I would argue that perhaps more important than producer or vintage is the village that the wine comes from, at of course village appellation and above. I’d drink a village level Volnay, for example from nearly any producer over a Nuits St. Georges Premier Cru from any winery. I love Volnay, and when I can afford it, Chambolle Musigny.
