Oh bummer I thought you were going to say they banned forward facing sonar. Still a good move.
Hopefully soon....🇿🇦
I clicked thinking the same thing.
I was hoping the same.
Was hoping for the same too
I was hoping to hear that also. Frankly FFS could seriously hurt our sport. Imagine the meat hunters on the old 8 foot aluminum with FFS on it killing the fish in numbers unimaginable. Going to happen
People pass their driver's license test. That doesn't mean they drive safe once they get their license.
Gerald Swindle DQ at Bassmaster Classic. It was justified.
He wasn't dq'd, he lost his catch for that day
Gerald Swindel got DQed for unsafe boating. Blew past Randy Howell....on camera.
No Kiddimg, we ALL know this
A couple young ladies near me lost their lives in a boating accident just the other day. I'm glad Bassmaster is taking this step
Louisiana??
Imagine KVD showing up to your boater safety course to get certified 😂😂😂
Why is KVD a better human being than the rest of us .
I don't think the "boater safety" class will be w just any Tom,Dick, Harry
If iaisosiisieoeieiw
Those goobers are still going to be dangerous even if they take a class
Thata way to be Positive
@@scottbassman123 did he say goobers?? ;)
The boaters safety course is just an online class that takes 4 hours to complete.
You can get a little insurance break for having it.
BASSMASTERS probably only did this for legal reasons . . . and or a financial break on their insurance as well.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and keep your videos coming please.
It's for Insurance, Liability purposes.
No, is a safety issue. It is a fishing tournament not NASCAR !!!
Shoot, I still have a hell of a time backing a boat down a boat ramp!!! 🤦🏼♂️
I've had Water Patrol not know the concept of "port to port" when meeting an oncoming boat. They ran me into the trees since I kept veering to my starboard and they veered toward their port!.
Restrictor plate bass fishing. I'm All for it.
Gerald Swindle was disqualified from the 2007 Bassmaster Classic for unsafe boating when he ran through a crowd of spectator boats that were following Randy Howell. While Howell waved Swindle through, Swindle kept going on plane instead of slowing down and idling past everyone. He passed within a few feet of a camera boat that was filming Howell; when the camera crew showed the video to the tournament director, Swindle was DQ'd. He would have been in contention to win the tournament had he not made this bad decision.
I say screw them people. Nobody should be allowed on the lake during a major event... Including a camera boat. Luv ya Gerald ✌️🎣
@@randymiller5008 wait, nobody should be allowed on a “public” lake during a bass tournament??? That’s the dumbest thing I will read today.
@@ericcooper8907 I agree lol.
@@ericcooper8907exactly
We ALL know this, he want dq'd, he lost his catch for 1 day
Yeah I took a boaters safety course for work. It was fine for navigation rules but did nothing to teach me the nuances of handling a bass boat.
Here in East Tennessee it has gotten out of hand the number of boaters that seem to be oblivious to or just don’t care about boater safety or boater etiquette😡 And the sad truth is wildlife resources, and Coast Guard have been cut to a bare minimum. Leaving everyone to fend for their self🥴
I agree. I have stopped fishing on weekends.
We have that problem here in Wisconsin. They are called FIB’s from Illinois, and Mud Ducks from Minnesota. They think just because they have a cabin on a lake it is a license to be Butt Hole.
Right on Randy , I’m with you on this! Everything you said is a TRUE Story💪🏼
It reminds me of what I’ve seen in high performance cars. Just because you drive a high performance car that does not make you a high performance car driver.
I actually learned alot of things i didnt know when i took the boater safety course and the motorcycle safety course.
Nice video. I just ordered a couple of Lew's reel using your link.
G-man was DQ for cutting in between a boat in a tournament and the angler even waved him through bass still DQ him.
Yeah, he probably would have won that tournament also. If he had kept his head and not acting the way he did. It's was very stupid.
I remember Fishing a Bfl event on the Potomac River three or four years ago. One thing about the Potomac, when the wind gets up and it goes against the tide, things can get very treacherous. My buddy, who was a co, had a boater who was 16 years old and this was his first Bfl. When my buddy inquired about whether or not he was comfortable running in rough water, the kid told him he was, he had watched the UA-cam video the night before on how to run in rough water.😂😂. The result was my buddy on the front of his boat as it was sinking in the middle of the river calling 911 screaming SOS. luckily they were saved in time. This is a much needed step at all levels.💯
which gets rough the Potomac or the Bay?
@@michaelumucslie4410 probably the bay(i’m assuming you mean up near Harve de Grace, and not necessarily the Chesapeake Bay itself), but when tournaments launch from Smallwood State Park in Mattawoman Creek, things can get very rough at the mouth of that creek. It is the widest area on the river, which allows the wind to build up, especially when it’s fighting the tide.
Loving the hat!!! 🤠 How about that"Tackle room tour" 🤔
State of va done this years ago. Boaters safety. Itcwas 15yrs ago. I was 35 and had owned boats since 1994. Im 51 now. This is long ocer due. I have seen some crazy things on the water. I just said to myself God please speak to them and show them that they are going to kill someone.
Randy, we met one day fishing on Wilson lake in Alabama. I didn't say anything to you that day but I had a boater go between me and the bank going about 60 mph and never even blinked and you're right there's no reason for it there's no reason for it and it's dangerous I almost bailed out of my boat no
Damn, I was expecting something like "limit of 2 displays on a boat" or something good.
Wow, I'm shocked this wasn't a thing long ago. What a great way to work with water safety and Coast Guard folks for a cross promotional thing. I just see lots of benefits there.
Gotta tell ya, I remember the old days man. Remember those tall, black Merc's on 20 footers trying to imitate those "Skeeter" commercials. Me and a buddy were out fishing on a popular lake in Michigan and there was some kind of amateur fishing tourney that day. The lake, it's got 2 sandbars, everyone knows about them. Pretty obvious with people playing frisbee, sitting in lawn chairs in the water. This dude with his buddy come flying from the ramp. I told my buddy, "listen to this, wait for it" ... sure enough 50mph to half the lower gearcase/prop plowing through sand. Took about 20min, most likely a prop change and they went flying again right by us. Funny part is, lake isn't but 3 miles from ramp to the farthest lilies.
I think it is well thought and said.
About 10 years ago Ontario, CA made everyone no matter what your boating skills are take a boating safety test and you either took Ontario's test (it was 50 bucks, not sure if this changed or not) or they would honor the state that you recided from. In Ohio (it is free for Ohio residents) if you were born before Jan 1st, 1982 we are grandfathered in however I took it anyway so that I was covered for when I went up to go fishing in Ontario. This is a good thing that has taken place and thanks for sharing this with us Randy!
Didn’t realize there was a Lake in Ontario, Ca big enough to drive a boat on.
@@bobbarnhill8557 Ontario Canada. There was an accident that happened up there, from what I was told a young kid got on a jet ski and took out two people in a canoe that did not end well so they clamped down on boaters safety.
I fished BASS Invitationals from 1991 to 1995 and tried to suggest that back then. It’s about time, you can’t even operate a boat in PA, NJ or CT without one.
I align with Randy on almost every subject. 😮
I agree 100percent I'm coast guard certified sense 1998 I bet no one gets dq for safety even with this but hopefully they will the water is dangerous in a blink of a eye 😮
Unfortunately boaters safety course is not going to do a thing. It’s kinda like saying because you passed your drivers license test means you’rea good driver.
It been mandatory in NJ since the 80’s even with no motor. There is only a few lakes that are unlimited HP. Most Lake are Electric motors only and some others are 9.9hp.
Saw aftermath of terrible accident on Smithville in Mo during Red Man tournament. One boat T boned another right at the console and flew over it. Never did hear if there were fatalities
Okay good points. When you talk about boater safety I keep hearing the word speed, how about the conditions? People knowingly run skinny water, narrow ditches (WOT) and on purpose large wave rough conditions instead of just NOT TRYING to make it to an area with prior knowledge of how rough it is?
With respect to non boater participants they simply just don't come back for more life threatening fun. For these reasons I wont ride with anyone I do not know.
I get your message and if it saves one life or prevents an injury this is a good thing. it was a great video. Thank you.
Maybe bassmasters need to get in touch with DNR the local sheriff offices that have boats on the water to help patrol these situations. You know they're out there on the recreational guy checking their license and stuff. Maybe they need to start doing that to the pros too
I have never understood why there isnt a speed limit on the water !
Your beloved Bassmaster is currently holding a tournament here in Oklahoma in 100 degree temps while stuffing fish in livewells. They have to fix that Randy! Can’t be beating these fish around in livewells when it’s that hot.
Several States started doing boater safety course requirment to operate boats several years ago and has not change how they drive or safety boating.
Is running 60-65 mph mentioned at any time during a boaters SAFETY coarse ?
I gave a thumbs down, because passing a boater’s safety course doesn’t mean crap. Ray Scott and his 150 Hp limit was the greatest rule of all time. Plus his no landing nets was better for the fish also. If you want to improve fishing, then ban all tournaments until they go back to the original BASS rules.
So you don't think potentially saving even one life is worth it? Wow
What a load of nonsense
They are not going to save any lives by requiring a course that can be taken online while you are making a sandwich and not actually taking the course. Come on people. These courses require no input.
Have you ever taken a boating safety course yourself? If you have, have you passed it? Have you ever seen or been in a boating accident, lost friends or family members in a boating accident? I can tell you right now, while it isn’t a “fix-all”, a boating safety course definitely “doesn’t mean crap”. With all due respect, Randy’s video here isn’t about improving fishing, it’s about improving people’s knowledge and safety while being on the water.
And yes Randy, I have seen a boat crash that happened because JR was driving Daddy’s 20 foot Bullet with 280 merc that he couldn’t handle.
Everybody that is in bassmaster knows how to drive. Atleast for the most part. The problem is u get excited and full of adrenaline when it's tournament time and it affects ur decision making. A boater safety course probably won't change anything. It can't hurt tho. Bass boats are fast and very dangerous
Swindle got a dq in the classic for unsafe boating back in the day
That's not a dig deal at all. Anyone can act good for a day to pass. What a waste. I bet bassmaster will hold classes to profit off of it. What a joke
It's a good start but is very subjective a rule and can and most likely be weponised at some point
Maby a three judge panel is a good idea with penalties weight deducted, money paid out or points deducted from offenders
Sohould have happeed long ago, even at the start back in Ray's days. No telling how many injuries could have been prevented, let alone rules violations.
I passed one in 1976 when I was 14 years old.
They can start at the lower levels by eliminating the phrase “safe light” in relation to start time. There are tons of folks on the water who equate that term with having to use or not use their navigation/running lights. No such thing exists- it’s either before sunrise or after sunrise or at sunset. Exactly published times. I quit fishing fruit jar tournaments because of folks launching without their lights on making them difficult to see before sunrise. A boating safety course does expose people to the rules of the road, buoy markings and meanings, light laws, stand on vessel designation etc.
I've boated a long time, been lucky to never see an accident but heard of a few. When there's a collision? or even alone, a crash most likely kills someone, or gets injured in life changing ways.
live scope hasn’t ruined bass fishing , pro fishing put on the TV has
Problem is there are very few lakes that have a speed limit.
In Minnesota, there’s 10,000 lakes with speed limits.
@@CAN43725 I stand corrected. Only specific local regulations.
I believe that everybody pass a Certificate Coast Guard Safety Boating Course.
It sure can’t hurt, some people are crazy🤪 I stay off the crowded water but that’s no guarantee 👍
Darn, I thought maybe instead of Nanny Stating, Bass decided not to kill all the big fish, by going to a catch and release format.
My dad made me take a boater safety course before he would turn me loose with the bass boat. Illinois requires a hunter safety course for those born after 1981. Makes sense to require a boater safety course as well. As a side benefit, most insurance companies offer a discount for those who have passed a boater safety course.
Couple years ago. I was out for an evening troll in my friends pontoon with my 3 year old son. A group of boats bore down on us at the end of a no wake zone. All boats were creating wake. So some guy throttles up his bass boat. 6 inches away from the end of a rod in the holder with line out. If I didn't have to hold my boy from going overboard. I could have jumped on the guys back. This is a daily occurrence on my home waters. Two kids on jet skis died the other day. People suck
What! We did that in Jersey year's ago to many drunks
It's not just bass boats Randy.
It's boats, kayaks, canoes or any watercraft in the freshwater, saltwater and so forth.
Unfortunately, there needs to be accountability for one's actions.
This is a paid course and a little money don't make folks any safer overall, it's personal accountability for one's actions.
That’s because CA state law will now require people that own boats to pass this class. My opinion it’s another for them to generate revenue ridiculous. This will not stop people from being stupid. Also if someone does break a boating law it is grounds for DQ. G man just had a video up about this same issue.
The primary issue with DQs is a lot of what happens is subjective. Running on pad in a no wake isn't subjective, but one persons reckless driving is another persons higher ability.
There is a speed limit on Michigan waters. 55mph Some lakes it is less.
Geralde Swindle was disqualified from the classic in 2007 for unsafe boating
Yes, !! most bass fans don’t remember.
Better be careful when your boat sinks….ya might get ELECTROCUTED! 😂😂😂
It’s not that they’re not aware. It’s these people simply don’t care about the people around them
Sounds like you should be a tournament director…
Almost as devastating as disqualification would be like a hockey penalty box, a 1 hour penalty for first offense in a tournament and disqualification for the second offense. Everyone would throw a fit, but no one really needs a 22 ft boat and 250 horsepower. Limit the boats to 20 ft. and 175. Yes, I have done young and stupid stuff when the baddest boat was 17.5 ft and 150 hp. It would still run nearly 70 mph and that is fast enough to get you in a heap of trouble very quickly.
Great idea. Penalty of some sort. Time or pounds
Bassmaster should implement a max speed of 40mph during Practice and tournament operations. I’ll competing Tournaments should sign in.
I mean, it makes sense
Boat safety is a gimme,da. Ffs is not, no matter what you say about it, it still doesn't make fish bite!!!!!
I did mine several years ago. Alot of states require it, alot of times for kids under 16. You can do it online and it costs nothing here in Florida. Alot of these clowns feel they have to run wide open all the time. I don't know if they think they are trying to impress people or what. I have seen local tournaments with boats that have 400 hp engines. The boat wreck at the Harris Chain a few months ago is a prime example. Luckily nobody was killed in that incident. Those guys were disqualified and suspended for a year which they deserved.
How many National tournaments have you won?
Non sequitur much?
About damn time...
Limit horsepower! Manufacturers are pushing to the max. A boat slides 90 feet per second running 60 miles per hour. If it goes dead.
Unfortunately, I think their motivation is for reduced in$urance liability. Good news nonetheless. TY Randy
You’re right, Randy the fools will pass a boat safety course and still drive like idiots
They do it in cars every day
This should have been in place years ago. I'm not gonna toot their horn now for something that should have been done long time ago.
Requiring the passing of a boater's safety course is just eyewash ...actually enforcing tournament rules when guys violate safe boat practices and fine them or DQ them is the only way to ensure compliance
My state makes you get a license for a boat and a pwc ..
About time.!!
Seen one flip, was like slow motion once it got air under it . Guy ended up with broken back. That is with a state {CT} with a safety course . Sometimes we cant regulate ignorance and stupidity. Some education better than none.
Didn't Gerald Swindle get a day DQed in a classic for unsafe boating?
Actually, who cares about boat safety, money rules, lawyers like to sue. So bottom line, its about insurance and CYI. Forward facing the facts.
Randy, love your stuff! You gotta consider getting a microphone hard to hear you on t.v. Best regards!
The boater safety requirement will not change a thing on how some of here idiots operate there boat. Only reason Bass made them take it is because NYS IS now enforcing there Safe Boating requirement.
Hay Randy are you going to fish the guntersville tournament .no ffs
Gerald Swindle was DQd for passing too close
Just because they know the safety rules and how to operate a boat safely, doesn’t mean they’re going to actually operate one safely. It’s like driving a car and the driver’s safety class. You still have people driving like nuts. Enforce the rules and punish the offenders with penalties that are significant and not a slap on the wrist. It’s why we have crime out of control-because it’s not punished and often times the laws are not even enforced in certain jurisdictions with crooked DA.s.
I have mine, do you Randy
Did you have to take a Safety Course back in the days, when you were fishing in tournaments? Accidents will continue to happen on the water and/or operating your vehicle. A Safety Course doesn't prevent an accident, the boater is the one that prevents an accident. When an accident happens during a tournament, the tournament Director does take action on the boater, who was determined to be at fault. Tournament fisherman are required to report any other tournament fisherman that has been operating unsafely or violating any tournament rule.
Does nothing for how they will act it only satisfies what their general liability company wants
Gerald swindle
This is stupid. Boater safety classes are the biggest crock of Shite. It’s like the gun debate. It’s not the boat or gun that’s at fault. It’s the person shooting it or driving it.
Hence the safety course for the DRIVER. Not perfect but step in right direction.
Everyone on this channel needs to go watch EE's video he just dropped ...
Amen Randy needs to be done
Means nothing if they don't already have any sense. Looks like a redirect from ffs.
It won't change a thing. People are still going to be rude and disrespectful.
really??? dumb idea unless it is a bass boat specific training and hands on the water for handling and speed. You must have too much time on your hands to suggest that everyone has additional time to waste. Boating safety courses are online anyways and unless you are navigating buoys down a long or congested boating channel they are interesting and educational but not very useful on a lake. Disqual for an opinion of someone not on the water or from a camera?? Will not work. Your follow on video will be the unfair rulings for disquals from judges for boat mishandling. By the way-I have had 2 courses in boating safety. They did not prepare me for running a bass boat at speed. I do know that I need a working horn and current/serviceable fire extinguisher! Yippeee. Life jackets still optional wear on boats in the safety courses. At least we can enforce mandatory wear contrary to the mandatory safety course!! By the way-Keep up the great content Randy- really do like your channel.
If they hit a log or stump under the water at 80 that motor might come in the boat and ruin lives
Didn't swindle get dq
I believe he got disqualified for the day, but not for the entire tournament
Big deal. Boater safety course is just a quick 2 hour online test. Most people don't remember half the stuff on there.
I don’t believe it has anything to do with safety of the angler. The org is more concerned about premium costs of insurance with what has been happening more lately. The course is nothing to scream over.
