The small desert town from Grand Theft Auto 5 known as “Sandy Shores” is based off this town. And that restaurant is called “The Yellow Jack Inn” next to Sandy Shores in GTA5 and the Alamo Sea is identical to the one in real life. It’s actually amazing
How about just keep it on UA-cam? Why does it need it need to be on t.v.? Why so they can manipulate the way he has the show? Why do you want to ruin something good?
I was doing a little research on the Salton sea, what I could gather is it was created in 1905 by accident because of engineers trying to increase waterflow to the farmland. The Colorado river overflowed and for 2 years flowed into here before finally being blocked off. Because the river replenishing the Saltonsea is connected to the real sea, salt flows in aswell. The saltonsea is actually evaporating away and is only replenished every 400-500 years bringing in more salt water, the water evaporates away again leaving salt. The sea gets saltier and saltier. The mayor is actually trying to save the sea, because they fear that if it completely evaporates away, the smell of rotten fish, salt and pollutants will be so strong, it could reach the coastal cities. Whilst some fish still live in the sea, they will soon die out.
that and if the water evaporates the alkaline from the pesticides and fertilizers will contaminate local farm lands, not to mention it will be in the air being breathed in by people/wildlife/livestock
There is one thing they can do, but its highly expensive and rather stupid. Move everyone out of the area and re-open the flow to the Colorado river. Let the area flood, it will be about 20x bigger and the surrounding areas will be completely flooded, but then theres no pesticides to worry about
Bombay Beach is a census-designated place in Imperial County, California, United States. It is located on the Salton Sea 4 miles west-southwest of Frink and is the lowest community in America, located 223 feet below sea level. The entire area of Salton Sea is very interesting and offers wonderful locations for photography. Also, the west shore of Salton Sea. Nice video 'Josh'.
Thank you for just showing actual footage of the Bombay beach. So many people insert other places on the Sea to hype(not really sure why) the down fall of the surrounding communities of the sea. I grew up going to the North Shore campground in the 1960's. We would spend the winter ,spring and fall there on weekends. It was one day water skiing and one fishing,at that time it was so crowded we had local friends go down Friday afternoon to reserve our camp site.In 1990 our family began to buy homes in Bombay beach(still have three places there). This place had a beach side food place ,until the flood of 1969 when the restaurant and trailer park was flooded and became 6 feet under water for a couple of days. The first 3 streets near the berm were also flooded. This change the whole community in many ways.Bombay realized it had to have a sewer system instead of septic tanks and the berm was extended and made a lot higher. emergency plan was put into place and water pumps bought to keep that part of the neighborhood dry. to comment on the smell next would be come June of every year since 1992 the smell of the sea is like the red sea or other inlets to the oceans that has a red tide. The Sea becomes more concentrated the tilapia die because of to little oxygen and the smell of that red tide becomes very strong. The winds are more often from the south and not as strong as when from the North, thus not blowing the smell away from the area. The pictures of the water were great, they did not show that we as a town on the shore have one of the few sand beaches. yes we all feel the abandoned buildings are a problem. Some are owned by the state and are just left when the older generation had medical to assist with their medical insurance. The buildings are not worth anything and often when the state leaves the situation alone. The properties then go to the county which doesn't tear them down either.our local people who have decided to use what walls are left for canvas for their art ,are usually kind in their choices of subjects. Any gang affiliation is usually painted over by the community. The houses were often started as vacation trailers with structures added over time, to expand the living areas. So this was not thought as decreasing the values of more proper residents. The ones that were explored are ,people homes who legally taken over or bought by IID ,Calif.State or the county and were never cleaned out by families of those once d love their home(many families live out of state). to those who watch this ,I ask come and look for your self, find the beauty of the Sea at Bombay beach. We have many kinds of residents there from first home buyer to extended families to snow birds,to people like my family and me,that enjoy the feel of a small community . There is quiet, the close feeling of knowing who lives next door and down the street. There is all of us who love the Sea,we now have events which include a music and arts festival in April. We like the Palm Springs area was ,are more of a ghost town in the summer, yet that leaves us with 8 months of living at the shore of a National Graphic wonder. There are rarely any boats on the water this is true, yet if you go to our beach and see someone out kayaking alone. It will most likely be me:Pamela , because here on the water it's me and the birds and fish,no drunk boaters to run me over or capsize me. Just me and mother nature.
The Salton Sea is a hugggee environmental problem. This is not just for the people there but also for the people down more south like LA and stuff. Not that Josh will read this comment, but if you (as in other viewers etc) want more history on the Salton Sea watch Viceland's "Abandoned" episode on it. Back in the mid 1960's my Dad was approached by a Real Estate Agent about buying property at the Salton Sea. He decided we should at least look at the place when we drove there on vacation. We spent two days there, and my Dad said, this place isn't worth the dirt it's built on and is going to be a rotten stink hole in twenty years. Well, I guess he was wrong about how soon it would happen, it took a bit longer than that, but, he was right about the cesspool it's turned into. I always wondered if that Real Estate Agent lost his shirt over that place?
i love the drone footage, I'd like to see more plz? there are tonnes of old abandoned mining towns in Australia, I believe there's one with a population of 1 person in it. I'd love to go see them.
You should come back again it has grown so much! There is a museum in an abandoned building built by other explorers. It is so much bigger now and the art there is absolutely insane! We just went today for my birthday and I was not disappointed. I have the most amazing pictures
Because it's pretty important to every single soul that has stepped foot in gta 5! Also for the place, i never thought i would feel bad for a town besides my own but yeah this one it really makes you feel bad for the folks that have spent time in there :(!
Josh, you should make a trip to Bayou Corne in Louisiana. Friends of ours had a camp there. We would go there each summer and take boats out on the bayou. It was a great place. In 2012 a sinkhole appeared in the bayou, due to the actions of a petroleum company that operated there. The sinkhole kept getting wider and wider. Methane gas became a danger, because it would get trapped under houses. The company bought the whole area out, and now the homes and camps sit abandoned. My mother and I rode out there last year to look. It looks like time stopped for one of the most beloved places from my childhood. We even saw our friends’ abandoned camp. It’s something to see.
hey Josh I remember when you posted this video I just went down there today after visiting joshua tree and totally forgot you posted this video and some of the places you went to including the diner I went to which is really interesting to me and when you where talking about the smell when I went down there today it smelt fine which is also kind of weird // keep up the great work man 👊

Exploring abandoned sites in USA 🇺🇸 is probably my biggest childhood dream this stuff blows me away even at 38 years old massive thank you and thumbs up for all of your work 🇬🇧+🇺🇸👍👍👍
Looks like a scene where they filmed from Terminator 2, the dessert
I used to go fishing out there with my gramps in the 1960’s. I wound up doing a post apocalyptic model shoot a couple of years ago.
This is got to be ur best video ive seen the history of this place is incredible
its so cool seeing this! i live about 30-40 mins from salton sea and ive always wanted to explore it
Fun fact: the Salton sea was created by accident during an irrigation project for the imperial valley.
I saw my grandmothers old house! You were in it!
sure u did
Lita I seriously doubt it
Her grandmother may have lived there once then left because of same reason other people left
That’s actually really cool
Would've been cool if u weren't lying
You're drone shots are on point. Keep up the good work man 👍
my grandpa used to take me fishing there as a kid. talk about memory lane. thanks for the cool videos
Lol probably
It's reminds of GTA V where Trevor lives.
It's based on this town
+Gtav online Gaming slab city (stab city)
+Liam O'Connor flab city 😂😂
David Morford Eveyone knows
Love your stuff Josh.
i love the drone footage, I'd like to see more plz? there are tonnes of old abandoned mining towns in Australia, I believe there's one with a population of 1 person in it. I'd love to go see them.
Imagine how spooky that neighborhood would look at night probably no streets lights only a few coming from some houses but most of them are dark
that city makes me remember tupac and the 90s
Most informative video I have seen regarding this area!! 👍👍👍
My addiction are these videos 😍 I love exploring
4:11 completely out of cigarettes. Damn. Time hasn't touched this place.
Omfg "we're in a ghost town the population is 300" my town has literally less than 150 xD
My town has less than 60
mine has around 40 ppl but the sign says 90
my town has 30
My town has 200,000 people
If your towns have a population of 150 and under then you don't live in towns. You live in villages or small hamlets or whatever they're called
You should come back again it has grown so much! There is a museum in an abandoned building built by other explorers. It is so much bigger now and the art there is absolutely insane! We just went today for my birthday and I was not disappointed. I have the most amazing pictures
Dude you totally rock, you're making me love Bombay beach
Anyone else get reminded of Sandy Shores from GTA 5?
I sooo did by the intro
Ya lol
I thought that immediately when I saw it , sandy shores for sure
that's what it is. I saw it when they walked in the pub/diner.
Yep LOL
95% of comments Isnt this where trevor lives?
Who's trevor
Because it's pretty important to every single soul that has stepped foot in gta 5!
Also for the place, i never thought i would feel bad for a town besides my own but yeah this one it really makes you feel bad for the folks that have spent time in there :(!
But it's also pretty fucking beautiful tbh
Zirfx haha yup! That where he lives! Lol
An interesting place to visit. Awesome video.
"... It's hot..." *wears jacket and scarf*
I wonder if you can catch any Pokémon there.
lol
if there is a church there is a poke gym.
LOL xD
