yea great catches and video of this recent meet and the CSX stacker meeting up too
Nice catches of the Amtrak's Crescent Limited and a CSX intermodal freight train! I like the old factory smokestacks in the background, the old factories, the old train station platform, and an old steel mill in the background, including the old bridges and other old buildings! Really nice video!
@joshua ashley Yes, they do.
i remember back in the 90s they could have two in the station at a time i don't know why they removed the track from the other side of the canopy
I love it! Birmingham is my station stop on my summer vacation and it’s ALWAYS busy while I’m there waiting. Several trains per hour every time I’ve been there. Will be there again in July!
awesome video :)
I ride 19 from Hattiesburg to Philly often. I know it's usually late so I plan everything as if it were to arrive two hours later than the schedule says. Interestingly, once the train is past Atlanta (northbound), it rarely has any issues.
Normally, they would meet at Woodstock, west of Bham...but this happens often now...19 is usually late...
Is there secure car parking at the Amtrak station?
The station is squarely downtown so there is plenty of secure parking available!
That pair of platforms is in dire need of modern renovation.
They built a whole new terminal and such but never touched the old platform, I really hope they remodel it one day. Not sure why they didn't renovate it along with the construction of the new terminal.
This wouldn’t happen if 19 is always late
Why didn't the first Amtrak train conductor just leave the switch thrown towards the platform if he knew the second train would need it set in that position while exiting the station? Typical RR mentality. Still stuck in the 19th century. "Floatin like a baby bumble-bee........." No wonder everyone flys today.
Or a manifest could come thru dumbass
Let’s frame it another way: Why isn’t this switch remotely controlled?
@@fakecumberland Whoa! Slow down Ben Franklin! What do you think this is? The 20th century or something?!? Good (switch) point! LOL1
@@SomeRamdomAhole And no one would be expecting that. No dispatcher could ever anticipate that possibility and put the manifest on one of the other 6 available tracks. Creep into the station like a turtle and then "fly" out like a snail. This is why Amtrak sucks. I bet u wear a helmet while driving your car,
@joshua ashley Around 125 MPH in some places on the Northeast Corridor.
Whole system looks crazily outdated.
