The BEST TRAIN RIDES in JAPAN

Trains in Japan are a religion. So much so that there are even sub-groups to categorize train lovers. There is 撮り鉄 (Toritestsu), someone who loves taking pictures of trains or example. 乗り鉄 (Noritetsu) is someone who loves getting on trains while 駅鉄 (Ekitetsu) describes someone who is an expert on train stations. There's even some really obscure ones like 音響鉄 (Onkyoutetsu) which describes someone who records the sounds in and outside of trains.
But even if you are not crazy enough to stick your iPhone to the top of a moving train to record some ambient sound, I am sure you would appreciate taking a scenic train ride or two. Yes? Well then I have just the video for you.

Hi Adam. Of the five you mentioned, the one I'm more interested in is the Enoshima dentetsu, as I really like Kamakura and I had heard on Chris Broad's blog about how in sections it squeezes right next to houses.
Myself I can't get enough of the shinkansen (when I have the JR pass), otherwise the one I have my eye on is the Kurobe Gorge Railway. ✌️

Yes it can get quite narrow in sections! Definitely worth checking it out as a day trip from Tokyo :) I heard good things about the Kurobe Gorge Railway, it must be especially beautiful in fall with the autumn colors around!
