    I took the UPCAT 43 years sgo. My parents were both college professors (severely underpaid back then) and told me if I didnt get accepted into UP Diliman they couldn't afford to send me to another school. That was the motivation i needed to pass.

    • @rebelnjmom
      @rebelnjmom 14 годин тому

      @@nolsp7240There were no extra points for children of faculty. I dunno if that changed after I left the country in 1993. A much higher score is required if you wanted to be in Diliman in a highly popular 'quota' course like engineering or accounting. Back then students who were not confident about performing well in the test played it safe by choosing another campus like Los Banos and a 'non-quota' course just to get in, but must maintain at least a 2.0 grade average to transfer campuses or switch courses. Another way in is by sheer talent: drawing test for the College of Fine Arts or auditions for the Music Conservatory.

    The UPCAT is a highly competitive exam. It’s not just about achieving a specific score but about ranking within a certain percentile. During my time, students were ranked based on scores from the national pool. However, I’ve heard that this time, the ranking system is regional, which aims to encourage admission from all regions of the country. This means you only compete against test-takers from your region rather than the entire nation. That said, if you’re from a region with tougher competition, good luck!

    Using shapes for abstract reasoning tells how a person thinks laterally under pressure and without relying on language or prior knowledge. It would really highlight a person's critical thinking and decision skills when placed on situations they've never encountered before. Pattern recognition is the most recognizable example of that, and that applies to many contexts.

    I think they're being nice so I want to shed light on how the UPCAT is severely behind state university entrance exams within the US. The major issue is it's literally textbook based not critical thinking. I passed the UPCAT back in 2013, but was given the choice to study abroad, which I took. I got three recommendations, University of Texas, West Virginia, and California. What I realized was taking their entrance exams was how modernized their academics were compared to UP....make no mistake UP is great but it's only standardized in comparison with community colleges state side. There is nothing wrong with community colleges, but there is a gap in specialization earnings. I graduated as a Kinesiologist at UT, then got my Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Texas Women's Uni. I ended up going back to the Philippines as a CI just to relax for a year, and I couldn't believe just how far behind modern medicine is in the Philippines. I'm wondering why this is like this and if students are aware?

    Years ago, my older brother applied to the PMA but the results didn't come out until August or September so my parents told him to apply to colleges so if he didn't get in, at least he wouldn't be too far behind. If he got in the PMA he could just drop out of whatever college he got into with zero repercussions from the parentals. As he didn't really care, he forgot about the testing date and went out with his buddies the night before. He took the UPCAT without any sleep, partyied the night before, and zero prep. He not only passed, he got into Civil Engineering, a quota course.

    25:30 That is because UPCAT is not really designed to determine your eligibility/ability. It is designed to weed out as much people as possible so as to only fill the limited slots. Even if every examinee in one year were to pass with extremely high scores, only a limited number of those will be admitted. They also look at your high school grades, which also has a cut-off. So even if you score very high, if you had average grades in even one subject, you're not likely to get in.

    Acceptance is based on a curve but given only around 12,000 students get accepted in all UP campuses each year, and you’re competing with ~100k applicants, it’s highly unlikely to pass with less than an 85% in the test.

    The answer to your Math question #1 is letter C. (0,1) is also (X,Y) if you substitute the value on equation 3 it will be equals to 4 😇

    • @ebelos01
      @ebelos01 7 годин тому

      The answer to your Math question #2 is also letter C. 64 (32*2) , 4th SQRT of 64 is 4, Mutiply the X and Y (their exp must be added) = X to the 6 power and Y to the 3rd power then SQRT them = 4x SQRT of X to the 2PWR and Y to the 3rd PWR

    imma be honest, i asked all my UP friends about the UPCAT to compare and we all agree that none of us know how we got accepted to UP lmao like i didn't finish my UPCAT coz of the right-minus-1/4wrong rule (1 point deduction for every 4 wrong answers) but if you don't answer a number, the checker doesn't count it in the grade so it doesn't consider it as right or wrong (aka no minus)

    what i disliked about UPCAT was that there were questions in Math and Science that were not in English 😅😅😅 they were written in Filipino 😂😂😂 took UPCAT in August 1995 ... once ur in UP, ul never forget ur student number since ul use it more than ur name in exams 😉😉😉 and if i remember it right, the passing score required for a quota course is higher compared to a non-quota course.

    That is actually not the hardest entrance exam. What makes it hard to get accepted in UP is the number of examinees and the slots available. Only the highest scorers get the slot, even if you passed.

    UPCAT is honestly not hard. What makes entering UP hard is the competition. You're not just aiming to pass the test-- you're actually aiming to be at top percentile of all the test-takers cos there's limited slots. But the test itself, I wouldn't consider it the hardest.
