His sister and the locals have been doing what they can to make known the potential damaging impact this structure could cause to their ocean environment…and all for three days of competition!

Do a worldwide Go Fund Me with help from environmentalists, surfers friends & fans to save Teahupoo Reef... pay off the lawsuit & fire the people who made this terrible decision.

All the surfers and sponsors should make a clear statement: If they push through their terrible plans and destroy the coral reef, none of them should compete and the whole world should boycot the total olymipcs..

Matahi you are correct, there are alternative ways to still hold the contest even without the tower. I think all of us have seen past Olympic locations that are left a mess...this is one of the most beautiful places on the earth and is worth protecting. Good job and good luck with your efforts!

I don't think it will "destroy" the reef, that's hyperbole. That said the tower does seem pretty excessive. They should just use the old tower. Pretty shitty the way the locals are being blackmailed with the threat of having to move the event.

Can't they temporarily anchor a barge in a calmer water area with a tower built on the barge? Long lenses on the cameras can easily capture the footage from a rather far distance.....

As an Olympic event it should be held in a wave pool. This way every athlete has equal opportunity.
But part of being a good surfer is being able to read the waves and choose the best ones.
Wavepools are not the proper way of showing our sport. Surfing is about conencting with the ocean. It would be like if the Le Mans has held on a gokart-track.
Wavepools are the natural Olympic spectator environment. Just like skateboarding is naturally an urban activity, but held in a skatepark for comps. .. plus... surfing is NOT a sport@@falkofscrum

Why dont they rent/hire a really decent boat that can come and go from an already passage for boats to bring the judges etc on ,and contruct a tower on the boat for viewing for the judges.that simple bruv
Say it like it is. The Olympics needs to happen in a wave pool. Natural places are priceless and irreplaceable. Surely 'Chopes' is famous enough for the locals to benefit from visitors without having ANY competitions there. Commercialisation of natural resources is ALWAYS a fuck up.
