Looking forward to you testing this Gene. I wish you had the time to bench test more products. I appreciate how you present the results in a rational way. Never overly critical of the numbers and instead highlighting what's audibly detectable to our ears and what's not. I trust in products that Audioholics recommends as well performing. You(Gene), James and Matt really are expert authorities in my opinion!
I'm so glad I discovered this channel! Thanks for reviewing the Anthem MRX 740. On October 14 2022 my Anthem MRX 740 will be installed by professionals along with Two Paradign Premier 800F Tower Speakers, along with a Paradign 600 C center channel, as well as a 15 Inch Klipsch 400 Watt powered Sub woofer, and a pioneer turn table. The New Samsung 2022 Qn90B 55 inch TV, Sony 4K Blu Ray player and a PS4 Pro. I can't wait! I would like to say, that I called 5 HIFI stereo system retailers and only 1 place when I called gave me the right answer Which was, ( I WON'T SELL YOU ANYTHING UNTIL I KNOW WHERE IT'S GOING). Room size, shape, material, all things make a difference and Humans in stereo system purchase, set up extra. Would like to see a show on the right way, or what to ask salesmen in purchasing stereo equipment etc. Thanks
Looking forward to the review. It would be great to compare it with the other Canadian brand namely the Nad 778. I would be especially interested in comparing ARC genesis against Dirac. Your unique and much valued technical skills would be beneficial in understanding the differences and benefits of the two leading high end room calibration softwares. Keep up the good work!
So timely -- and confirming. I just pulled the trigger on the 740 Friday. Going to have it professionally installed though: It's worth it to avoid having to learn and then forget how to use another room correction system.
I've been extremely happy with my Anthem AVM70 experience. Great products. I'm looking forward to maybe adding an STR preamp for my 2.2 channel living room too.
As a new owner of their AVM 70, Love the build quality, and web interface...but that remote lol. You can tell where the decided to save a few bucks. At least it won't be used after setup
I'm surprised to see the MRX740 and not the MRX1140. I've been running this receiver for a few months in a 5.2.2 setup with an Anthem MCA325 for the L/C/R channels into Paradigm Prestige series 95 mains and 55C center. Sounds stunning. Looking forward to the ARC calibration to make sure I've done everything correctly. Thanks Gene
A few back, I recalled Shane from Spare change was the one who unboxed and did a review for the MRX 1120 for Audioholics. This time, gene himself is doing it.
Got the MRX720 last year based on long term reviews. The internals look almost identical to this Gene. Looking to add an external amp for LCR. If this has 140wpc for 5 channels, that would be amazing and would mean I need a 300wpc amp!? Good to see you are well Gene.
@@Audioholics Gene the lighting looks really pretty, although I usually watch your video's very late into the night so it could be me or you have a nice tan, anyway love your stuff, much love & respect x
So confused, I love your channel and long time follower I'm currently itching to upgrade my old Yamaha HTR-5950, according to the manufacturer it's rated at 110 per ch x 6 (660 watts) it's a 6.1 system. Nobody seems to list their receivers this way anymore and I'm having a really hard time understanding the way wattage for comparison. Im currently drooling over the Onkyo TX-RZ50 if you can find them but wondered if the Onkyo TX-7100 would suffice? It's easier to find in stock but it seems to be rated at less power than my current Yamaha? But again it's not exactly clear to me. I'm running Klipsch RF-35 floor, center surrounds and 12" sub all rated at 120w cont/500 max so I want the amp to match as closely as I can. Do they not make amps with the wattage anymore or does my Yamaha not have what it appears to have? Like I said I'm so confused, any help would be very much appreciated.
@@Audioholics Thank you for taking time out to answer. It really helps us all. 🙏🏻 Longtime subscriber, supporter and lover of your channel and your valuable work.
1st up I hope everyone had a great Xmas & New Year.. I wonder how this would compare to the NAD T 758 V3i with Dirac Room Correction. The biggest difference I can see the Anthem has much more HDMI Inputs. But most of the other specs look pretty similar. While the NAD's 7 x 60w looks lower than the Anthem's 5 x 140w & 2 x 60W. The Anthem is rated at 2ch driven @ 1% THD While the NAD is rated at all 7ch driven @ 0.08% THD. And rated at 110w 2ch driven @ 0.08% THD. All ratings are at 8ohms. Would be great to see the NAD get a full bench test report if possible.. As there is also a bit of a price difference between the two.. Even though on price the NAD 778 is more at the price point with the Anthem, even though it has 9ch of amplification.. With more power
Great video. I have a question about adding amplification to my system. If its a 50/50 audio/home theater system...Should I use a 3 channel amp for the front 3 channels or should I get the best 2 channel I can for the stereo fronts and then get another 5 or 7 channel amp for the center, surrounds and rears? Having trouble making this decision...Leaning towards a 3 channel for the fronts and center just so all of that is on matching speakers and amplification. Thanks again for the great videos!
Was thinking of upgrading from a Yamaha adventage 1070 to this mrx740, just wanted to know if the stated 60 watts for atmos speakers is sufficient or would I need to buy a separate amp to run them ? Thx keep up the good work.
One thing that comes to my mind, is the remote controllers... How is it, that they still mostly make totally awful remotes? I bought x4700h and the remote doesn't even have back light... And then I have to pay extra for apps, to gain access to all settings of their room correction... I'm sorry, but that's just fucking bullshit... Sorry about the language ;)
I like reviews, but have never liked unboxing, I feel it’s a false read on market demand, people watch “unboxing” videos when they really want a review, and any good review should include a list of included contents. The intimate dynamic of the host’s hot take on the product, isn’t inherent to just opening boxes, it’s intimacy with the host that the watchers want, just chilling with hugo talking tech is the same, but the actual act of unboxing is not even why people watch them or what they want. Theres some element of gift unwrapping in a cathartic Christmas morning memory thing, and some excitement of the unknown, the term “unbox therapy” is so fitting, as it’s the feel, the vibe, which is therapeutic, also maybe something tactile-ly satisfying about the tape being sliced. But when I search for products, I avoid the unboxing ones, as it’s usually just clueless first impressions. I feel the zeitgeist has also moved on from unboxing, and is finding intimacy and infotainment in “reviews” and twitch streams. If you’re going to do this RIGHT! You gotta whisper asmr into the mic like Shane, and close mic the popping of the tape, and the crisp crackle of the cardboard. But even then, I’ll still feel like you’re just wasting my time opening a f-ing box! In an eco conscious era, fancy packaging is basically a crime against humanity, which I guess is fine if you live in LA and everything about your life is selfish and superficial, right down to the box of your latest techno-idolitry. But Florida Man ain’t like that, oh no, he is something else, like an alligator with scissors and a wayne ker and a website, who even knows what stirs in the orangey juice of his sun-baked mind.

If you can afford it and save the time and headache why not.
I am excited to hear your thoughts on this AVR. Been contemplating this
Would love to see Gene do a real time ARC calibration video.
As a huge fan of the channel I just wanna point out that if you write ’No snake oil’ and cross it over it means ’Snake oil’.
Wow, a receiver with a decent number of analogue inputs AND a digital optical out, haven't seen one of those on a receiver for years!
But no xlr

How the MCA vs the 740 for amplification ? Is it worth the extra thanks.

What else do you want it to display? It shows every menu setting making it easy to configure without the remote.

Man that thing is nice. I was about to get the Yamaha RXA6A. I wonder if this is going to sound better than the Yamaha ?
Could be a noticeable improvement. But price to performance would be disproportionate.
The Yamaha amp section is much more powerful but the processing in the Anthem is excellent.

Cool video, Gene. Do you think this AVR would have any trouble driving the New B&W 706S3 book shelf speakers? I am thinking of using this amp.
YEEEESSSS!! Good day eh! 🇨🇦
3000 dollars should = HDMI 2.1 there are recievers a 3rd of the cost that have 2.1. If you have to pay for the "upgrade" then that's outrageous IMO
While you are reviewing this unit can you reach out to Anthem about the hdmi 2.1 board upgrade process and price?
Can you cover the best audio settings to use in a 2.0 or 2.1 music listening setup in a future video?
Curious how this compares to Arcam AV20 .

Can you comment on the fan noise of the Anthem are they are louder or the same as other receivers.
What mic were you using to record this video?
Hell yeah, Jump straight to the beta build of firmware for us
Anyone know where you can get the new silver mic? I have a AVM 60 and wanted to know if there is a difference.
When are you going to bench test the AVM90?
When they actually exist and shipping units to reviewers.
Can anyone hear a slightly audible high pitch ringing from their unit? Sounds almost like coil whine. Definitely not from the fan.
