Kristen nice fish. I have one of those Gomexus reels and now am worried. I do take it in the shower with me after each time fishing so am hoping it will last. Will definitely try lighter braid as the time getting down to the bottom with 30lb braid seemed long for me. lighter line will get down there quicker and have better sensitivity . Thanks for the tips!
Thanks Joe! Yea I rinse it most of the time but after I caught a 15 lb Amberjack in NC on it to be honest the drag was never the same. I’m pretty sure it needs some grease and a new bearing but for as much and hard as I fish I’m not surprised. I definitely got my money’s worth out of it. For a rig setup though 30 is as light as I go. For jigs I like 15-20lb but I have used as much as 30. It really depends on the structure you are fishing. Good luck my friend!
Haha thanks big sis! And ooohhh see I didn’t get a chance to get out on the big knot head sea bass this fall. Sounds like you have a nice full freezer after that trip 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾.
Looks like a great trip! Went toggling yesterday out of Rhode Island and last week, last few trips, nothing big, tons of short life, but the boat always limits out. I love jigging I go with the Nexus 7 foot MH rod with 20 pound braid and 40 pound flouro
It was indeed! You know sometimes I prefer the trips with lots of short life and action. It tends to keep me engaged a bit more. And nice yea I was using 40lb flouro leader too. I just like the sensitivity better on 15-20lb braid vs 30 lb
May I ask what reel " seized up" on you? Great content, I fish old school for blackfish, Newell 229, Custom rod I had built in 1985. I also carry a Penn Squidder 140 with a P16XN Tiburon Frame, with a Power Handle, Reel is bullet Proof.
It was my affordable entry level lever drag GoMexus LX50 reel. As much as I fish I got some good use out of it. I’m sure some bearings and gears need love but not exactly worth fixing lol. And very nice on keeping a custom rod for longer than I’ve been alive 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 I definitely aspire to handle my gear with that kind of care however I feel like they don’t make things to last anymore. I’ve gone through some rods and reels already in 3 years smh 🤦🏾♀️. Thanks for watching 😊
Great video and awesome angling. I use a Stradic 4000 and a St. Croix 7’ Avid Inshore M and use Ocean Devil Silk casting line PE 1.5 which is super then but incredibly strong which enables me to use jigs from 1/2-1 1/2oz. I absolutely love this combo. For my conventional outfit I use my Saltiga 15 paired with my old G. Loomis Bucara 7’2” which they discontinued but I just happened to score another brand new one and for line I use Berkley X-9 30lb. with a 15ft top-shot of 50lb flouro attached with an FG knot
Thanks! Yea this Bull Bay rod is only rated up to 1.5 oz so paired with the 15lb braid and I was running 40 lb Flouro I was able to feel that finicky bite when the fish just picked it up in some rough current. I hear food those old G Loomis rods are awesome! Thanks for watching 🙏🏾
Thank you ☺️ And lol nope I still have about 6 more trips before I call it quits 😝But if I don’t catch anything bigger than 5 lbs the rest of the season this trip would be enough for sure lol
Holy cow! You are lucky to be able to do all these trips!!👍🏻👍🏻Checked out some of your other videos and they are good also. I hope I can get a trip or 2 in before packing the gear up also. Was a very good year in NJ, NY and Delaware. Saw your one squid video/trip on the On Point charter out of Squan. That looked like a decent different type of trip. Me and my friends fished the very first trip and a bunch of other trips on that boat with Mike K the owner when he 1st got it. We fished with Mike since he was around 12 years old when he learned how to fish on the Nan Sea J charter boat out of Belmar. Mikes captain Alex can put his charters on some good fishing trips.
@@bjkgaffmaster indeed I’m definitely blessed 😇 Thanks for checking out my other videos and awww that’s dope that you know the owner. I really have fun with Capt Alex on On Point. Tight lines on your last couple trips of the year 🎣
If I make it out on a tog trip I have a bunch of jigs and a couple of rods and reels with light braid. I don't know if the fish are too deep by the time NJ raises the limit to make it worth the price of the trip, but I've been watching those guys from NY catch tog like that with great success. So far I've only used a simple rig with a sinker big enough to hold bottom.
Yessss the light tackle setups are fun and efficient in the right conditions. I’ve watched Halkius from Jigging jerks fish 3/4 oz all day and I’m like how? Haha if you get used to it and the conditions are right it’s amazing.
@@PhillyGirlFishing I usually fish from the party boats from Point Pleasant to Belmar. Everybody's using 8-10oz sinkers and Hi-Lo rigs, so I figured easier to go with the flow and hopefully avoid re-creating a Three Stooges routine with everyone in my vicinity. More often than not, the current makes it seem like it'd be impossible to get down there with a jig. But I see him and Skinner do it all the time. Also those guys are only about 2 hours north of where I fish, but it seems like a whole different universe. Tog, seabass & fluke are so much bigger and more plentiful. We get their leftovers down here 😂
@@davidbulanowski1091 I get lol if it ain’t broke don’t fix it right? That’s why I fish the 15 lb braid if the current is crazy I don’t need heavy jigs to stay up and down. I also feel what’s going on with the line a lot better. And agreed that Long Island current is completely different than NJ. I actually really struggled fishing the heavy current there.
@@davidbulanowski1091 I will say this though. Everybody has their own way of fishing. I need to fish lightweight gear bc if injuries so I like matching the line to the gear 15-20lb braid but that may not be for everyone. But you never know if you don’t try 😊
@@PhillyGirlFishing I'm ready to try. I'm hoping when it gets cold enough to weed out all but the hard core, crazy fisherfolks, I'll have enough space on the boat to drop a jig on 15lb line without spending the day dealing with tangles. I really appreciate the lighter tackle too. I went striper fishing Thursday and started using a lighter rig with 20lb line and had 2 fish break off. Switched to my heavier rig with 30 & still feeling it a little this morning.
Can we go fishing? I live in Delaware and I Bass fish almost everyday but just picked up togging! My new favorite thing to do! I would love to learn from You about tog and about starting a youtube channel I'm good people and I see we go out of some of the same places
End of the season slaying!

Always! Those guys are a riot and put us on the fish 🎣
Awesome video! At some point I was like "the jacket the jacket it's going to block the catch 😂".
You and me both! But I was happy every time I was facing forward it was out of the way 🤣🤣🤣
One of the best boats and captians in OC. I have to book now for next year lol
Yes they are! Love fishing with those guys🙌🏾
Serious stuff! You betta fish lady lol. I spent my Saturday with big Black Bass. Late Fall wonderful deep sea fishing.
