For those wondering why he wasn’t worried about getting sprayed:
It’s usually easy to know when a skunk feels threatened and might spray; they often paw the ground and hiss to warn you off first. This one showed no signs of feeling threatened or distressed, so there was no reason to think it might use its defensive spray.

@@nokiot9 I volunteer at a wildlife rescue organization. Someone there gets sprayed at least once a year and it's not that hard to clean off, and the only skunks that don't display the warning behavior are some of the babies. Last time someone got sprayed on my shift I didn't even know it happened until they told me and they actually laughed about it. Eye harm is rare unless you've leaned over to be right up close to them, and the harm is temporary.

Skunks earned my love for this behavior. I was weeding an overgrown garden bed and found a nest of wasps that were very upset about me clearing out the cover and chased me pretty far. Next day the nest was dug up and gone. Skunk got revenge for me.

I had a pet skunk many yrs ago. The little fella was adorable! However, not a great house pet and it seldom used the litter box! The little critter would go under the couch and would put up a fight when I tried to pull him out. I was bitten plenty of times. I don't remember any of its bites breaking the skin and I quickly realized being bitten was no big deal. Seeing this little guy almost makes me want another one. I had a yellow jacket nest in my front yard....discovered while mowing couple weeks ago.....got popped on the knee. Anyway, I decided to monitor the nest before deciding how to get rid of it before the next mowing. Well, just two days ago, I went out to look and something had dug a hole there and ALL of the wasps were gone! Saved me the trouble of exterminating them!

A couple of years ago, yellow jackets had built an underground nest next to my fence. Every time I tried to mow the lawn near it, I was attacked and stung by the yellow jackets. I tried all kinds of pesticides to get rid of them, but nothing worked. One night I smelled the strong odor of skunk. The next morning I saw a big hole scattered with the destroyed comb of the yellow jacket nest. Not a single yellow jacket remained. I have a newfound appreciation of skunks now!

My nest of yellow jackets just loved the butterscotch discs I put out for them this August. It kept them from trying to get my coffee all August. We've had three big nests dug out in the last three nights. I didn't know if it was a bear, skunk, raccoon, or possum. Whichever it is, keep it up. The yellow jackets have been awful this season. There are at least 25 - 50 in my hummingbird feeder every other day.

My grandad actually had a hornet issue in the front yard for a few years running when I was small. They'd set up residence in an old, sunken stump, and he couldn't get rid of them for anything... then one early fall day he woke up to a crater in the yard with a family of raccoons clustered around and in it. They ate *everything*.
