Years ago we had someone sneaking into my back pasture through my gate on the end of a side road. They would cut the lock and just drive in at night. So, I took a few sections of spike tooth harrows turned them spike up and hid them under some old hay about 30 feet inside the gate. I was surprised one night by a visit from the sheriff's office about 2 am when they came to tell me a truck was in my pasture with 4 flat tires and the driver wanted me arrested. But he was the one arrested for criminal trespass and ordered to pay us $1500 dollars for damages to the soft ground.
I like ur style i had similar ideas u just have to mind to lift them before using the field again as i know a farmer who forgot they were there and drove over the harrows with the front wheels of the tractor . .
Maybe not necessary in the US, or maybe more necessary now with how quick some are to try and sue, but would a sign 'caution, high chance of punctures beyond this point' clear you of responsibility if they drive beyond and get 4 flats? :)
The trouble is if they injure themselves because of spikes , Richard will get done for it , sad fact but that’s the reality , us farmers have little to no recourse against it .
Getting soil contamination in your silage has potential animal health issues for next year as well, it’s so much more than just the trespass and disrespect.
My heart goes out to you. I know this frustration well. Different job similar situation. I am grounds keeper for my church and a youth mission. Several time every year people come hooning through and tear up the lawn that I put a great deal of time and effort into keeping to the best of my abilities. It really burns me up having to put a lot of time and money into fixing the damage they do.
Sorry to hear this is happening on your farm, Richard. It happens locally to me here in Ireland. My neighbour put an old muck spreader to block the gate on his land. Worked a treat. Concrete blocks as some others have suggested could work too.
So sorry to see this. I think its time as communities we need to be doing more to help local farmers and rural businesses. The police are useless In these cases.
Richard my heart goes out to you,all off us that watches your videos no how hard you and your family works to make a living ,if only they could b caught & made to repair the damage the cause, these people only laughs at us hard working farmers.
we have a farm in west texas that no longer has anyone living on the property, a couple of times a year it gets raided by vandals/thieves and we get metal and household items stolen from it. last year they opened up the battery case of the tractor and smashed all the batteries. took us quite a bit of repair before we could get to the planned work the weekend we met out there. very frustrating that people don't recognize the difference between a little fun and destructive actions that greatly hamper others.
Get a big board (width of the gate) and pound nails through it so the pointed part of the nails stick out 2 or more inches. Then paint them to match the area of the ground on the inside of the gate where you will put it. Lastly, hang a sign on the gates saying something like "Do not enter- personal and vehicle damage may occur" If they bust through the gates again, and they will have a bunch of flat tires for their trouble!
We used what were called tank stoppers, simple enough to make and fit, just remove with a front loader when you want to get in, which you have plenty off, normally need one a gate, they work and at a ton each cant be moved easily as an incident with a beet trailer proved one year, the trailer needed work the stopper not lol
Leave the entrance the way u have it & go for a few big steel barriers, like ya see at the entrance to a forest & don't leave any room for a vehicle to pull in. Keep the barriers as close to the edge of the road as u can & in line with the hedge. The way u have it now, is just asking for trouble. You have a nice little hidden spot for them to pull in & 3 flimsy aluminium gates, all hidden by big hedges.
Richard put some bales of silage at the back of the gates they might use along the roads so they cant open the gate in are drive around them .atleast the bales can be moved easily
When I was growing up in the early '80's in Illinois (US) some of the local boys did this in a farmer's field and the farmer had their jeep towed from their home to a boat launch. Nobody made any attempt to apply the parking brake at any time.
We’ve always had poachers on the farm and they usually leave without a fuss when asked, but driving across fields in 4x4s is a recent development. These poachers and hare coursers are too lazy to get out and walk. We’ve had to block all the roadside entrances with old telegraph poles. It keeps the buggers out, but it’s a pest when we want access ourselves.
You aren't the only one who's had trespassers lately. During harvest 1 1/2 months ago we had an unwelcome visitor who came onto our farm and decided to visit the rubbish tip with their big 4wd. Fortunately nothing was taken and no crops destroyed because we were all the way on the other side. Would've gotten away with it had their vehicle's tyres not been wider than ours and shut the gate after them... I totally know how you feel, and I hope that you and all the other farms in your area that have been affected get justice against these trespassers here's hoping at least
I'm sure alot of farmers wouldn't mind people catching 1 or 2 hares if they walked on the field and asked them first not just drive around and do damage gives everyone a bad name
It is rife around here at the moment along with flytipping everywhere but no one seems to be caught for it , we gave chase across a stubble field years ago , they tried to ram us head on with their landcruiser ! next night our straw stack had been set light to so be carefull with how you deal with them !
Bury spikes on a hinge under the gate. Do not lock the gate simple latch and a sign. You should get at least two tyres maybe four? You can lay the spikes flat you need to access the field.
I have said before, you need to block the gates with big logs or big things the can't move. If you don't it will keep happening, guranteed, things that only your tractor and loader can move. OR ditches
I could never understand 4x4 trespassing. And it's down right annoying. As an overland traveller myself, I've taken my vehicle from one side of this planet to the other and I have only found this 4x4 trespassing phenomenon in the UK. I traversed the northern Russian logging roads (with papers, permits and permission) with an old fashioned all terrain tyre with little drama. I can tell from those tracks, it's either a Simex tyre or probably a retread version fitted onto a short wheelbase Defender. A totally unnecessary tyre that does nothing but damage. I hope you catch them and they can be persecuted!
Night vision goggles, brake light bulbs removed from our vehicles, shotguns loaded with rock salt for the human targets and BB pellets for the dogs. Job done, they never came back.
I posted on your trash dumping video about how we have had to make HD gates out of well drilling pipe and set the posts in concrete. We have since had a few determined criminals cut HD locks and damage the fields. So the local concrete company makes blocks out of the excess concrete they get back from jobs. These blocks usually weight around 3000 lbs. I made larger forms and these blocks weight over 9500 lbs. and are ten foot long. We set them in front of the gates with our end loader when we are done with the field for the fall. We made a special lift attachment so the blocks are not easy to move with a regular chain. So far no one had successfully moved one. The biggest trouble here is since the pandemic, the courts will do nothing to punish the offenders even if they are caught. The prosecutors say it is not a "serious" crime so they do not push for any punishment. Makes a land owner think back to times gone by when the three SSSs where in effect. Shoot, Shovel, shut up.
In Ireland we deal with invaders like that (our country cousins as we call them here) by putting concrete weights outside the gates. Ones you can lift with a fork on a teleporter.
Easy for me to say but you need to block the entrance and/or make the entrance so that they pick up punctures when they enter using scaffolding, boards and nails buried in the grounds. I don’t think it would be hugely expensive but would give you some satisfaction!
Hi Richard it's not nice when this happens. I used to work for the parks and gardens in Liverpool. This happens on a daily basis, not only in the parks but on the golf courses completely destroying greens and fairways. It's demoralising seeing this and having to repair the damage these mindless people do. Hopefully this is a one off . Keep the videos coming.
You would need to be careful with these people, if you put down spikes r something to damage there 4x4s , it’s then they would come after your property, that’s far to risky, it has happened, near us, when they cut the plastic wrap from dozens of silage bales, n cut the tyres on a 4 wd tractor.. I suggested this to you Richard before, ( when your fly tippers visited) get yourself an ibc cube, cut a hole in the top ,fill it wit sand r soil, & place it directly at the back of the gate, , they won’t shift it, you can lift it wit your tractor loader…
Get some of those spikes that deter pigeons and put them just i side the entrances. How about re doing entrances so you have no roadside access to fields. Nightime local farmer patrols.
Lay a strip of nails that are bowned together over the opening of your gate so when they drive over they get flats. Can't drive on flat tiers and they will start to realize it's costing them money to replace their tiers!
There is a list of things that can be done. Wonder if they will continue to chance it driving round what really is someone's livelihood. 🤔. How many people on here can even tell that distinct tread patterns betting its not just me. The grass was looking really well in the background. Stay safe sir 🏴
we hat trespassers a fiew years ago, my dad got a call from a neighbour nearby the field, me and my dad went over to the field, parked our 926 infront the exit, and went back home to bed, next morning we go back to the field with trespassers, and they were not happy they being there for 5a6 hours :D and got fined by the polcie for trespassing :)
right this is one thing that gets my goat i do pest control as my hobby and take it very seriously BUT getting permission to shot on farm land is very hard but what the farmer doesn't take into consideration is one its a free service to them as a thank you and i not only control the pest's but also keep an eye on the stock ie contacting the farmer with problems with his/her stock but also fencing down / gates left open or broke and i have been known to have had to pull a lamb or two out of ditches but the biggest benefit to the farmer is feet on the ground ie i had a farm that had problems like your and had items stolen from the farm but as soon as i started to shot the farm and the land it all stopped happen. So to all farmers if someone asks to shot your land and you think or know you can trust them as all shooters are not the same and there's good and bad in all then just think about it as there doing you a good turn as much as you to them.
Same issues here in the States. Always driving in the fields and destroying things. Our locked storage machine shed has been broken into 3 times the past year. First time they only took the electric winch from the implement trailer. Just last week they hit again, this time they stole one of my collector automobiles and heavily damaged another getting it out of the door. They seem to know when no one is home and just help them selves to anything they want. All the police ever seem to be able to do is take the report.
Lots of farmers in my area dig huge ditches round their fields and utilise fallen trees to block entrances and some use portable bridges for want of a better description to bridge the gap between the road and thief land and once their work in the field is done the remove them again leaving the deep ditch. It seems to be quite effective but of corse there’s a lot of work to do if you wanted to use similar methods. Alternatively, an APM could be deployed. Anti pikey missile 😂 Don’t get me wrong, travellers aren’t all bad, but acts like this doesn’t help their case much. We all know how strong their family values are, it’s just a real shame they can’t extend those values to the wider community they live in. Best of luck with your efforts!

These methods worked around our area. Too much hassle for the gypo's to try and get in.
@@derekbyers5284 yes. Unfortunately sometimes making it harder for them comes at the cost of making it harder for you when they do that. They’re often not too bothered about ramming stuff out of the way, especially gates!

I think the best option Mr Funky farmer is to leave a few cans 🤣of that nice fish you were eaten for xmas beside the gate. When they come to break up next time they will see the free fish and hopefully that will be the end of that 😂
As a teen me and my friends used to go onto farmers land and jump off the giant hay stacks and not cause any criminal damage. We never got caught by the farmer and if we did we wouldn't have returned again
Set up sim trackers attached to spikes when they drive over them they will attach themselves to the tyres and you can then track the vehicles. Give the details to the cops and they can follow them and pick them up alternatively a big sign saying”Danger, buried spikes in field. Enter at your own risk “
ive not heared it from farmer in the netherlands, i assume it happens here too. but as many have said, still go to the cops and report, specially that they have broken your lock on your gate.
Sounds like a real pain in the a**, part of the trouble is that you don’t know exactly when they’re going to come back, what time and which field. Just because they don’t have any land of they’re own they do this.Absolutely disgusting wasting peoples time as well
As a driver of an emergency service rescue vehicle I have on a number of occasions had to drive onto farm fields to conduct searches for lost or missing people. Whenever I have had to do this I have always driven at a slow and steady pace around the boundaries of the fields, venturing out into the centre areas only when absolutely necessary (and remember here that I am attempting to save a human life or lives). Whilst farmers may not always have been happy with Our intrusion, they have had to learn that the law is on Our side.
We use Big concrete blocks and old Big dump truck tires to block our gateways, so annoying we have to do that but people have no understanding of respect or where there food comes from!
Spike strips or some barb coils loose on floor makes them think twice and barb wire wraps around everything underneath. The barb may even collect some dna
a man near me hated these guys and he left the barbed wire in the entrance to his field, in the morning he found his gat open and an old Mitsubishi jeep was found crashed with 3 flat tyres, plates and disks were gone but he was happy that he messed up their night
Feel sorry for farmers in the UK, there constantly having reduced fields due to government buying it back to put houses on (one farm in my area has lost loads of fields), pitifully prices from supermarkets etc, weather in recent years. There's no respect these days.
Pike? Is that you, Pike? Ee, why would you do that? Hidden smoke bombs, smoke flares, red solar lights - the last worked well for us when we had a similar problem. Good luck.
Jeep tires make more of a mess than a tractor..... Not right cutting locks off there on for a reason.. Just another bump on the road, you only need to get the reg number for some heat.
sad to see this but its common in ireland too. I think from the comments you have a few ideas to flatten their expensive mud-terrain tyres. hassle to instal but worth it.... Make a vid about it when set up, end of the issue. upgrade your home security cameras too

We never got caught by the farmer and if we did we wouldn't have returned again
just a thought ,and its sounds drastic but could u not say put a trench in the gateway that could b covered when in use ..good luck
Set up sim trackers attached to spikes when they drive over them they will attach themselves to the tyres and you can then track the vehicles. Give the details to the cops and they can follow them and pick them up alternatively a big sign saying”Danger, buried spikes in field. Enter at your own risk “
Great channel 👍
A few well placed covered deep ditches will stop them in there tracks
ive not heared it from farmer in the netherlands, i assume it happens here too. but as many have said, still go to the cops and report, specially that they have broken your lock on your gate.
we had some last night and they scared the living daylights out of our cattle and some jumped the hedge and we havent found any of them
I know some local councils have gone half's with farmers on jersey barriers to go across gate ways to help stop them ? On a nice tree from farmer p
Flip some old harrows upside down at the gate paint them green
Can you not put concrete bollards up for winter
You can put a round bale behind the fence
Once they break the lock that's the law broken there's no comeback with the law once they do that, you need to report it
They’ve only cut your grass a bit shorter
Place spike strips inside the gate
Set of chain harrows , strategically placed inside gateways.😉
Trail cams can help catch reg plates
A sign that says spikes in this field would make them think hopefully.
Do you recon you can rescue the destroyed grass or not
A set of spike strips at the gate may help.
Hi mate them tracks are from a transit van
That's disgusting I feel for you with all the rain we've had recently. I suspect the cameras will be going out again.
a man near me hated these guys and he left the barbed wire in the entrance to his field, in the morning he found his gat open and an old Mitsubishi jeep was found crashed with 3 flat tyres, plates and disks were gone but he was happy that he messed up their night
Good luck.
Richard lay a spike strip at your gates just under the grass then you will know who it is when they come back to get there truck!!
Install a farm alarm put sensors on gate post that will alert you on your phone 📱
put heavey silage bales in the gateways
I have some spare portable cameras like trail cameras connect to phones if want help Richard I am local as well
Jeep tires make more of a mess than a tractor..... Not right cutting locks off there on for a reason.. Just another bump on the road, you only need to get the reg number for some heat.
Surely the plates aren't real. You don't think they pay road tax do you?
sad to see this but its common in ireland too. I think from the comments you have a few ideas to flatten their expensive mud-terrain tyres. hassle to instal but worth it.... Make a vid about it when set up, end of the issue. upgrade your home security cameras too
make mud at gates really deep so the get stuck that and hidden wildlife cams
I would be tempted to place a stinger just inside the gate where they Start to accelerate. !
