    Suggestion. On both sides of the last tube to be inserted, cut 1/3 of the way through this tube about one quarter inch from the end. Then cut up to the first two cuts that were made, taking out the square/rectangular pieces that were made. This replaces the the nail and removes the last steps of putting the nail in and glueing it. Now all is plastic, cutting the chance of rust and damage to the check ball. Maybe the check ball could even be made out of rubber which would remove the steps of punching out the hole in a piece of rubber and glueing it to the smaller plastic tube. This replaces two items, and three steps. It also allows larger or smaller tubing to be used as long as the correct size rubber ball could be found.
    Great video 👍. Just a suggestion 😊

    it is not good and not strong to put the smaller pipe inside the bigger one then add super glue from the outside! You should put super glue first on the smaller pipe then insert it in the bigger one so that glue will cover a wide area between the two pipes and stay longer !! hint: you should use special super glue for rubber !

    John, you could use a set of 2-3 pistons to obtain rotation, a pressure valve to create combustion in the pistons, and woodgas to fuel the combustion, to create an engine. The gasification chamber would be heated by the charcoal made while obtaining the woodgas. The great part is that one can use many sources of fuel, from wood, to grass, from wet to dry, from big logs and coal chunks to coal dust and pellets, thus showing people how one could make an engine for all sorts of uses.
    Like making a self-rotating signal light in case of emergency, which uses a tiny amount of fuel and a bearing, to rotate something around a source of light (like a flame) to be used as a signaling light, if there isn't a good enough stream of water or wind in the area at the time. Or using it to rotate a terracotta/cement/metal wheel so one can sharpen tools and sharpen rocks to make tools if&when needed.
    Also, if enough fuel is present, one could possibly make an engine for movement, like a boat, or car(t). One only has to stockpile some fuel before deciding on a direction, and to make sure one has at least 2 speeds (one being reverse, recommended 1-2 for building forward momentum), and a steering system, and one can get much faster by car than by foot. If the terrain is not ideal, one could use rope and wood to make tracks for the wheels, or just make really wide wheels. A gear box is not that difficult to make, either, so one could easily reverse the direction, as well as increase the speed at the cost of carrying capacity.
    The good part of that is that by making a playlist of videos showing one how to make a wood-gas engine from scraps, one can help those in need who have the time and resources to have that built, to build it. So, for example, someone in the poor parts of Africa or Asia could build a vehicle that would allow one to move goods, and by moving goods one can make a profit. For example, one could carry water and food, or cut wood, or grind wheat, or make grass pellets, or power a water pump. Using different input sizes, one could increase the speed at which the water is pumped, and if a channel/tube is made (terracotta and cement can be used, if cheap enough, and burried for lower chance of implosion) or installed, one can easily move water many kilometers instantly, so a union/group could get water inland virtually instantly, regardless of the dunes in the desert.
    Heck, even a cheap PVC piping, when burried for lower chance of explosion, can easily allow water to be moved many kilometers. If needed, one could even use multiple pumps, or bigger ones, so someone can pump water for a weekly fee some part of the distance, someone else can pay that person for water pumping and be paid by others to pump the water even more, and so on. Thus, a 1m-thick water stream on the beach could be spread and end up being a 5cm-thick water stream 5000km inland, for example. Moreover, the ones maintaining the system can work legally, so there's no problem there, and the flowing water would ensure that there won't be much salt debree piling up. Also, using an archimedes screw for pumping water, one could also move fish. The speed is also a factor, since one would have to mess with the gearbox to find the best fuel-water efficiency.

      I really like your idea and the nice way you wrote it. I'm not sure if i would be able to implement it,but it is a pity to not share all this nice information perhaps on a forum or something like that. You seem like you know this topic real well. Well done!

    • @SapioiT
      @SapioiT 6 років тому +2

      Well, the information is on the internet, but there's not one site that acts as a hub for engineering, permaculture, minimalism, and more. Well, aside from youtube.
      Also, you could use stainless sheets of metal as a parabolic mirror, to reflect light on a pipe or a smaller parabolic mirror behind the pipe, which would heat up air. Having that air circulate through a loop leading to the head intake of a stirling engine would be enough to get it moving, and once moving it can power one fan for the heat intake loop and another one for the cooling intake (which can be just normal air). There could also be another loop, for burning fuel to heat the air used to transfer heat. Some use water or antifreeze, because it needs (much) lower speeds than air, and circular solar concentrators use salt, but a high-speed fan and a funnel are enough to speed up the air. But the "linear solar concentrator tube" is enough for that.
      Below are 2 links to a video that shows how cheap energy can be achieved. And although it might not be as much heat as from other means, the usage of a stirling engine allows for possibly higher energy outputs, because it uses only a temperature difference to generate motion (rotary power), which is a form of energy that can be converted to electricity pretty easily. Teracotta bricks / fire bricks can be used, as well as rammed earth (5% cement and the rest dirt, packed down really well) with tubes (helix or zigzag) for transfering heat (with the same substance, but if it's not air, you would need to have a layer between the liquid and the storage medium), to be used at night (when the temperatures are lower outside, giving a higher temperature difference; also, 24/7 power generation).

    I got a shower valve repair kit that comes with rubber rings and springs. I guess I could use that to substitute the nail and the rubber. I just need 2 tubes and super glue? The hoses are polyvinyl? Maybe theres a better glue cause super glue tends to crack and oxidize or break down under uv.

    • @truebassB
      @truebassB  Рік тому

      Hello. I guess if the valve repair kit comes with a pipe you can use that to make something like this and use the o-rings to substitute the rubber i used.
      Best to use solid PVC pipes of any diameter with the necessary fittings to make something that looks like in this video, and as for glue, i suggest that you use PVC glue instead of superglue on hard pipes, but if you plan to use it for anything drinkable be sure all the material is food grade.

    Question ..can water pump attached to flowing pump act as check valve..We get water from municipality for short time and we use pump attached to water pipe line to pull into water sump, my question is if the input is raised we don't get pressure. If we have same level .local plumber says the water will flow back to main line. My question is will the water pump act as check valve

    • @truebassB

      If i understand this correctly, you have a water pump where you want it to act as a check valve. From what i can say, there's a good chance for the water pump to have an integrated check valve on it so it might work.

      It was a ball for plastic jewelry,and yeah you can use a marble,why not? Just i think it will be too heavy for a low flow air application,for something as dense as water it should be alright in most of the cases as far as the valve is placed horizontally,or if it's having a spring behind the ball forcing it to the direction the valve works to.

    Is it possible to avoid the nail and instead, cut the edge of the outflow-side tube into a V shape? I know it'll be effective for low-flow applications, but, not for high-flow. It depends on what it'll be used for. A low flow application is brake bleeding for example. Have you tried it with a tube that its edge is cut with V cuts all around? I'll be trying it to see if a little air or fluid can go through those teeth looking cuts. For a washer, I'll use a good quality that can resist acids and fuel. They are from the oil filter of a GLK350. Four sizes in the package. I won't use cheap washers made for water. And a 100ml syringe. Any other ideas how to avoid that nail? Maybe distort the main tubing by heating it and pressing your nails on it. Then, use that distortion as the middle of the device. Then start cutting the tubing. Hopefully the distortion won't let the ball go to the other side. Trial and error will lead to success in the end. Oh, did I forget to tell you? Your video, your thoughts, your presentation is impeccable.

    • @truebassB
      @truebassB  7 років тому +2

      What you say will work just as fine as the nail,it is how i had it made for the first time,it just could not give as much clearance as the nail for the flow to pass. Another way to avoid the nail is probably a metal mesh,but your idea about distorting the tube is interesting,especially if hard pvc pipe is used instead of flexible.
      I appreciate that you like my video. :)

    • @atvstel
      @atvstel 7 років тому +1

      John's Crafting Lab You are very right about the amount of clearance and a metal mesh is a perfect solution for high pressure flow. In my case I need to make one for bleeding brakes and the force of gravity is not enough to seal the inlet. And if I hold it the other way it will never be any seal. I started by looking for marble. I took a small one out of an old swivel office chair. A stainless steel ball that was a part of chair's bearings. This is my marble now and fits nicely in a syringe (syrup for babies). Now, I'm looking for a spring to provide a tight seal independent to how the device is held. If I can't find the spring i won't continue. I'll just cover the tube with my thumb when I evacuate the brakes. Syringes are very useful to work around the car. I labelled all of them. One for only water, only oil, only brake fluid, only power steering, etc. They are 100 ml and only $3 each. That's how I added the new differential oil on my Ford Escape. And the power steering fluid on my GlK350. Also, I use a 1.5 liter syringe for oil change. I tested it on my Chrysler a month ago and I extracted a liter in about a minute. It needed modification thought. For a lazy oil change I modified a Toro leaf blower/vac to reduce it's huge opening into the size of a shop vac tube and with the help of a separate canister filled with vacuum, all the oil comes out in less than 10 minutes. I did something similar in the past with a regular shop vac and it lasted for years, but, eventually the motor gave up. Too much heat in the bucket. The Toro is air cooled because it's not inside any bucket. I'll update you later on my check valve. Before closing, I must tell you don't stop doing these videos. You'll be a huge success. Trust me. People like such videos. For example, get an empty mason jar, install 2 plumbing valves on its lid and make an oil catch can. Talk to you later.

    • @SapioiT
      @SapioiT 6 років тому +1

      You could glue/weld something to stop the ball from blocking the other end of the valve, while still allowing water to flow. Or just cut that end of the inner pipe into a zigzag or sinusoid pattern to allow the water flow. Did I understood the problem correctly?
      Also, you could use a fan, or a fan with a funnel to pressurize the air and more easily direct it to the parts that need cooling.You can even put the engine in it's own enclosure so that the air that comes in presurized would be directed in it's way out, so as to not heat everything else around it, or just use two fan-funnel systems, one one-funnel (to push the air in the small tube) high-pressure air-push, and one two-funnel (one at each end) air-pull.

    • @truebassB

      To tell the truth i did made some experiments with it being like that and that's the best idea, only problem is if the tube is too small like the one i've used, then its wall is going to be thick, thus limiting the flow at some extend, whereas a nail leaves the full space between free.
      Although if the tube is bigger and you use, let's say a pipe and a marble, the way you say is the best way it can be made.

    • @truebassB
      @truebassB  4 роки тому +1

      Great, as far as the flow is sufficient to operate the valve the way you made it, for example the seal at the ball plays a great role, the smoother its contact is, the less pressure and flow it will need to operate completely.

    you should have used the spring to push the ball

    • @truebassB
      @truebassB  7 років тому +1

      Correct,that's the ideal design,but you need a high pressure application to insure it will work,the same goes to springless design,but this needs high flow to make it work.

      One could have two valves, a smaller one for lower-pressure, and a bigger one for higher-pressure.

      It will work with air, but i would suggest translating this design into metal pipes, since they won't deform as easily when under great pressure so leakage will be non existent (unless you use it for extreme pressures)

      @@hardcase1659 not sure if you are talking about metal or the plastic tube in the video which is what i was referring to ,i doubt it would work properly to shut out a flash back in time ,better to not mess around for such use and get real one,,of course if i made one myself for such use it would be a bubbler with water chamber,,much safer

    • @hmax1591
      @hmax1591 6 років тому

      no. it was to show how well it sealed and kept water from flowing. the reason it did what it did, was because the water pressure was too high to keep the valve in place in the hose.
