In the late 60s, my dad was a driller, and mum, my big sister, and I would follow him in an FX Holden and an 18-foot Franklin caravan to all his contracts. We were in South Australia, and I was nearly 5, so mum wanted me to go to a real school, rather than keep doing 'Correspondence School'. That method of schooling was where all your work was sent to the nearest Post Office for your parents to collect. They'd teach all the lessons and send the results and work back to a head office to be marked and assessed. Anyway, we ended up in Beachport, and I spent my first year of school there. We lived in the caravan park when Beachport was a sleepy little town supporting the Crayfish processing plant. And finally, to get to the point, I still remember mum taking us up to Mt Gambier to see the Blue Lake. The colour still sticks in my mind. I also remember the surrounds were so Green. I was used to being in the SA outback.
Coming from outback SA it would of seemed like an oasis! Sure was compared to where we grew up. What a way to spend your early years following dad around to work, would of been bery different experience back then
Nearly 12 months since we had our visit to Mount Gambier. We visited several sink holes in the area. Beautiful place. Love little Liam’s hat, just like mum and dads, he looks so cute.
I visited the Umpherston Sinkhole last year and Mt Gambier. Being a Scottish Umpherston the sinkhole was a must. And Clem got the pronunciation right. It’s a difficult name so we don’t mind if someone gets it wrong. Fun fact though, no one knows exactly where the name came from but possibly the Netherlands and Belgium.

Hey buddy, Yes we have filmed the Ferry crossing and should be up by this Friday. How exciting for your parents to almost be ready for retirement! The Y62 and starcraft seems to be a very popular option for travellers, for me it is a very different set up to what we have so I can't really give appropriate advice. I would suggest maybe joining owners groups on Facebook or finding some other travellers that have a similar set up and pick their brains. unfortunately i know nothing of those weights, costs, model differences etc. Sorry i can't be more helpful but thats a bit out of my knowledge.
The new port at Geelong im told is pretty grouse. Head bonks to Curi & Kosta... sadly its the wrong time of year but youre not far from Casterton, where the Kelpie Muster happens, perhaps look it up and shove it into your bucket list. It really is a Kelpie owners dream.

We did swing by Casterton for a look and a photo. Took the pups to their ancestral town
