Former IT nerd here. As soon as Keith said '4096' I knew what happened. When I saw "Pt. 1" in the title, I hesitated, because in an on-demand platform like UA-cam, it's preferable for me to wait and binge the entire series... but true crime videos are almost never more than two parts, so I decided I wasn't waiting, since I'm off work on Sunday nights anyway.
Wow, as a Belgian, I'm so glad you're covering this case! Another crazy a$$ unsolved one over here is that of the butcher of Mons who was active in 1996-1997 and was never identified. It hasn't been much covered on an international scale, despite heavy suspicions of the perpetrator (or perpetrators) having just passed through Belgium, as the crimes stopped as abruptly as they started. Also, the military headquarters of NATO are based just outside of Mons (less than 10km), which led to a lot of speculation... It would be awesome if you'd consider covering this twisted and fascinating case!
in Italy we had a similar series of very violent crimes in the early '90... they caught them, and two members were policemen! I wonder if they were inspired by the Brabants...
Only complaint...too short. So sad it ended and cant wait for part 2. Excellent as always. I love you both. You are witty, smart af, and hysterical! Your banter is precious. Sin é. Go raibh maith agat.
I’m on vacation starting today, and I’m glad I can kick it off with my favorite podcast and crocheting! Thanks Mike and Keith for another great video, I’m looking forward to hearing the rest of the case 😊❤
That story at the start is fascinating, I fell in that rabbit hole after the Radiolab episode Abt it...m def recommend listening AFTER finishing that chapter ❤, of course
I hear _"Jeanne de Marie"_ every time you say "gendarmerie." I think "zhand armory" would probably be closer (like "john'd," but with a French J. To really sound French you'd have to give the Rs a light roll.)
Thought about it, Mike/Keith, absolutely the best podcast ever,💯also, I thoroughly enjoy, reading the comments, where people are at that very moment in time last receiving the notification ,yeah, even the negative which I just keep going, but thumbs up everybody, it’s always a great ride with the boyzies 💯👍🏻✌🏻💞😎
I remember New Year’s Eve 1981. I went to Times Square in NYC, drank a warm gallon of cheap white wine followed by beers at McSorley’s (the famous Irish ale house with awful beer), lost a shoe and had a week long hangover. Which my mother made sure to exacerbate at every opportunity.
It sounded like something I remember well from when I grew up, but it took me ages to realise that you were talking about what we knew as the Bende van (Gang of) Nijvel.
The cooking oil says to me that there is (or at least was) a very terrified woman who knew who this gang was. Can you imagine asking your husband to pick up some cooking oil from the store and him coming back and being like “Here,” with this evil gleam in his eye and you hear on the news about the robbery? Chilling.
What a great choice for the podcast. Being from the Netherlands I have heard of the bende of Nijvel as we know the Brabant killers, but didn't know the details. What a crazy bunch😬
Mike would be interested to know that the French name for one of his favourite police forces, RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) which he pronounces like OrSeeEmP is GRC (La GENDARMERIE Royale du Canada).
I don't know if you guys would be interested, but it would be interesting to hear what you think of the Westies gang, here in America, in Hell's Kitchen, NYC. When I was younger, I loved how insane they were, but my own life was on the street, breaking laws, getting in fights, etc.
very scary story. Shame it was never solved. The idea that these were actually hits, like the son of sam killings were actually mob hits against people who were set to testify in mob cases, is very interesting
Please tell me, the security guard that was killed at the bullet proof vest factory, was he NOT wearing a bullet proof vest? 😂😂 And also, yeah, gas doesn't explode, gas fumes explode. You can leave a bucket of gas outside for a day or so, throw a match in it and nothing will happen.
You guys should look into the murder of Peter R de Vries and the link to the Moroccan Mafia in his murder. Peter R de Vries is most known internationally from the Nathalie Holloway case, because of the Joran van der Sloot interview.
"Gendarme" is a policeman, a man with a gun (gens = people, arme = gun) "Gendarmerie" is the name of the institution that gathers all the "gendarmes" and is also the common term used for the building where the police station is. French people go to the "gendarmerie" to report a crime.
26:18 They did. It was Busted mainly because you'd need incendiary rounds, a lot of them, to riddle a gas tank enough to cause it to explode. In most normal cases with normal bullets? Not unlikely.
Also they busted setting a gas station on fire with a cig even if it was dropped directly in a trail of gas leading to the pump and adding various static electricity and anything else that could be thought of as a hypothetical
Anyone who wants a deep dive on this case and others from Belgium (and other places) should check the podcast "Ghost Stories for the End of the World".
3:53 Depending upon the part of Belgium, the generally-spoken language will be French, German or Dutch; everyone there speaks all three, as well as English 👍👍👍👍 Belgium's a lovely country, it's like France, but without the French, and I'd highly recommend it as a destination 👍👍👍👍
U guys need to edit all the silly girly stuff. I don't smoke the devils lettuce and I just listened to the whole podcast and all i got nothing out of it. Im sure yu could care less if i dont listen but im done with your gitty duel podcasts. Sometime go back and listen yourselfs and you will know what im talkin about. Of course im from Boston.

Almost glad my dog threw up and then my washing machine flooded my basement so I could be up 7 minutes after the pod!
😂 i mean... sorry to hear that, is your dog OK though? 😟
@jessicad83 thank you. She seems OK. Keeping an eye on her.
Awww bummer! My does threw up too but it was round 11pm but I had enough time to clean lol
I am very impressed by your ability to find the silver lining in that lol
You seem like a very "glass half full type"
My sister's peed on the bed (while I'm taking care of her of course). And she is not a small girl 😬
I HEAR YA BARKING BIG DOG!!! 🐶 love you Keith and Mike! Let’s give it a GOOOOO ❤

He just keeps getting better! ( But I do miss his eyeglasses.)😂

You two are the best thing that ever happened to Monday 😂
Really good story
Hi guys Keith's story is like the brumeta triangle. There is one over lake Michigan thats why so many sunk ships. Its in lak Michigan in America

The reversed nicknames cracked me up!
I feel like these people killed Batman's parents
If you guys are up for some more crazy unsolved cases from belguim you should look into the Antwerp Diamant heist and the 'bende van Nijvel'!
I love the Dr Steve Brule clip you snuck in there 😂
Another great podcast! I hate the wait for the next one….😂😂😂❤❤❤😢
Hi from Scotland 🏴 via Tenerife 🏴
My Dad was raised in Brussels, it's on my bucket list to visit Brussels
Hell yeah!
OMG. Never heard of this. I live in Maryland. My last name is Brabant.
The amount of links the Brabant case has to the Pink Ballets and the Dutroux case is unbelievable.
Oh you beat me to it! Very dodgy stuff
The wee lad, Napoleon 😂
I just fell more in love with Mike for the F1 reference ❤❤
Cosmic rays, bit flips. Ok, I love Keith

Nice research Benji 🌟
Can’t wait for pt.2 lol

I live in Overijse, where one of these attacks happened at the Delhaize. Finaly i can relate haha

Solar flares can cause the wrong person to win an election or planes to possibly crash but God forbid the ATM gives me extra money.
I remember they were called 'de bende van Nijvel'. named after one of their first heist in Nijvel (bende = gang)
Good morning boys 🎉
You guys should look into the murder of Peter R de Vries and the link to the Moroccan Mafia in his murder. Peter R de Vries is most known internationally from the Nathalie Holloway case, because of the Joran van der Sloot interview.
Nothing screams gangster more than stealing tea, coffee and cooking oil 😂
Yay!!

Austin Allegro and sporty was never mentioned, not in the 80s😂😂
Q: do you think they could be Robin Hooding and supporting a shelter or something?
26:18 They did. It was Busted mainly because you'd need incendiary rounds, a lot of them, to riddle a gas tank enough to cause it to explode. In most normal cases with normal bullets? Not unlikely.

Hey, it takes a lot of canolas just to make a single bottle of oil.
Yes, Keith- it's 'outtie'.
lmao
Sweetberry winnnnne
French and Flemish I think
The Dutch region Brabant exists way longer. That is where the name Brabant actually come from.
As far as i know Brabant is a part of the Netherlands for a long time now...
Yeah originally it’s Dutch. But you got a “Vlaams Brabant”. Dat is in België.
It's 'inaudible' Mike. Sorry, can't help it : English teacher. Love you both x
Isn’t there a creepy old ball up in Keith’s attic that he won’t touch? No ball in the house doesn’t apply to dead kids.
❤❤
OMG, a week is sooooo long……. See you next Monday! 😁
💚
Anyone who wants a deep dive on this case and others from Belgium (and other places) should check the podcast "Ghost Stories for the End of the World".
Does anyone know the podcast episode where Mike explains why he calls Regina the Warthog?
These guys remind me of famed French crook Jacques Mesrine
The police were clearly involved. Probably much higher people also.
FUMES are what ignite the petrol ⛽
2000 and tree 😂😂
Starts after 6 minutes….well 6:58 minutes.
I wonder if it was solar rays that caused the mess o:er here in 2020??????????? Or was it just corr...............upt.........ion.
👍🙂
These are the most aggressively French people of all time
This video
Marc dutroux link, very dodgy parties involving politicians again..
Only 39 minutes:(
3:53 Depending upon the part of Belgium, the generally-spoken language will be French, German or Dutch; everyone there speaks all three, as well as English 👍👍👍👍

Girls drink wine 😂
1st comment????
.....arsehiles
Keith- I can't believe you didn't correct Mike on his pronunciation of Mercedes. That was cringe as hell
I think he did it intentionally after the Audie commentary lol
U guys need to edit all the silly girly stuff. I don't smoke the devils lettuce and I just listened to the whole podcast and all i got nothing out of it. I suggest you take a few English classes and brush up on your keyboarding skills, kid.
Your comment reads like a child wrote it.
You don’t smoke weed cuz you’re too busy smokin’ crack, with all that gibberish you’re spouting 😂
Now I want waffles 🧇. Love you guys!
