Every year, Mojang gives us a brand new decision to make in the form of a Minecraft Mob Vote. Since 2017, the community has had to fight and argue with each other, all in the name of choosing which new monster is going to get added into the game. From the Phantom, Panda, Glow Squid, Allay, and Sniffer, we’ve seen a wide variety of mobs get added… however, we’ve also lost quite a few great ones. This year’s candidates, the Crab, Armadillo, and Penguin have each started the classic internet discourse of which one deserves to win, but have also sparked a community revolution asking… should the Mob Vote even exist? In this video, we’re going to talk about that, alongside telling you about the newest mobs, and giving our thoughts on all of this. So, without any further ado… let’s get right into it.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
We stan! 🎉 Now just to wait for the Savannah to get updated 💀
Was hoping for the crab since it felt the safest to vote for.
LETS GOOOO
What the community really hates is not the mob vote itself but the idea that the other choices we will never see again, that's why you don't see anyone complaining about the biome vote, because all biomes will be updated eventually.
So they hate the mob vote. Cause what’s the point of voting if they’re all gonna get added
@@thenelsonbruhs722 the order. I wouldn't mind the mob vote if instead of "loosers never get added" it was "winner gets added next update, loosers will wait like 2 years"
@@thenelsonbruhs722it’s like you completely ignored the part when they brought up the biome voting lmao
@@santiagomendoza8278 yeah that’s a fair point I didn’t think of that
"Eventually" is what we've been complaining about. It's been years, and the desert is still just sand.
This year I'm upset because none of these features should not be tied to a mob.
There's no reason we should have to put a crab claw to get extra reach.
There is no reason we can't use existing materials to craft dog armor or even put horse armor on dogs.
There's no reason to need a mob to make your boat fast. There should just be a way to upgrade it. Maybe with wax ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The issue isn't the mob vote, it's the fact the losers are just never seen or mentioned again. They should use the mob vote to see what the community would like to see prioritized and then add them. While the losers will just get added later. In the current system, like over half the community will feel disappointed with the results.
The issue is the mob vote
@@Gabriel-nw6fc The real issue is creatures like you who can't stop whining over something this minor, and act like a mob vote for a simple sandbox game is the end of humanity as a whole. I bet you don't even have a job at all lmao.
but it is the mob vote
It looks like the penguin will be eventually added despite losing the mob vote. Let's hope it's the same for the crabs
this is factually untrue. the frog was not voted yet it was added. they put the mob back in the idea hat to implement later when theres a good opportunity for it
My issue with the mob votes is that they should be treated like the biome votes.
Every biome will get and update and some new mob, but the vote is for players to decide which one gets the update first. Mob votes should be handled the same way.
Agreed
The mobs were confirmed a while go to be added at a later date, but haven’t yet
Then so many trash, useless mobs will be added. Glare, Copper and Tuff Golem, Rascal, Glow Squid etc. The only mobs that were worth it was in the 1st mob vote and the Iceologer and the bee cow. This is why I didn't bother voting for this mob vote, instead Mojang are straying away from these unique and fantasy creatures and are turning to real life to get a quick and easy add without any thought being put in
@@bryanp5843 how is the bee cow (bombs ur worlds with yellow flowers) better than copper golem (can be used by redstone engineers to make so many contraptions)
@@marisstaff7019 the mobs featured as biome vote additions alongside updated biomes, yes. Mob votes pick one choice, and toss the other two completely.
Like, I think the biggest issue at the end off the day is that we're losing out on two of three of these massively requested features no matter how the mob vote pans out: Extended block placing range, wolf armour, and boat speed movement increases
Dog armor is the only massively requested feature 😉
its not @@proggz39
Wrong. Survival Builders begged for a feature to extend block placement range since the earliest days. Just coz your exploration focus information bubble don't care about any of the other two, doesn't mean that it's not needed. not just for This Mob Vote BUT ALL mob vote have Always been single mob and nothing else
mob vote solution: simply don't banish the losers forever from future mob votes. just chuck em in a hat (plus a new one every now and then), draw 3 times from it, and bam theres your next mob vote
This should have been the solution. I mean at least since the glow squid incident. Stash the loser mobs for a extremely later event and maybe even call it the "The loser but not forgotten" update
This! Is perfect!
I not understanding
They literally do the first part of the comment.
Would be cool to see the second.
yep according to a employee they just delete all data for the ones that lose and never talk about them again a waste of resources and effort if you ask me@@jamesbond3w
The biome vote was good and they should do it more like that. "Here's 3 things we have in our plans that are not related to this update's theme; pick your favorite and we'll add it now instead of later"
That is exactly how the mob vote works as well though, except the losing mobs will be much later because they take more to make.
@@9nikolai "mobs take more time"
Pls listen to yourself
@@9nikolai The mob vote losers are different; they could still never be added, it's just better than not being considered at all. The biome vote losers were all guaranteed to come eventually.
And then we chose the Taiga biome and got... uh.... oh yeah, berries and foxes and thats it 💀 💀 💀
@@IzzyTheOwl When the fuck did I say time
I think after Dream and the Glow Squid incident, the mob vote became a joke. I know it was still on Twitter and not on its own client back then, but it showed us how easily the voice of the community can be taken away when someone with a big enough following gets involved.
Right if one huge person decides to vote on a mob the army of supporters are going to follow like mindless sheep
Iceologer would be amazing in game now, because it would have new mountainous structures they would spawn in.... The mountains while amazing in sizes and in world generation, it's just lack luster....
@@JHak909 I do wonder if the dumb author of this channel is even capable of thinking
The mob vote has always been a joke. It was understandable in the first vote, Mojang wasn't having the best of times and wanted to revive the game, since it was losing popularity. But after that first vote, minecraft has never reached that point again. And, despite what the devs say, they do have enough time to add all 3 mobs.
@@JHak909you say that but then it would just become like the blaze boss situation that ant mentioned in the video
Personally, I think voting on an update _theme_ would be far more impactful and productive. A single mob is a single mob, and, no matter how great, will always feel out of place if it doesn't have the structure of other significant game developments to strengthen it.
Genius
The vote would need to happen before the livestream. And they would need to have already have working and functional things to show in the livestream for all possible themes of the vote.
Making this hypothetical scenario totally useless since the mob vote exists to make people tune in to the livestream.
Fletching table
Oh god this would be even more of a trainwreck in my opinion. "Hey look at these 3 cool new updates with amazing features but only the one with the most votes will get added and the other 2 won't be thought about ever again"
@@G384Gaming Not necessarily, were they to go at it from the first-priority/"we'll add the other stuff later" like they apparently used to profess. Even so, I completely get where you're coming from.
My issue with the mob vote is, aside from the community splintering, they really just feel like ineffectuals crumbs posing as community involvement(doubly so if you include the lack of transparency previous votes had), while also continuing to add to the splintered, unfocused mess that is modern Minecraft. The archeology, the copper, the glow squids, ect. --All of them feel disconnected from the rest of the game because they lack a "scaffold" around them, so to speak.
They don't have to be big updates, either. Something like a biome vote could be fun, if properly done; or giving some love to a neglected element(villager trading, for a recent example). Binning the losing concepts, while undeniably good in stirring up discussion(read: infighting), is not a necessary component to this. There's nothing stopping Mojang from putting them on the shelf to save for a rainy day.
Again though, I get where you're coming from. Hope this comment doesn't come off as yelly or anything-- I just have alot of thoughts on the matter, lol. It's definitely a contentious topic, and for good reason. It just feels like if they don't change something soon, this will end up harming the game more than anything.
I think a good balance for vote or no vote would be to have all the mobs being added BUT slowly throughout the year. What we vote on is which one gets added first
Throughout _the_ year? That's not slow at all then, lol
then its not a vote....
Penguins need HUGS
@@TSMSnation It still would be? It'd be voting for the first one to be added rather than the only one to be added.
Especially with how simple these mobs are they can just add them all. I'd rather vote for an update theme
I know the mob votes are all for marketing and discussion, but man do they cause some toxicity. I hope this year they listen and add ALL three.
And all of the lost ones too.
honestly i think mojang should stop making so many updates in such fast succession.
We cant digest the new content even close to halfway let alone fully before a new update makes it irrelevant.
@@alexcartee6302Yes, that too.
all three being added would be the best outcome.
@@korridorr ??? they barely add anything with the time they do have. They need to stop being lazy and add more than 1 block and 1 mob a year and call it an update
I'm more excited for the Update announcements than the Mob Vote to be honest. The Mob Vote is usually irrelevant to the update and forced in because that design won. Without the mob vote, they could add more mobs and content to fit the theme better.
they shouldnt add too much content, People are begging for more, when what we really need is less.
the less updates means more comfort in what we have already, meaning we can appreciate The New Features when they are released.

Agreed! Good bye, toxic explosions. Good bye, controversy. Let's just see what's in our scraps each year, hibernate, and spend a couple months enjoying it before speculating what's coming next year.
Sadly, they're probably not going to stop the mob vote
The votes were the illusion of choice.
What is mob vote?
@@lpc9929do you even play minecraft?
Calling it now:
- The crab claw will increase reach by like 1 block
- The wolf armor will have like 3 armor points and won't take enchantments
- The penguin speed will only work in water, not on ice, and only when the penguin itself is actively swimming, so you can't have it in the boat with you
Literally every time I've seen people speculate on potential cool uses for the previous mob vote mechanics, they've been wrong every time, and the mob has been implemented in the worst, monkey's-paw-est way possible (except for the allay, that one turned out alright). The sniffer was said to give exotic plants, and sure enough, it gives two ugly, purely decorative flowers. The glow squid "glows" but doesn't provide light, and glow ink is only used for two things that are purely decorative and almost no one uses. Phantoms, when they show up, are relentless, omnipresent, difficult to hit, and all around obnoxious, and made SMP servers such a nightmare to play on that they had to implement an entire gamerule just to disable the spawns of one mob
Do not get your hopes up. You will almost certainly be disappointed regardless of which mob wins. But remember, this is a small, struggling indie studio, so you can't expect them to add more than 3 new blocks and one disappointing mob per year. Anything more would just be WAY too much effort
hell, I wouldn't be surprised if the claw was only half a block
I think the crab claw will actually be a vanilla parity change disguised as a 'new feature'. Java will get noticeable extended reach whereas Bedrock will either get nothing or a minimal 0.5 block increase to create parity with Java's increase. Most Bedrock users won't even realise that only Java actually 'won'.
This just proves that people getting toxic over the mob vote is just silly and stupid. The mobs add underwhelming features on purpose, because the mob vote is supposed to be fun, and to an extent care free. Of course they wont let people vote for features that will change the whole game, so they only let us vote for minimal stuff like these, which makes perfect sense. Shouldn't we be excited about the next update, and not 3 stupid mobs? So dear people who want to "start a revolution" and to "end the mob vote", stop taking this vote so seriously. Its supposed to be fun, you are making it not fun.
@@Mot0193 ah yes, because it's so much fun to speculate and fight over 3 potential additions, only for pretty much everyone to be disappointed when the winner turns out to be a complete nothingburger. It's content-based blue balling, and all it really does is waste the developers' time that could have been spent making an update with 3 new blocks instead of just 2
Remember : the community voted AGAINST the enchant-removing mob, and we got the enchant-removing block the update after that
Why would we want an unefficient entity to do industry-level tasks?
As someone once said: The mob vote feels less like Mojang adding one mob and feels more like they're removing two.
Part of me misses the surprise factor of new mobs being added in snapshots, you don’t get that so much anymore because you get tossed this “grab bag” of mobs and you don’t know whether any particular mob is going to stick.
you are a legend
I agree, they show too much of the updates and all that surprise / wonder just isn't there because of it.
I do too, it always used to be so much fun diving into a new snapshot with just a few words of what was added to go off of.
Even in other games I love experiencing new features like that myself.
The issue with minecraft is that I can't do that since everything that is being added is constantly shoved in my face months before they're even in the game.
That's the same with most games now, there's so many leakers and data miners and dev updates that there's no surprises/ secrets
If your a christian.. you need to repent of your sins PLZ
Presenting 3 discrete options and telling people to choose between them is not the same as "giving the community a voice". It is an illusion of a voice, nothing more.
It's a vote. There is no voice at all, there's just a few numbers.
By your logic, all living in democracies don't have a voice...
@@SuperLlama88888and yet I believe most if not all democracies are rigged against the people.
Especially in a lot of 2 party systems, both parties can get away with doing things people hate, as long as they are "better" than the other side, but this only serves to push people further and further from the center as they decide which side they definitively take.

Correction with the Crab: The MC China article that said they can be breeded with kelp was removed, along with the line of text saying that the crab claw could break blocks further as well
I think they just tried to hide the truth afterwards.
Or I'm wrong .. who knows.
I think Mojang often makes a obvious choice between the three though and this time they favor the crab. Also the devs.
Here's the thing. A true "voice" of the community would be a suggestion box, or some other way for the community to directly have input into the game's direction. Instead what we get every year is a vote for three pre-determined mobs, entirely made by Mojang, and we only get their word for what each mob is about; the community gets zero input as to what the mob will actually be about. And two of the mobs get entirely discarded as a result of the mob. That is *_NOT_* a "community voice" at all, it's like if I gave you three mystery boxes of different colors and asked you to pick between one of them; you don't know what's in the boxes and you have zero input about what _is_ in the boxes (which is ultimately what a "community voice" is supposed to be about, metaphorically in this scenario), you just get to pick one of the boxes and the only thing to go off is the colors of the boxes.
yeah... let just say mojang put out suggestion box ... what kind of "suggestion" troll gonna give them lmao!
add segs in Minecraft XDDDD?
the problem they have is the forever banish not the vote itself lmao! the suggestion box may seen cool but you maybe too naive or innocent to not think of dumb suggestion they gonna get and finding 1 of good suggestion out of millions dumb/troll/spicy suggestion...
yeah even myself not even want to see that lol
also don't start any kind of activities like this when 4chan still existence you gonna regret it
I think removing the mob vote will not remove the voice given to players, in fact the opposite.
If the stop mob vote campain is succesful (happens and is not bad money wise), mojang could consider taking the community's voice and feedbacks more seriously as was kind of done with 1.20 on twitter or the cave update being asked for since the dawn of times
nope. they would realize that the community is very toxic and very much in favor of shitting on the developers, so they stop taking feedback.
I would believe in the idea of a priority system. The 1st place gets added first, the 2nd in the following update, and the 3rd last. This means we get the best of both worlds. What the community wants immediately, then the rest to come later.
This. This would be perfect. We don't care about the wait time- we just want all 3!
Yes I 100% agree, since in the end we will still get all 3 mobs and the vote will still have a meaningfull impact because one will come before the others!. This would in my opinion help alot with drama and conflict as in the end the ones that lost will still be added in but just at a later update date!
Thats what I think we should do as well! That'd be great! And maybe after those 3 are added, they could add the other lost mob's from past mob votes! THAT WOULD SO AWESOME! Hehe! 😁
This would be a great way to adapt it. I think it would make for a fun vote without so much fighting. I mean sure some terminally online people will be mad about not having what they want instantly, but in general there would be way less toxicity going on
Plus of course we actually get the all content teased instead of only one!
YES.
I'd love to see the glare & tuff golem make their ways into Minecraft, probably in 1.23 for the glare & 1.28 for the tuff golem.

but why not add all 3? 3 is not a lot lol
A shame not many are added and they do use them to make the voted mobs more useful.
@@egbert5871I personally do not want three fairly useless environmental mobs added every update. One is plenty. None even. They should just make mobs when they have an idea that warrants it instead of just shoving in random mobs.

The Mob Vote should be a vote towards which one gets priority towards the next update, then the others get added later down the line, that way the idea with the most votes deserves attention since majority wants it, then the others get added later since they were picked less but keeps the great idea in mind

I'm down with this!
I agree!
You know what? I'm definitely onboard with all 3 being added. Maybe instead we could vote for what updates we want to occur first? Or go back to biome votes where the losers just come back at a later time like the frogs? The first one wouldn't help with toxicity but it's an interesting idea! I also really enjoy the biome votes, and when it's a vote for what will merely come out first then there's not as much of a reason to fight.
Idk just some food for thought
Agree biome votes felt more impactful and you knew the losers would come back
I would love if Minecraft one year had a "rainy day" update where they add the lost mobs in. Probably wouldn't happen, but it would be cool and they could use it as a chance to give some of their team a lighter workload for an update seeing as they already have some of the mobs implementation process done
@@themc3140 Hell yeah, though I think they've indicated those biomes will be updated eventually unlike some of the mobs where they've said they won't, or haven't indicated if they will or not.
I am hoping that in potential future mob votes, Mojang will actually give us more detailed information on the mobs. It's always been lacking, although ever since the phantom, they have been a little more clear, it still isn't sufficient.
For example, how does the crab claw work? Do we need to put it in our off-hand before we can use it? And how far away *exactly* does it make us place blocks? And like you said about wolf armor, we don't know if we can dye it or give it enchantments or even just how much armor it will give to our wolves.
Those details are crucial information for the vote and yet Mojang doesn't provide those in any way.
I believe they do it so when community expectations aren't met nobody can say they reneged on promises. I hate to be cynical, but after the community backlash and Mojang's response to it after canning fireflies and birch forests, they're treading a lot more carefully.

No more mobvotes
Will the penguins effect only work when it’s swimming? Or will it work in boats too
@@darkithnamgedrf9495 The mob vote has already concluded, with Armadillo as the winner. Penguin will not be added. Sorry :c
There's two main issues with the mob votes that I have came up with:
1. Rule of the minority, where people who did not vote for the winning mob do not get representation, hurting retention and polarizing the community.
2. The lack of any meaningful change to progression by mobs added by these mob votes, where only a limited set of features are enabled by their addition.
These two reasons at minimum are why I agree that these mob votes should be omitted, better represented, or have their themes upscaled and/or resulting in significant changes to progression. In personal experience, I have never needed to interact with an allay or panda, while the more significant change from pandas came as bamboo. I don't play enough to interact with the sniffer, and phantoms contribute absolutely nothing besides a punishment to not enjoying consecutive nights. These anecdotes to me prove that these mob votes contribute very little to the game besides more AI and increasing performance requirements.
Ultimately, I would enjoy if the mob votes were removed overall and instead focused on being teasers for more content, minimizing wasted time first receiving an answer, and providing more accountability to mojang to release meaningful progression to incentivize players to either restart anew, or push more goals that involve exploration, combat, or challenge.
I just realized, the penguin could be a good choice overall aside from being the safe option. People are always talking about how most forms of transportation become obsolete quickly if you speedrun getting an elytra, but having the boats be faster and free could have a genuine contender for elytras and horses, assuming you live near a river or an ocean.
But, like everyone else has been saying, the main issue is that once a mob gets selected, NONE of the others gets added in a future update / patch update (One of those 1.21.X updates)
Also we don’t know the numbers, so the penguin increasing the speed by like 10 or 20% would just be useless, by we don’t know exactly how it would affect boats, just like the two other mobs we don’t have any information, but I really don’t think the penguin would be a safe option
@@R11T16_ I mean, even so, it's still a 20% boost.
As in, you reach your destination in 4/5ths of the time, which adds up quick (Like how some people might make speed potions despite it only being a relatively small boost)
We don't know how good dog armor would be, could just be leather armor quality (And you can't enchant horse armor, why would you be able to enchant dog armor)
The crab claw, while sounding AMAZING if you could use it for building / mining as a small quality of life item (Like the spyglass) could literally just be an offhand item that specializes in block placement and nothing else. Still good, but yikes for people who don't build much or prefer to use scaffolding.
I'm not sure how they planned it, but the only (kind of) realistic way is the penguin hanging behund your boat paddling his feet like a motor. That would have been fun to watch
At this point, there should be an update that focused on the loosing votes from Biomes, Mobs even Minibosses. The list is big enough to turn it into an entire update, since it seems to be far bigger than The Wild Update and Trails and Tales Update now
My opinion on each mob
! Opinions Ahead !
The crab is cool and all, but considering I still have yet to find a mangrove swamp in survival, I doubt I'll ever use the crab claw. Also while I do tons of building, a farther reach won't really be something I need.
The armadillo is cool on its own. It's feature is also cool, but who's actually going to take their dogs anywhere where they need armour. Also like 99% of the time dogs die from walking into lava. So dog armour is kinda pointless, but would look cool.
The penguin is my choice but not because of its feature, in fact, it's probably why nobody wants it. But I chose penguin because I just would like to see another arctic related mob, and like cmon its a penguin, they cute.
Also with the meme of everyone wanting to remake the crab rave, why not remake club penguin.
I think a big problem with this year's mob votes is that the functionality for all mobs has very little to do with the mobs themselves. The crab and the armadillo, we only care about the functionality of the drop, not really the mob itself. As for the penguin, I imagine they'll be used similarly to dolphin highways.
I love the crabs BUT mangrove swamps are sooooo rare. What’s even the point then?
I think with a few big changes to how the mob vote works, it would be a great idea. It's just been poorly thought.
Let's be real it would be better if they did something like the biome votes. And they did specifically say in the first mob vote "once they're gone they're gone forever" and now they say "They're actually backlogged for later dates" if they can spend a year to make a part 1 update to add a wood type, a few items, and bug fixes they can definitely spend time making a full update. And no I'm not saying Mojangs lazy per say I'm just saying they can litterally spend that time to delay an update to add more stuff instead of saying "The public will hate us if we don't get this update out asap"
I don't think we're giving up "our voice" with the mob vote. There's a difference between making an informed decision and choosing between 3 cats in bags.
4:52 good to see the pig agrees with you
I find it incredibly hypocritical that mojang will go to such lengths to enforce a friendly environment in every aspect of minecraft, to the point of enforcing bans on people for bad language in their own world
But as soon as they get money and publicity from it, perpetuating a system that spreads so much hate and pain (and sometimes bribery) is considered absolutely fine for _children_

The Mob Vote has a very simple solution, build up hype for a new update by releasing the chosen mob right away - or earlier, while the two others come out later, instead of being thrown into an abyss of never coming to the game - its less about the mobs, its more about the features they bring, so killing them off feels like killing the features we couldve gotten.

Since the current mob vote is ongoing either way, I expect that for the next mob vote, we'll get a tournament format to give a chance for abandoned past mobs to be added into the game. It's like losing bracket sort of thing
The only issue with the penguin is that... dolphins do their job just as well if not better.
Yeah but you need a lead to make them follow you (I assume). Since penguins are social mobs (if they were added) they would probably follow you regardless.
exactly, people are rushing mojang and so the quality of these updates are increasing but the mobs and meaning of these updates are decreasing in value to the community.
I don't know of anyone who wants faster boat speed
Dolphins don't affect boats.
@@Her_Imperious_Condescension yet you can swim faster than a boat with a dolphin trailing you...?
The problem with the mob vote is that it isn’t “vote for which mob you want”, but rather “vote for which mob you’d rather have”. This becomes extremely frustrating for people who like multiple ideas, or really anyone who doesn’t dislike the other two mobs presented. It seems like the community has finally realized that we’re essentially voting features out of the game rather than into it.
All I want is confirmation from the devs that the mob vote losers aren’t left out forever.
We’ve had confirmation that biome vote candidates are out back on the shelf until they feel the desire to add it, but we’ve never been told that for the mobs
Just a simple confirmation would do :/
I'm pretty sure that it's confirmed that the losers will never be added
KingBDogz confirmed it lol
they've said since the allay vote that the other mons are back in planning, revising mechanics to add them in
I liked the Rascal. I was going to name him Douglas. I voted for Douglas. Knowing that Douglas will likely never come to the game still makes me a little sad a year later. Now the same thing is likely going to happen with armadillos (most community polls have crabs in the lead). This sucks, and I’m ready for the mob vote to just end already. But I’m pretty sure Mojang stopped actually listening to us a while ago, so I have little hope that they’ll care about this.
I'm seeing the armadillo winning most of the polls I've seen (crab is close tho). I'm still upset that the copper golem lost and mojang is ultimately a company who care about profit more than its community
Yea, it's a really melancholy statement but I don't think mojang have been properly listening to us since not long after Microsoft took over..
I didn’t really notice until the villager nerfs. A massive portion of the community doesn’t want them, or at least doesn’t want them in their current state. Just a quick trip to the feedback page would show that. But they’re just doing it anyways. :/
Edit: and the feedback page isn’t just a bunch of 12 year olds screaming about a nerf they don’t like. It’s for the most part people calmly and clearly stating the many problems with the nerf (and there are many problems).
Nah the armadillo is useless
I also like the Rascal. Poor thing never stood a chance cuz mob votes are kinda dictated by whatever choice appeals in terms of "adorableness" to the masses imo. It really would have been great to see a new sapient sorta mob instead of just Villagers.
they’re not gonna add all three this year, but hopefully next update they won’t do a mob vote. I hate how the mob vote isn’t _”which mob do you want”,_ but instead it’s _”which 2 mobs should never get added”_
man, this video was a throwback. i love the older discussion-type style that you used to do around 2017. I still think your current style is better, but its still a nice nostalgia trip to get some of that old antvenom content again.
The issue with the Phantom is why I've grown disillusioned with the mob votes. You get something that sounds promising but then if or when it's implemented you find out they either a) as you said made that mechanic to be the ONLY thing about it and so once you've experienced it a few times it either gets boring / becomes a nuisance, or b) as in the case of the glow squid it doesn't actually do what they implied it would and so it becomes a big letdown. In other words, like any advertisement they only tell you the "good" parts but don't tell you the details. My issue is that if they were truly honest and didn't mislead the community, they might not get such backlash. And the fact the losers of the vote don't get added in later so you're stuck with something that leaves a bitter taste in your mouth.
TLDR: I'm all for abolishing the mob vote because it does absolutely nothing but divide the community and add mobs that have one limited gimmick that quickly loses its shine because that's all they have to offer.
I’d still rather have them than nothing at all
@@proggz39agreed. would be nicer if they did with the mobs what they did with the biome votes and add the ones that didn't win in later updates
they NEEED to have a mob vote where we pick between all the previous mobs votes to add back into the game
YES 110% AGREED
No... they should just add them all
all of these mobs in the mob votes are completely pointless in my opinion, it just seems stupidly useless to add more mobs and complicate the already cluttered game.
@@korridorr Just don't play with them then. You're not forced to play with (most, ig the Phantom is a mob you can't really avoid unless you sleep) them. Your opinion is valid but that doesn't mean other opinions are invalid.
@@craycraywolf6726 oh, 100% i already do so.
but the problem isnt the opinions. its what the opinions are Doing.
The issue isn't the voting itself. It's the prospect of having features previously hyped up being scapped, potentially forever. It's a psychological phenomenon known as *loss aversion.* People react much more negatively to (the perception of) having something taken away from them than to (the perception of) never having it in the first place. In this case, what's taken away is your excitement about features shown during the mob vote.
I feel like where minecraft went wrong is making all mobs Nuisances rather than actual challanges. Like the phantom would actually be cool if it had some different attacks and wasnt just there to annoy you
The problem with the mob vote is that forces an idea into mojang. Whats laid in front of us are just concepts, what happens if devs realize that what the people voted for cant be implemented in a meaninful way but now they have to do it anyways bc it won. And maybe a loser couldve been amazing if it made it past concept art, but it gets canned to never see the light again.
The community is so toxic about the vote bc its just horribly flawed since its conception
I think that's actually why they give us 3 specific things. I'm sure they got a ton of ideas, but then filiter it down to the most doable ones. Each one would require a lot of work (supposedly. I'm not saying it's an easy effort that can be done in a just week but it is their game and they should know it far better than they seem to), and so they let it players decide which of these things they should focus their attention on. And as we've seen with the phantom they have been willing to adjust and edit it's implimentation after it's already in the game.
It seems to be more about getting one idea in, and at least 90% of it finished before tweaking things. Tweaking can be done once it's in there.
As you said, the best comments are the one written in less than an hour after the video releases.
only the odd ones get this comment.

I feel like that maybe instead of voting on mobs, but rather on the theme of the update. I think that should be a good fix!
No that’s a terrible idea. Updates are worked on wayy before they’re announced. Going “ok guys, the two dev teams who were working on those updates, drop everything and work on the one that was voted in” is really poor work management.
@@WhatIsMyPorpoise that's not at all what they were saying.
I mean that they get we get to vote on what theme and once the winner is announced they start work on it. I dont mean that they have to start working on an update for eachone. But rather just some ideas@@WhatIsMyPorpoise
@@wisefries4205 I am explaining why such a concept of voting for an update theme is not quite feasible. Development on an update does not start once they've announced it, but rather far before that.
Previous updates may contain systems that build up to making the feature of the next update feasible, like how the 3d biomes of the nether made way to permit the overworld biomes to be changed with that same system.
Additionally, the surprise of the theme's reveal is big publicity for minecraft. The voting is often the appetizer to the big reveal of the next update.
It feels like an illusion of choice. Cause you look at what the crab has to offer, then compare it to the other 2. I think Mojang already has their sights on the crab by giving it a potentially game breaking item, but add trash mobs to make it look like there's competition.
7:26 If, and I mean a big fat *_IF_* you can find one.

The reason people don't take their dogs to combat is because they don't want to risk losing them at all. Giving them more defense isn't going to remove the risk.
I never took my wolfs out for combat but I have several at my base and it would be nice to dress them up in armor which would add much more to the game than the other two mobs with the way I play
I do. I have one main breeding pair at base, a army raising room where bred babies go and a adult army room, where any adult dogs go.
Finally i have a active army room, where all adult dogs i currently walk around with go whenever i return to base.
Dogs are incredibly usefull imagine one hit by a skeleton and 50-60 dogs rain down on it.

mojang should stop letting the community pick. The community simply cannot choose any decent, helpful or remotely cool choice or even appreciate the updates given.
@@korridorr yea thats so true, the community has chosen awful mobs in the past two years, however, i think the community expected so many more features to actually be added with the mobs. Like the sniffer could’ve been SO COOL if it gave like 10 unique plants that all did different things. instead, it only gives two plants that are completely decorative. the glow squid too, it could’ve actually lit up the water and be some sort of lichen but in the ocean. They could’ve also made more features with using the ink like imagine you could dye sheep with the ink and they can light up. or combining it with a block so it counts as a light source so you wouldn’t have to use torches every four blocks or so to just prevent mobs from spawning. mojang overall made the mob descriptions so broad forcing the community to risk which mob to add with each vote. so either mojang should bring back biome votes and add all three biomes eventually because thats been the only good vote thats happened or they should stop the mob vote
@@itsconnrragreed but the only thing i disagree with is the updates.
adding more content makes people needy as they dont appreciate whats in the game already, the community needs Time to digest all of the content we already have.
the only reason why people are making mojang into a mockery is because people simply cannot accept that we have SO much already,
MC fans are getting greedier and greedier with every mob, feature and update and it is causing mojang to struggle for ideas.
(this explains the lack of quality and care taken into the recent updates, mobs and features.)
@@korridorrThat’s far from true. Everyone plays at their own pace, nobodies forcing you to experience all the content in vanilla Minecraft on a time limit. It’s a game you can play for decades if you choose. As someone whose played off and on since the full release, I appreciate every new update and get excited to learn about all the new mechanics and features since I was gone
@@korridorr i believe that the community doesn’t appreciate these mob votes is because excluding this years, all of them are so random and have no theme. like antvenom said, the updates that the community appreciated so much were the ones with themes. the 1.9, 1.13, 1.14, 1.16, and 1.18/1.19 updates all fundamentally changed minecraft in a different way. exactly like how these mobs can possibly change minecraft which is why so many people are mad for losing two mobs from this mob vote. for example, the mob vote where the allay won. when have you seen an allay in survival mode? i’ve never seen one. have you tried to spawn a sniffer to get two decorative plants yet? i haven’t simply because they are the most niche mobs in minecraft that didn’t fit into an update theme or that fit into minecraft in general. of course its a sandbox game but we don’t have any other dinosaurs in minecraft and we didn’t get a big themed update that can help the sniffer in any way fitting into minecraft
They could pull an osrs and show the concepts and allow the players to vote yes or no on them. If over a specific percentage of players say yes, they add it rather than scrapping great ideas. This way if there are multiple great ideas (or equally bad) we can see more implemented into the game and our voices are still heard without nearly as much division.
If microsoft can make a whole minecraft Spinoff game they can add more resources to mojang to add three blocky mobs to the original Minecraft.
A voice of the community should not be heard in a form of a mob vote. It causes infighting and I am sick of it. There is so much else being said online that should be taken into consideration, that is the voice of the community that should be heard
What most people miss about the crab claw and the penguin boost is that the claw on the Chinese vote re did the text to not say break blocks and the buff for boats isn’t said to be used on ice rafting
If mod makers can add 30+ mobs into the game, why can't Mojang just add all three from each mob vote?
The mob vote is a bonus. Mojang could add 30+ mobs in an update but it would destroy vanilla Minecraft
Actual modders hate this argument btw. It’s a nasty set up for modders.
I believe that votes like these should just be a "what do you want to see sooner rather than later" sort of vote. They should still add the other mobs or whatever else we vote on into the game, it's just that the thing they add in first is the one we voted for.
I'm sad about the Moobloom still... because now there's no Minecraft Earth.
Dude. With every new "update" Mojang release, i grow more and more thankful for modders. (especially the classic ones)
Amount of ACTUALLY interesting content is HUGE.
Cries in console player
I voted Armadillo but I would've easily picked Crab if it wasn't for my concern over balance on block reach, and realistically all three options should be added. It feels like all the "losers" of a community vote get scrapped, because "No one cares about it" when really it's just the people who care about it are the actual playerbase who now live with features that are left feeling underdeveloped beyond the concept given for players to vote on.
I think the addition of extra reach would be amazing but I think it should be an enchantment for the chestplate instead. The chestplate it is only armor piece without exclusive enchants and I think this would be perfect.
This would be annoying as by the time you would need the extra reach you will probably have an elytra, and constantly switching between the too could get very monotonous.
HOWEVER, if they added an elytra and chestplate combination system...
Yeah, adding a new item feels shortsighted to me. The reason i chose penguin is because there is no item.
The mob’s presence at your side is the bonus. It’s not a mob to be farmed, it’s one to ride alongside.
I like those kinds of behaviours. Similar to the changes to decoration pots. An inventory slot with no GUI.
The mobvote as concept is flawed.
Scraping the mobs who don’t win does nothing positive for the game.
The mob vote doesn't give us "a voice", they give us 3 random and usually pretty boring mobs to choose from. It usually ends in trying to find the lesser evil to vote for.
I think the mob vote should just be all about requested things from us (and maybe sometimes a few ideas from Mojang), and that it should just be called ‘the vote’ or something like that. And we also need to be able to request our ideas and vote on what deserves a spot on the official vote and what not. And then Mojang can pick whatever they feel like from that non official vote list and put their own twist on it (and add it to the official vote). And it would also give us the opportunity to let things come back that got voted out earlier, and then it’s just a matter of time when Mojang puts it back on ‘the vote’ or not, which is exciting! Like “Will they do it this year or next year or the year after that?” And we’ll also be able to have influence on what gets into 'the vote' by protesting when it takes too long for a specific idea to get into 'the vote', like it would bring the fans together instead of separating them.
Yea, Like terraria
Here's my stance on the mob vote: The penguin is basically useless since dolphins already exist. The armadillo won't be useful because nobody actually brings their dogs outside, they just make them sit for eternity inside their houses. The crab might be useful, but the only featured they completly confirmed is placing blocks, which means you might not be able to attack from far, and this would only be useful in crystal and respawn anchor pvp.
Penguins don't have to constantly be underwater to survive
I blame Agnes for every bad decision for the past 5 years.
So all three new mobs are adding three new features that players have wanted for ages? Wolf armour, extra interaction range, and more movement mechanics? And if we vote one, the other two are gone forever?
No wonder everyone hates mob votes. This is just evil.
To be honest, the sheer simplicity of these three mobs means they could really all be implemented; This feels like just an iteration of the biome vote from a few years back, but instead of a whole biome revamp/addition, it’s a mere singular, semi-simplistic mob.
It always feel like we lost more than we gained cause it's always one out of three. And unfortunately for mojang, a lot of modders out there makes adding all three mobs look so easy making Mojang look either lazy or spiteful.
The sniffer got through because the other two options in that vote really weren't any better. In hindsight, knowing how few seeds Mojang would implement, maybe the Tuff Golem for nice decorations, but the Rascall was the peak of uselessness. At least the sniffer fit the theme of that update...
That was not hindsight at all. In fact I think with all the mob votes we've been through, it was easily seen as the most likely outcome by anyone who thought about it for even a second really. It was the main argument to vote against the sniffer, but again, this is democracy ft. a bunch of actual children so....
But useless still ._.
5:10 Idunno, remember the last blue mob that was voted into Minecraft? Or the one before it? Or the one before that?
I don't trust the Crab one bit.
And having a personal army of guards that won't die in a matter of seconds sounds incredibly useful.
My biggest problem with the mob vote is that it makes us think a mob and some tiny associated update is good enough. It’s designed to make us believe we chose it for ourselves so that we can’t blame Mojang when their updates are small and boring. If you ask me, the fact that Mojang is working on Minecraft spin-offs is probably why they don’t release actual updates like they used to. The mob vote is just here to keep us engaged enough that we pay for minecoins while Mojang works on creating new revenue streams for Microsoft.
The only reason updates are small is because Microsoft is lazy and greedy, they only want money, the devs of Minecraft are not the same devs working on Dungeons and Legends
they spent more time on the april fools update instead of updating the game
4:03 :(
I feel that too but i get mad when someone kills their own dog or when my dog dies
:(
I think the mob vote is terrible and we should get all mobs, it doesn't have to be in this update just in the next one that would be themed on the issue
What do you mean giving up our voice? Do you mean that Mojang doesn't listen to anything we say outside the mob vote? We have and always will have a voice in media. A mob vote voice is useless compared to that
The people that want the mob vote gone seem to be overlooking one very critical part of it. They show three mobs and want us to pick what gets added. If we did away with the vote, who says they’d still show 3 mobs, let alone add all 3? They may just start having an internal mob vote and thus only show us the one that won inside Mojang. I don’t think some people see that problem coming.
Pretty much. The mob vote is a bonus, and without it I doubt Mojang would go through the trouble of an internal vote for an extra mob
I kinda feel like a lot of the votes go to more "animalistic" mobs. Obviously not all of them, but it seems like people are always wanting new animals or animal like creatures in the game. (The Allay being the the most of a stretch to call it an animal) but it could be considered a pet of sorts
If Mojang won't make it a priority to add the runner ups, then I'd like for them to lower the stakes of the vote. Instead of voting on mechanics like further reach and dog armour, we're simply voting on which mob we think is cute / atmospheric. This year's vote would look like this:
-Vote penguin because it's cute.
-Vote crab for Minecraft's first crustacean.
-Vote armadillo because the savanna needs more wildlife.
Then once the snapshots begin any mechanics added are just a bonus.
It's how many people decide on a mob now. For example I like the crab because it's cool.
I dont see why mojang doesn't just add the old mobs into mob votes. Like it's literally less work and is what people have wanted for years now.
NOO WAY AN ANTVENOM VIDEO!!
HOT TAKE, DO NOT FLAME ME.
you can disagree, but if youre unhappy with the updates then you should really listen to my opinion.
I think mojang should stop making so many updates in such fast succession.
The mob votes shouldn't be a thing purely because it makes the community beg for more updates.
We cant digest the new content even close to halfway let alone fully before a new update makes it irrelevant.
Also all of these mobs in the mob votes are completely pointless in my opinion, the sniffer was by far the worst mob ever voted for and the community simply cannot choose the best, most helpful or actually cool mob.
they shouldnt add too much content, People are begging for more, when what we really need is less.
the less updates means more comfort in what we have already, meaning we can appreciate The New Features when they are released.
TLDR: Mojang makes too many updates because the community wont shut up and appreciate what they have because we're all too greedy, Causing the game and future updates to lack quality.
Is 1 update per year considered too much for you, it would be reasonable if the update actually added meaningful content

The phantom wasn't even shown as a night creature, I remember them going to be a end mob for a while before they changed their minds.
Here’s an idea that would make things exponentially worse.
Replace the mob vote with a MOD vote
Imagine having to vote for mods being added to the base game. And then imagine being given an impossible choice between the:
Aether
The Create Mod
Cracker’s Witherstorm
Instead of banishing the other 2 mobs to the shadow realm, just have the one that wins to be the first to be developed and added then add the other 2 later.
I think whenever they do a mob vote, they should bring the 2nd runner into the next vote... it'd be better if they could just go "surprise, we're adding all 3", but we know they probably won't.
Mojang had the opportunity to make glow squids ACTUALLY glow by changing the light engine, even if degraded performance, they could've made it an option disabled by default
It's basicly pointless because of client side mods
Best case scenario is Mojang stops being so god damn artificial with these and stops binding mechanics big or small to a singular mob. It's causing unnecessary amounts of good mechanics to go to waste.
Being given a voice means nothing if using it results in, at the end of the day, restricted creative freedom. Where do I win there?
us loosing our voice is kinda a moot point imo. the modding community for minecraft as been begging Mojang for an API for over a decade and it has never been implemented.
