    I live in Taiwan. The humidity here is often 100%. Soaking berries in vinegar 100% increases the shelf life by preventing mold growth.

    Worked at a fruiterer for a while.
    All you gotta do is plasti wrap the water melon and it will stay fresh, no need for the garlic

My parents went to college for film and photography in the 80s. Now they can hardly operate today’s cameras. When you change careers and don’t keep up with it, you lose your qualifications

    They definitely should have covered a watermelon with saran wrap and no garlic because I'm pretty sure the plastic wrap is doing all the heavy lifting and all the garlic is doing is making it garlicky.

    You guys should do a segment, at least in a good mythical more, of what is the best stale food taste test. You could call it “we’re stale good!“
    I recommend stale graham crackers, they taste the same and somehow it’s just a softer version of the same thing.

    Rhett & Link referring to the 'top milk', I've always referred to it as 'side milk', as in the milk that gets dried on around the sides and lid of the bottle. I always decant the milk if it smells to see if it still smells in a new container 👍

      Therapist here-better help is like the “Walmart” of therapy options. It’s okay if that’s all you have access to/can afford. There’s even some damn good therapists on better help I’m sure. But there are MANY virtual therapists that can provide way better quality therapy and may also offer payment plans or reduced rates. I love the promotion of mental health the guys do, I just hope they move to a more ethical and quality promotion platform for it.

      Even the milk "hack", expiration dates aren't a hard limit for shelf life; unsalted milk can also still be fine 5 a couple days after its expiration date

    Seeing you guys do hacks makes me want you to have UA-cam food scientist/baker Ann from How to Cook That. After watching her debunk alot of hacks, I'm doubtful about that garlic hack actually working. It could be her assisting them with seeing which hacks are actually good vs ones that are fake. Could be fun and informative!

    Lemon juice is a preservative, use it on apples to keep them browning as fast, and other fruits

    13:10 lactobacillus bacteria, needs salt to live. Its also the bacteria that causes milk to go bad. And interesting enough its also the same bacteria that pickles/ ferments vegetables. So yes salt in milk is a bad idea.

      Lacto doesn’t need salt to live and reproduce. It really just need fermentable substances and some other nutrients usually sugar. Though most strains are salt tolerant and can survive up to 10% saline solution. So a pinch isn’tof doing much.

      Paenibacillus is the predominant species in spoiled milk. So, any talk about lactobacillus in reference to spoiled milk is moot.

    Ok, now you guys have to repeat the garlic experiment. The results were convincing but with 1) a sample size of 1 and 2) with the crew saying it was the other way around, its too intriguing to leave alone like that.
    Then again, this should really be resolved by real science but, in the absence of that, two guys on the internet will suffice.

    Milk shouldn't be stored in the door anyway, milk should be in the back where it's coldest, so the hack would be irrelevant if it was stored properly

      I think it depends on the fridge. The fridge at my parents house recommends storing milk in the door because of the way it runs.

      this was more important with older fridges that had all the cooling from the same spot and couldn't hold temp as easily, still applies now but it differs wildly from fridge to fridge, mattering more the older the fridge is

      I do the salt preventatively & it works.
      "Best Before" dates are for optimum flavor/performance. Expiration dates are in regard to spoilage & such.

    Here in the Netherlands we have 2 kinds of expiration dates. Tenminste houdbaar tot (at least good till date) Probably like 'best before', te gebruiken tot (usable till/don't use after date). Most things at least good till, are consumable at least a week after the date.
