  • We tested a few modern takes on a Telecaster, both under $400.00. These are not by Fender, but boutique-style guitars made by Michael Kelly Guitars. ‪@JayLeonardJ‬ tests the Michael Kelly 58 Thinline, and ‪@60CycleHumcast‬ is on the Michael Kelly 59 Thinline. Which do you prefer?

    I compared the 3 way and 4 way switch thinline 59 guitars side by side at a music store and I ended up taking home the 3 way switch version with the P90s. They were definitely different variations of the p90 pickups, and I didn't like the 4 way switch tones at all, but the 3 way switch tones I really liked. I play it all the time even though I have other "higher end" guitars. I ended up buying another Michael Kelly Mod Shop 50 "Kellycaster" just today, and it plays incredibly well after a minimal setup. Overall, I'm really impressed with these Michael Kelly guitars. Great review guys!

    Michael Kelly really makes some fantastic guitars. They are beautiful to look at, play and listen to. I really like the black Kellycaster with the cream binding and p90's. I played one at Sam Ashe the other day and was blown away.

      That likely was the same 59 Thinline model as what we had since they do offer it in black. Thanks for adding your experience to the dialog here.

    I have had that ‘59 for just over a year. I put Ernie Ball magnums on it and tuned it down to C standard. Lovely guitar. Plays great.
    I also own an MK custom shop tele that I’ve heavily customized as my main country machine.

      Oh yeah: I did the Bill Lawrence five way switching mod on the ‘59.

    P90s sound great until the distortion comes on with all the . . . added noise.

    • @NoFearGuitarGear
      @NoFearGuitarGear  Місяць тому

      Without a doubt that is a key limitation for any instrument with a standard P90. We did not find that to be a big issue in this case, but that is compared to other P90's, but compared to humbuckers or other noiseless pickups that is a concern for sure.

    Yikes! Once again, this format has the feel of a home shopping channel.
    Yeah, we know the culture of "guitar demo videos" it opportunistic and ephemeral, but this has brought it to a new low. Give the guys some more time with the instruments BEFORE you bring them in, or else you're gonna have this inauthentic, superficial vibe where you try to get by solely on the chemistry of the on-screen personalities.

    I dont want to sound like a dickhead, but the studio is really brightly lit and open and...this felt somewhat scripted on dialogue to such a degree that it sort of was like the mall ninja knife channel or the home shopping network. So in the spirit of unsolicited youtube comments made by a person with neither your skill nor even your experience in broadcast; allow me to offer you some tips. Dampen the studio so that it has more of an intimate or personal appeal. Play the guitar a little more, albeit...i suspect you played these exactly as much as MK paid for the segment. Be invited to point your next manufacturer to comments to indicate more honest demonstration sells units, and coincidentally costs more for people who have more time practicing guitar than doctors and lawyers spent in school PLUS who have expended money and time developing a media presence.
