Ginger knows her herstory and totally 'got it'. She really gave Harvey some 'naches' . The tears of joy really moved me as a reflection of a glittering career and a genuine contribution to gay life, human rights and the evolution of the modern performer.
Your commentary absolute ACE! So thankful to Mr. Fierstein for his trailblazing fearlessness, activism and all-round humanity. And for living out loud his own mantra: "I am what I am!" for so this 42-year old blk kid from Texas who needed every hero he could find to know he was worth the fight.
Cause people thought she was "a bitch" which yes she was bitter but she isn't like that anymore and her talent go beyond a lot of the season 7 queens, especially pearl...
I agree, I didn't like Ginger's attitude on the show, but that never stopped me from realizing that she was incredibly well rounded. Plus she SHOWED her acting and comedy chops, and stated on the show that she was able to sing as well. What I find most shocking is that this wasn't made a duet with Adore. I think their voices would have paired wonderfully with each other! Now I'm yearning for a live singing number on a reunion like they do with dancing. I could see Jinkx, Ivy, Ginger and Adore doing something stellar. No I didn't leave out Courtney Act. I just think her singing voice is....more of an acquired taste.

oh my gosh, didn't even THINK of that, fantastic point, Stephanie. Ginger's truly amazing. I watched front row at ther one-night only Double Wide Diva double-concert in Orlando last year. Ginger was sooooo loving and kind, and in between concerts I met Ginger and talk about down to earth and in the 2nd concert Ginger pointed to me at the start of Double Wide Diva and said, "it's your favorite song!", which I had stated when I talked to her. How could Ru not pick her to win, which would expose her to millions more as a "winner" of RPDR. My friend swears Ru doesn't want her to become bigger than her LOLLLLL He said that he loved Alyssa, but after seeing all the clips of Ginger he never would have seen without me showing him, he realized Ginger is one of the top talents to come out of that show.
I met Ginger a couple of years ago at Dragworld UK & told her how absolutely wonderful this performance was. She sang it the night previously at the Dragball too and it was perfect. She was so sweet and kind.
Ginger just finished a run of Le Cage Aux Falles in Chicago, and did a one night only performance of her Double Wide Diva album in Orlando, and now is the headliner at Rupaul's Drag Race Live in Vegas for the next month! She's clearly the major talent out of season 7 - acting, singing, comedy and she is cute as a button in person!
MORE than just qualified; check out Jinx (as Little Edie) singing I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables. The sound quality of the recording isn't great and doesn't do justice to the range and power of her voice, but anyone watching will agree that she belongs on Broadway.
Ginger said that her last drag performance would be her singing this again, so I decided to Google it and I felt so happy while watching this. My jaw was open the entire time. I even shed a tear because of how excellent her performance was. Impeccable, Ginger! I hope you make it to the top 4 of All Stars 6, good luck!
Harvey fierstein is his name . The song " I am what I am " came from his book so to be play. That's why he is so emotional . He is watching someone preform the song that it was suppose to inspire
Jennifer Haining Though I get what you are saying, there is no such thing as a gay "lifestyle" in much the same way there is no such thing as a straight lifestyle.
Sorry grrls lets get our Herstory right. With solid props to Harvey Firestein: "I Am What I Am" is a song originally introduced in the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical La Cage aux Folles. The song is the finale number of the musical's first act, and performed by the character of Albin Mougeotte, first played by George Hearn. His version appears on the original cast album released in 1983. The song was composed in 1973 by Jerry Herman, an openly gay man.
Come on, let's face it. Ginger has to be one of the most talented and likeable queens to ever grace the RPDR franchise! This video will forever remain in my list of Best Ever performances by a Drag Race Gurl! So many queens have walked through the doors of Drag Race, but one thing is for sure, you will never find another Ginger Minj! A True Winner of the Drag Race Franchise!
This only worked so well because Ginger's actually legitimately talented, like, she could genuinely be in a professional theatre production. She's not just a queen with a gimmick.
This performance brings tears to my eyes everytime. Ginger is incredibly talented! I'm so glad she got to perform this for Harvey Fierstein, no other drag queen could have done it better.
Lyrics for anyone who wants them; I am what I am I am my own special creation So come take a look Give me the hook or the ovation It's my world that I want to have a little pride in My world and it's not a place I have to hide in Life's not worth a dam 'Til you can say I am what I am I am what I am I don't want praise, I don't want pity I bang my own drum Some think it's noise, I think it's pretty And so what if I love each feather and each bangle Why not try to see things from a different angle Your life is a sham 'Til you can shout out, I am what I am I am what I am And what I am needs no excuses I deal my own deck Sometimes the ace, sometimes the deuces It's one life and there's no return and no deposit One life. So it's time to open up your closet Life's not worth a dam 'Til you can say 'hey world, I am what I am'

can we talk about how unique Tatianna's choreography was at 2:51?? Something about her not facing the front, but using the reverse hand gestures and then turning around to put the same hand up was just so.. enticing to me. Well-executed performance!

I came here to see how Phi phi and alyssa interact on stage. lol knowing what happened and then coming back and watching this again? and seeing how phi phi acts now... its so weird.
Just let Ginger have her fucking moment without comparing her to other queens or trying to prove that she's relevant. Just let her talent shine and embrace it, enjoy it, live in it and be happy for her cause we all deserve it. Stop putting people down, stop the hate. End this cycle and LOVE.

oh my gosh, didn't even THINK of that, fantastic point, Stephanie.
Am I the only one who would live to hear Ginger do a duet with John Barrowman?!?! Showtunes extravaganza!
I’d love to see them do La Cage Aux Folles together. With Ginger playing Zaza and John Barrowman as George.
YESSS GIVE IT TO ME
Honey, I'd live for that
This is my 3rd time watching this, and I'm so blessed to have had the chance to hear this.
I keep on watching it more than thrice!
I never knew Ginger could sing like that! This was wonderful and beyond!
Look at her all stars performance sheer ( she was on the same season as Tatianna )
I met Ginger a couple of years ago at Dragworld UK & told her how absolutely wonderful this performance was. She sang it the night previously at the Dragball too and it was perfect.
She was so sweet and kind.
easily the most talented and best big girl who ever set foot in RPDR, latrice is a close second. No wonder Ginger is for AS6, cant wait
I‘m sure, she will win. All be big Girls were strong. It‘s really time for them.
Just look at Mr. Fierstein's reaction! Such joy and honour! Thank you Ginger!
He was moved to tears and overjoyed. So happy to see it.
Danny Devito was serving it!!! YASSS!
The Danny devote to of drag
Lmao
2024 and still here watching this epic performance.
Ginger as Edna Turnblad plz
Ginger as Tracy Turnblad plz!
No, I would love to have Ginger as Ursula in a Little Mermaid real life remake!
For once we need an actual drag queen playing drag roles on broadway. Jinkx and Ginger are more than qualified.
MORE than just qualified; check out Jinx (as Little Edie) singing I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables. The sound quality of the recording isn't great and doesn't do justice to the range and power of her voice, but anyone watching will agree that she belongs on Broadway.
oh my god yes
2:38 that hopeful look of them while holding hands and smiling and this epic song and everything OMG I got chills! So beautiful!
THE WINNER OF AS6, GINGER MINJ! Here’s to the best of the best
I BET MY WHOLE HOUSE ON HER WINNING!! 💗
I need her to win. She deserves that crown more than anyone else.
Same here. I know she will win
Sonique gonna win !
Predicted 😎
When the guy started crying so did I.... honestly I never thought i'd love to see a day where drag means something on this levl
The guy? You mean the living legend
facts are facts!!
I think seeing dragrace girls performing in a venue like this says a lot about how far we've come.
Bumped into this via recommendations and I'll just be crying over here
Come on, let's face it. A True Winner of the Drag Race Franchise!
talented, yes definitely, likeable? not so much, but who wants to be
She's still adorable even when she's throwing shade 🤣
Am I the only one who thinks Ginger Minj should be on Broadway?
I’d go watch her
@@tattie.b8594 We all would.
You killed it @GingerMinj !!
She won't see that....
+Nolan Dempsey she won't see that either
+Skull Kid she won't see that too.
+Nolan Dempsey she won't see that either
+Skull Kid she won't see that one too
seriously... how can you not LOVE Harvey tearing up at 1:14. Ginger, gurlllll you and the others did amazing!
DISNEY please watch this and cast Ginger as Ursula xoxo
WHAT 💀💀💀
Good choice I prefer harvey fierstein
This is exactly why Ginger deserves a win this season of All Stars. She’s brilliant.
One of the best performances of this song I’ve ever seen. Ginger balances the fragility and strength exquisitely
This never fails to make me cry.
By far the best version of this song. A beautiful tribute sung by a beautiful soul.
Phi Phi looks phenomenal.
you can so feel how much this song means to her (Ginger) and that she has lived through and felt every single word of it. Go for it, Girl! amazing
Admit it, this is a frequent visit. Iconic.
This is not "All Star Cast performs", this is "Ginger Minj performs"! She should be rightfully credited
Lyrics for anyone who wants them;
I am what I am
I am my own special creation
So come take a look
Give me the hook or the ovation
It's my world that I want to have a little pride in
My world and it's not a place I have to hide in
Life's not worth a dam
'Til you can say I am what I am
I am what I am
I don't want praise, I don't want pity
I bang my own drum
Some think it's noise, I think it's pretty
And so what if I love each feather and each bangle
Why not try to see things from a different angle
Your life is a sham
'Til you can shout out, I am what I am
I am what I am
And what I am needs no excuses
I deal my own deck
Sometimes the ace, sometimes the deuces
It's one life and there's no return and no deposit
One life. So it's time to open up your closet
Life's not worth a dam
'Til you can say 'hey world, I am what I am'
need to go back here!! congrats ginger being casted again for ALLSTAR 6!! ✨😙
1.Wow, Ginger, wow! I was never a huge fan of her but this blew ne away, she's so so so talented!
2.Alaska is padded to the gods! That figure is gagging me!!! Absolutely beautiful!
3. Alyssa is a vision in yellow, love her and this look, gorg!
4. I really don't get all the Phi Phi hate, her season was soo long ago and all of that is behind her and she's really talented... oh, and for all of you that don't know, most of her arguments with sharon in season 4 were not real, they were faking it for attention, she talking about this on her interview on 'hey qween'
5.Tatianna looks absolutely gorgeous, she's one of the most beautiful queens out there.
I'm so excited for All Stars!!!! Can't wait, it's going to be on fire!!
phi phi still hates Sharon and she still talks shit
No phi phi does not still hate Sharon she acknowledges that their arguments on the show were played up in order to create drama and help them get to the top 3
no she doesnt
she's actually said great things about her and I'm pretty sure they worked together after Drag race.
i love your positivness
Boy did she. I felt her heartbeat in that performance
this performance always makes me cry because of harvey's reaction in the audience
I come back to this video every time I want to feel some feels in my heart from watching Harvey Fierstein weeping with joy.
This makes me so emotional every time I watch it no matter what, simply because of Fierstein's reaction. Truly such a wonderful piece of art!! Go Ginger!
I always cry when I watch this.
can we talk about how unique Tatianna's choreography was at 2:51?? Something about her not facing the front, but using the reverse hand gestures and then turning around to put the same hand up was just so.. enticing to me. Well-executed performance!
It’s just a gorgeous song and sentiment. Whether your a gym bro, twink, straight, gay, rich or poor. It’s just a great message ❤
Love how ginger sang the entire thing while the others just moved around her
WHY AM I ONLY SEEING THIS NOW 2019... Uhmazing. Slaaay
It's 2021 and I'm only just now seeing it 😅
Alaska looks like she wishes she was any where else but on that stage. Ginger minj is amazing, she didn’t need anyone else on the stage with her. She’s just amazing!
That’s Alaska’s normal face.
4 years later and this still move me !!!!
Alyssa and Tati specifically? Gorgeous.
Going back to this video, realizing how awkward Alyssa and Phi Phi were here.
Knowing that the show has already taped before this.
I came here to see how Phi phi and alyssa interact on stage. lol knowing what happened and then coming back and watching this again? and seeing how phi phi acts now... its so weird.
Neutrino Baterato Yes! Awkward no eye contact at 1:45 -- but I applaud the level of professionalism they displayed here.
yeesss alyssa is super professional :) this performance is amazing
what happened between alyssa and phi phi??!!!
aliciavicx watch the show, all stars 2, it's amazing
The genuine smile on Phi Phi.
rewatching this reaffirms my confidence that she’s getting the crown. i’m blown every time i watch her perform.
Just let Ginger have her fucking moment without comparing her to other queens or trying to prove that she's relevant. Just let her talent shine and embrace it, enjoy it, live in it and be happy for her cause we all deserve it. Stop putting people down, stop the hate. End this cycle and LOVE.
ckaji15 👏PREACH👏
Still brings a tear to my eye after all these years.
I never get tired of this video. Ginger is amazing!
Harvey has just deserved this performance as a big present for him.
The man in the audience at 01:05 makes a mimik which is gold worth .
I love this performance and the look on Harvey's face is priceless. Great job Ginger
Phiphi is sooooo gorgeous!! I cant believe people send her hate still to this day 😞😞 She’s one of the bests for sure ❤️
Ginger Minj you killed it girl. Tatianna you look fabulous as usual in my fave color 💓
I cried watching it, it was just that powerful. Such comfort and encouragement that I think we can all use.
I cried this was so beautiful
Three years later and this performance still has me shooketh. She's just *so* damned good, and the intensity -- such a theater kid!!
Phi Phi looks soo goood ❤
What an anthem !
I had to watch this a second time because my jaw was on the floor the first time.
Absolutely BREATHTAKING, Ginger is a true talent and it shows here. :)
I really hope she wins All Stars 6
Watching this 5 yrs later makes it even better
