Kudos to the man running that hotel. It's good to finally hear of someone taking care of people during a disaster. You don't hear much of that anymore these days. So a big kudos to this hotel manager for taking such good care of these people. Awesome credit to him as well David. Thank you for your dedication to bringing us this video. Our prayers are with you and all of Texas effected by this.
Special thanks for hanging in there and your updates. I was worried about Reed and his crew, so glad to hear your update about them and they are safe. I can hear the violent 155mph winds - prayers for everyone's safety \o/
Thanks for this. My family & friends are in the greater Houston area so it's good to know from a reliable source what it's like for visitors. I'm glad that my brother & I, who both grew up there, are safe living in the beautiful PNW where all we have to fear is an earthquake: The Big One! No hurricanes though. Just rain from Oct-March, but who's complaining? Keeping Texans in my heart. Wishing all a safe, relatively dry week without the need for heroics.
Keep up the good work man. stay safe! I've been through some crazy Storms and Hurricanes and its sometimes scary even when you are prepared. Glad to hear Reeds team is safe.
We're in Brownsville Tx and ppl here prepared, but im so grateful we didnt get this storm. Amazing A KILLER MONSTER !!! So scary. You all be safe. God be with you.
You seem so calm, I seriously have no idea how I would react through the entirety of a hurricane! You have a great TV personality, stay safe in that job of yours!!
To David and the like of others pursuing this type of endeavor: This is very gallant and intrepid of you. Just as one would venture overseas to fight for the military. Woe betide you when the foreseen circumstances overwhelm you. When you're spiritually extricated from danger and despair, to whom do you give thanks to? Yes. In the end, it's all about HIM and very little of you. Blessings.
Major respect to the guy who went out in it to save his fellow chaser and also to the hotel owner. I'm in northeast Texas and have all of you in my thoughts.
Sorry to say this but it was real stupid for you to be outside. That wind could send a board right through you can slice you in half when you least expect it. Your lucky to be alive dude.
TRINITYADAMS69 ill be honest, i was in a trailer for until 3 PM and the thing was a Cat 3 and now its so much more powerful.... Good luck guys, Corpus Christi is here if you need it man :D
I live in Pearland,TX (Brazoria County) and am debating if I should head to Louisiana. My neighborhood typically does not flood but with what the news is predicting it has me slightly worried. Thoughts are with everyone..stay safe!
Thank you, KXAN, for covering Rockport. Too bad the hurricane shelter in Austin had no TV on which all of us from the Rockport area could see what was happening. By the next day and many days after, all the news was about the flooding in Houston and elsewhere. We got most of our news from people who went back the day after the storm to see their houses (if any were still there), and took photos and videos before returning to Austin. I don't know if any news reports showed all the dead cows lining the highway, some of which may have come all the way from the pasture land on the barrier island and maybe were dropped on highway 35 by tornadoes. I don't know where they originated but wasn't used to seeing a lot of those kinds of cattle near town. Much of the highway adjoins huge, unfenced cotton fields, not cattle ranches. In a fenced area along the highway, the fences were not broken but were choked with storm surge debris and the utility poles were mostly snapped off or leaning precariously. The dead cows did not come from unfenced cotton fields or escape through undamaged barbed wire fences. Most of the cows seemed to be big, sleek, fat, healthy (but dead) red Angus types, based on the photos.
I am from from Jamaica and in my living room watching your video. And also you guys are doing a very good job letting us know what is happening in Texas
I live in Alaska and when we get hurricane force winds over 100 mph there's a horrible, high pitched continuous scream--I'm not hearing that here, just the roaring that's also common here. Is that just the camera not picking it up?
yea i was in corpus yesterday on a fishing trip and saw the huge ass hurricane pretty scary shit right there was wondering why the entire town was empty
We learn at a young age in Florida that when a window lets the wind in, pressure increases and the wind across thee roof makes it act like an airplane wing lifting it. There goes the roof. When a window breaks, or a door opens, you have to open one on the other side to save the roof. Wind blowing thru the house in that case is bad, but better than really bad.
When you took a peacefull vacation to the coast of Texas... You have to evacuate as soon as you got to your destination... I JUST WANTED TO ENJOY TEXAS!
Not sure why they think that because that ceiling tile was on the floor, that this translates that there is a broken window SOMEWHERE in the building? You will notice that where that ceiling tile was down was literally right next to a exterior door. Meaning that when they open it, it will be very windy right there. Now if a window is broken then there will likely be ceiling tiles down in the immediate vicinity. But not somewhere across the entire building. Unless of course it's really powerful, in which case there would be way more than just the random tile on the floor.
That is so cool you are with Reed Timmers team at the same location! Totally didn't get excited when you mentioned him...nope. XD But in all seriousness please say safe dude.
Hope everybody is ok. It's 6:20 in Florida so 5:20 there. I'm not looking forward to daytime footage in a few hours. Hotel owner has insurance. He's good. You guys be safe!
I was in Hurricane Gustov before Ike hit doing contractor security work for Entergy. We were transporting into Ike while it was happening. INTENSE!! Damn do I want to experience that again.
We're in the Dallas Ft.Worth area it's just foggy here small amount of rain. Nothing serous here. But I worry about the amount of rain and flooding comming!!!
Oh man I bet you all were going CRAZY! It's understandable that they don't want doors being ripped off or someone being killed from flying debris. Very cool for them to give you a place of shelter.
While this makes me glad I left Texas a few years ago (I lived in Van, Texas, moved literally JUST before the Father's day tornadoes recently and where I used to live was damaged), my heart goes out to everyone there. Stay safe, stay in shelter, may whatever god you believe in protect and keep you. And if you don't believe in a god or gods, may you still be protected, safe from harm, and remain whole and well. Does anyone know if Van is being hit, even if by the edge?
Hurricanes, while having a huge destructive force and are a very bad thing for everyone involved sure are fascinating. On one hand i'm glad switzerlands geographical location does not allow for any hurricanes, on the other hand, i'm kinda sad as well. I love the atmosphere when a thunderstorm passes by, a hurricane would be even more intriguing
keybladesarah probably not. Hurricanes are gigantic though, and can throw off storms and tornadoes hundreds of miles away. So it's possible but probably not likely.
Don't know why anyone would hate on you... Guess that's the world right now... Anyways, Great job!!! Helping those see what it's like... And near as I can tell, you are lucky the place didn't fall on you... Peace
Jeska Doy opening a door is not compromising a structure. Doors themselves are weak points in any building along with Windows, vents, and anything that is not solid. Storm chasers are storm crews that go into the worst parts if storm to collect data on weather patterns and on the individual storms themselves
These "storm chasers" are being incredibly brave and throwing themselves into the middle of the worst storms so they can collect data that will hopefully help save lives in the future. They know what they are doing, they wouldn't go into the middle of a storm of their own will if they didn't have the training for it.
It will pop the windows on the opposite side of a small building. I broke two windows in my front room by opening my back door during Jeanne. Technically that could count. Guy doesn't seem like an actual storm chaser though, just a local news field anchor or something.
1. The guy in the video is obviously not a storm chaser, he's a fucking new reporter and the storm chasers we are talking about are the ones who opened the back door to go onto the balcony where the storm was hitting. 2. The reporter only opened a back door to a balcony in the hotel. The hurricane wasn't hitting that part of the building so it was safe to open. 3. There were two sets of doors to the outside (specifically designed in case of a hurricane) so if one was opened then the entire building wouldn't be flooded by water and wind.
Nine hours of slow moving category four storm is bad enough, how much damage will it cost if it sits there for two or more days. I guess the whole area will be stripped naked to the bones.
Kudos to the man running that hotel. It's good to finally hear of someone taking care of people during a disaster. You don't hear much of that anymore these days. rated for a cat5 and there are no storm shutters on the windows?
How does this week go from a total solar eclipse, to a total devastating hurricane in texas....

Tara N. When does Alaska get hurricanes?
Daily Scratcher He or she said hurricane force winds, not hurricanes.
It's not a hurricane anymore and the winds are slower that's why you hear nothing.
YES WE HEAR THE FEROCIOUS WINDS, YOU ALL BE SAFE AND WE WILL BE PRAYING FOR ALL OF YOU!!! GOD BLESS YOU ALL !!!
From Miami this event, that reminds me of my time going through hurricane Andrew & Wilma. May God be with you all.....

Who came here from his GQ video where he breaks down weather in movies
Thank u for sharing,, I have a lot of family near coast
the lights that are on are on battery power, they only come on when the power goes off. I am surprised the hotel doesn' have a backup generator.
God Bless you all
He's so cute. I wouldn't mind being trapped in the hurricane with him hahaha
I was in Hurricane Gustov before Ike hit doing contractor security work for Entergy. We were transporting into Ike while it was happening. INTENSE!! Damn do I want to experience that again.

excellent reporting.
Was that Reed in the yellow raincoat coming in after the gust of wind whipped the doors open?
God bless you and please stay safe its not worth it to get hurt to report
Oh man I bet you all were going CRAZY! It's understandable that they don't want doors being ripped off or someone being killed from flying debris. Very cool for them to give you a place of shelter.
Im un houston and im so scared plz help 😥

Juan Gonzalez Pray. Houston may only receive rainfall, without direct hit.. stay encouraged.
Try sticking your head under a blanket and stay there.
Houston sucks

My sister lives where the hurricane going to hit. I live 7 hours away from her but I just hope she's ok.
While this makes me glad I left Texas a few years ago (I lived in Van, Texas, moved literally JUST before the Father's day tornadoes recently and where I used to live was damaged), my heart goes out to everyone there. Does anyone know if Van is being hit, even if by the edge?
Kxan doesn't have any flashlights?
You're doing yeoman's work, Mr. Yeomans. Stay safe.
Of course Reed Timmer is there lol I never want to be where he is. If he's there it's going to be really bad
I wish I was there to enjoy it. The northeast has not seen a hurricane since Gloria in the 1980's
Hope y'all are alright now, best of luck
I heard half the hotel got blown away. Is this guy ok?????
Living through a hurricane sucks. Nothing fun about it. Life comes to a halt.
After ten years of smart phones, you'd think people should have learned that you can turn you phone to the side while recording...
Currently taking bets on whether Alex Jones calls Hurricane Harvey a false flag operation
Hurricanes, while having a huge destructive force and are a very bad thing for everyone involved sure are fascinating. On one hand i'm glad switzerlands geographical location does not allow for any hurricanes, on the other hand, i'm kinda sad as well. It sounds like you're flying a helicopter through a waterfall. Damn. Stay safe.
How are you in a Cat5 shelter if tiles are falling and windows are blowing out? Stay safe!
HappyQuails because those idiots kept opening doors. 🤦🏽♂️
Keep safe people. Look after each other. That looks so dangerous..
I hope that all the people stuck in the hurricane are ok, and also Canada getting hit a little so far we only got medium speed winds
keybladesarah probably not. Hurricanes are gigantic though, and can throw off storms and tornadoes hundreds of miles away. So it's possible but probably not likely.
What the hell it's sunny here in for Corpus Christi when did you get that footage ???
my brother lives there and he said the storms going right toardse him but slow hope him the best

GOD BE WITH ALL OF YOU!!!
The last Category 4 hurricane to hit Texas prior to Harvey was Carla in 1961
I'm in Beaumont. Anybody got a news report for me?
Don't know why anyone would hate on you... Guess that's the world right now... Anyways, Great job!!! Helping those see what it's like... And near as I can tell, you are lucky the place didn't fall on you... Peace
Yes we hear the roar....need to get out cause the storm is going to dump so much rain....you will be on the upper floors
Thanks so much
Who the hell are these "storm chasers"? Opening doors or windows compromise the structure. How come these "storm chasers" don't know that? 🤷🏽♂️
Jeska Doy opening a door is not compromising a structure. Doors themselves are weak points in any building along with Windows, vents, and anything that is not solid. "compromise the structure"? Somebody compromised your brain obviously.

You need to let us know if you guys survive
praying for Texas from Chicago Illnois.
Man with the walls separating I'd head to the other building. Plus, anytime somebody says "God told me this was my Ark", it's time to go.

anyone know if houston will be in huge danger from harvey?
jellyfish mvs yes. Catostrophic flooding is supposed to hit Houston today
We are getting affected all the way out in north texas
This guy is amazing. Must have a 180 IQ! He has 4 or 5 things to deal with simultaneously and it's like no problem for him.
Nine hours of slow moving category four storm is bad enough, how much damage will it cost if it sits there for two or more days. I guess the whole area will be stripped naked to the bones.
