the talking heads were saying how easy its to replace a running back. A quality player is hard to replace regardless of position.
You can always tell in the comments section who never played sports on a higher level. Or were tormented by the jocks or cool kids
You guys are going by one side of the story. I find it ironic that he leaves after he hires an agent that’s not registered in the state. Did you see the new QB today? He is better. UNLV won’t miss him.
UNLV RB Michael Allen Joins QB Matt Sluka in Transfer Portal Amid NIL Fiasco. Sounds like UNLA has some explaining to do.
Allen tweeted and said his situation has NOTHING to do with NIL. He stated that the RB situation is deep at UNLV and he isn't getting the playing time that he thought he would get.
P4 football needs a commissioner. Badly. Second, collective bargaining is a must.
Looks like UNLV is going to take the most immediate money and stay with the Mountain West rather than go to the PAC12 which will
Probably provide them more money in the future. It seems like they needed the money now.
They already said they were staying and backed out of going to the pac 2
UNLV told the kid that he’d get the contract once he enrolled. Something came up where he couldn’t enroll untill July. The kid arrives on campus goes to camp wins the job and ask the school hey where’s my contract they told him it’s coming and then the collective told him no
"UNLV should have paid" is exactly my feeling. How are you supposed to explain to the fucking fans that the season is over because our ticket money can't cover your poverty program to pay for the starting QB that is netting you a 3-0 start.
My question is how the team didn't come to terms after he won the starting job. And why string the team along knowing you got a QB who is disgruntled. If the assistant made this offer and their are text to prove it, they can win this in court because I believe Nevada accepts verbal agreement cases. 🤝 smh.
dont forget the school tuition, free tuition at unlv is alot
Sluka graduated last spring. He didn’t go to UNLV for a scholarship and book money.
@@zplapplaphe’s talking about others.
@@JDmix123 Ok. Is Sluka not the subject of both the video and the comment to which we’ve replied?
Young people learning that in the real world everyone you deal with, you have to assume are going to screw you. Get better agents, get it in writing and preferably money in the bank.
There needs to be written legal contracts that state the amount of money they will earn. Non of this we will see or verbal commitments.
UNLV told him they would give him the contract after he enrolled which happened in July.
They found the money after he announced he was leaving. But sound like that didn’t change his mind. I read the running back was doing the same thing after getting lied to also.
Not quite. The running back is not similarly situated and committed to leaving for different reasons. Sluka’s problem was not playing time, and the other guy, Allen, had not said that he has a deal, or was promised, NIL money.
UNLV doesn't have super rich alums to pony up $10K a piece? I mean, come on. It's the QB and your 3-0
Folks are spending that on a hand of poker at a local casino. Just sponsor the dude.
Hold up… if he figures he’ll be able to get 500k - 1.5 million by leaving the school wouldn’t that be more incentive for him to leave on his own whether or not there was a “deal”
This guy is talking out of his behind sluka isn't a good QB at all passing percentage is 43 percent next year at most he could get is 100k he's not even a top 200 current college quarterback look at his backup he just destroyed Fresno state dude looked like Lamar Jackson
Sluka goes to the Raiders----
If there is a way to take advantage, cheat and steel, someone is going to do it. Questions raining down.
Head scratcher! Maybe UNLV is that broke or that stingy. Maybe they have another Quarterback who they think can win just as many games.
Sluka got scammed like a bum by pack of Vegas bums! Pay Sluka !
😂😂😂
Nice try, Sluka.
Welch Course
Dan is, and always will be, an establishment guy.
😂😂😂
I think you heard those words somewhere before but haven't looked them up.
that’s how you get a secure spot at NBC.
not adding up ? its simple... UNLV reneged on an agreement.
How do you know? A casino offered to pay it. He is a quitter. The new QB is way better. UNLV Won’t miss him.
1.5 million for a guy that isn’t gonna go pro?!?! That’s more than what Brock Purdy makes!
You lost me at $500k to 1.5m.
They are making it seem like this kid is Tom Brady.
Dude ain’t getting to nfl. He’s just an average college QB. College football is doomed.
UNLV are short-sided. They are missing out on millions of dollars of bowl money because they refused to pay this kid 100k.
And they want you to believe a kid transferred for 12k a qb none the less
I think some bozo in or near the program who doesn’t have much clout made that promise of $100K. I can see why UNLV wouldn’t pay based on principle.
Slukas backup is way better then him everywhere you see the Fresno state gane
@@Tobeterry-v8bSlukas backup is a bum. Sluka is Lamar to him.
All of coaches are used car salesman. I was promised a car if I signed with a certain school. At 17 years old I knew it was bad business back then. I know he’s a young man but you must include parents and other smart people.
He's free to leave. Let him go.
let him go? he left on his own 😂
Ross, what does it matter if he is not drafted. That doesn't have to do with anything. You just wanted to crap on the kid. What's sad is your a poor analyst.
Exactly. All the more reason why the $ in college matters.
Force the NFL to use farm systems. Then we can all watch crappy college football. Demographics of Alabama revert back to when there was segregation 😂
Otherwise expect the players to get paid and they'll act in their best interest.
I like how this dude talks about the QB Making The Right Decision And Would Have Done The Same If It Were His Son¸ Then Goes On To Say Oh By Way I Run A Recruiting Business!! Makes Everything He Said Meaningless And Amount To Nothing More Than A Glorified Plug For Hiṃ Huge Waste Of Time!!! Crazy Hearing Him Talk About Who Needs To Do What's Right ṢMDH!!🙂🤮
UNLV DIDNT PAY.
ITS A WELL KNOWN FACT IN VEGAS.
EVEN DERRICK CIRCA OFFERED TO PAY THE KID 100K.
ITS A TOTAL DISASTER. MILLIONS LOST FOR CASINOS AND THE VEGAS SERVICE INDUSTRY.
