They are going to play a free secret gig in my hometown next month.
Because of legal issues it is them not allowed to advertise that gig.
It is secretly annonced as a rehearsal.

Amazing work, Pete. I just discovered this band and decided to buy some albums and am treated to your ranking and impressions of the band.

I never really checked this band out until a couple of years ago even though I've been listening to Michael Hoenig albums since '97. When the Magpie Salute did their first tour, Laila pt. II was in the setlist... Either Rich Robinson or Marc Ford must have been a fan.

I only got into these over the last couple of years. I had heard of them going back to the 70s, but never came across any albums. I love the first one "Malesch". The second is like a cross between Grateful Dead and Krautrock. Have yet to hear the third.

OK, Pete. Listened to Laila first and then to Malesch in its entirety. Great listening and very different from anything else I was listening to back in 1972. Tried listening during my daily reading time but found I could not concentrate on it and the book at the same time. The music deserved undivided attention for first listening. Definitely will be listening to this group. For any SoT followers reading this and that have Spotify - all the albums Pete mentions, including the three CD live set - is on there for listening (at least here in the States). Thanks again, Pete. A great recommendation of some new "old' music for those of us not familiar with this band.

    Fantastic spacey Krautrock.
Their two original 70's albums are surely favorites and should be part of any music collection of anyone. Amazing floating guitars and atmosphere.
It's absolutely like Camel, Pink Floyd and Hawkwind went into bed and in the next morning AF came out the door.
My favorite is their 2nd (First Communication, Layla, Morning Sunrise...) but just by little.
I think whoever likes the album Malesch should dig deep into few more Kraut bands, as there is a lot of top quality music on offer on the Krautrock side of the map. Embryo albums are first to come to mind. Gila also. I would imagine Popol Vuh should be high on the list for anyone who likes spacey British prog. Also the band Out Of Focus, amazing albums.

I first became aware of Agitation Free in 1995 when I bought Michael Hoenig's Departure from the Northern Wasteland (1978). I realized he was briefly in Tangerine Dream in 1975 filling in for Peter Baumann for a few concerts (no studio recordings exist with Hoenig). I quickly found out he was in Agitation Free. While Departure from the Northern Wasteland was very much sequencer-dominated electronic music not unlike mid to late '70s TD, in Agitation Free he plays largely synth sound effects. It took many years later for me to acquire their albums as they are quite hard to find.

Interesting, never heard of them, will have to investigate and come back later to let you know.
Just under an hour later - theres a fair amount of their stuff on You Tube which is helpful to get a taster and from what I've heard - bits of 2nd and Malach and some of their live stuff, they sound promising, though not sure if I'd go so far as to add them to my collection as I possibly wouldnt listen to them that much, however I heard stuff that reminded me of Jane (love their live at home album - but then I've had that in my collection since I bought it on tape while working in Switzerland back in 1981 and listen to it fairly regularly) and Early Floyd and Tangerine Dream (my all time favourite of theirs being Stratosfear)- and loved a description in the comments under Laila that they sound like a Krautrock Allman Brothers. Thanks for the introduction.
